    Update update!! It’s interesting to learn that registering your dog is so common! Some of you mentioned that we (I say *we* because I moved to Japan from there) do this in San Diego, California.
    Now that I read many comments about registering your pets, I do recall mailing some papers in after we adopted him, but we did not go to an official town hall or anything, and never heard back or got tags like I did here!
    We got our dog less than a year before moving to Japan, and I must have forgotten about mailing papers in amongst the chaos of actually moving him + all his paperwork that goes with getting him here (it’s a HUGE process)!
    As always, Thank you guys so so so much for sharing about your countries, cities, states. I find it all incredibly interesting seeing how similar (or different) things are done! Thank you for always keeping the comment section positive and informative to share with everyone about your culture and experiences!

    The melon bread looks just like Mexican Conchas pan dulce! Conchas, the crunchy sugar makes it looks like a sea shell. It's a pastry bread we mostly eat for breakfast.

    In Australia we have to pay registration fees to our city council for each dog. This funds things like dog parks and dog poo bag dispensers. I wonder if it’s the same thing?

    • @heratlas
      @heratlas  3 роки тому +9

      I wish!!!! we don't have a dog park or any public trash cans for pet poop. The paper that was given to us actually comes with instructions to always take it home, and rules we must follow/ I think it makes a lot of sense for the fees to fund a dog park - what a great idea! (Now I'm curious what these fees I just paid go to? just out of curiosity!)

When we were stuck in Osaka for 9 months in 2020 cause of COVID travel restrictions, we would go to a Melon de Melon. Always made him happy. Since getting back to work and life in Shenzhen, he has learned to make melon pan....not an easy task! Thanks for sharing.

    I live in Alberta, Canada - we also have to register our doggo with the city! I believe there’s a few reasons why they do this - I think there’s a bylaw on how many animals you can have and so they can find the owner if they get lost. We have him microchipped, and he has a collar. He has a tag with just his name and a tag for his registration number and the name of the city

    I live in the Kansas City metro and we had to register our dog when we first got her, yes. They were pretty lax about updating the license after the first year, and left it up to our vet to be sure we were vaccinating her, which we were. Kind of interesting, because where I lived previously in the US, this wasn’t done, but it had been quite a few years since I had a pet. (Basically, back in the 90’s.)

    That melonpan looks A LOT like a concha!!! Conchas are a very popular kind of mexican pastry (we know it as "pan dulce") and they look just that japanese sweet bread you ate! On other theme, I finished a couple of weeks ago a book called "Convenience Store Woman" (Konbini ningen) by Sayaka Murata and at first I didn't understand what a konbini was nor why they sell like all kind of weird things in a regular tiny convenience store. Then I watched your videos of the 7 eleven in Japan and I finally understood all! I really recommend it, its a pretty good book and I love that the protagonist is an out of the ordinary person. Love your content Caitlin, xoxo from Mx!

    I’m in the Yukon in Canada and we have to register our pets if you live within city limits of Whitehorse - but you pay less of a fee to register your pet if they are microchipped. I think it’s something like 50$ annually without a microchip - or 25$ one time if they are microchipped. So you still have to register them, but you pay way less and honestly they don’t enforce it as much if they are microchipped. It’s still a bit lax here 😜

    It's common to register your pets with the county where you live. You get a license for your pet you pay yearly, it helps your county and state keep track of the number of dogs in it. So you can license your dog through your county and then also get them microchipped!

My dog is also chipped. And we have to have rabies tags. So maybe not that weird that you had to go register? This is Indiana USA.
    Edit to add that the city pet tag doesn’t really help them find you or anything though in my experience they call whatever number is on the dog tag first and then check chips second.

    In Germany, we have to register our dogs with the city and pay a yearly fee („Marke“), I suspect to offset costs for cleanup (a lot of dog owners here are extremely inconsiderate and let their dogs do their business right on the walkways). With cats, you don’t have to register them with the city, but they are either chipped or tattooed and registered to you and your home address. If you find a lost animal in Germany, you usually bring it to the pound or a vet right away because they are able to match the chip/tattoo with an owner and return the animal this way.

It means he's got all the vaccines he needs. We also have a new one for every year and he gets it when we go to his yearly check-up at the doctor but we don't pay for it seperrately, we got it with the vaccine for which we pay.

Same reason pretty much just incase she were to run away they can return her to us and she also has a micro chip which also has our address and has her shot/immunization info . We do this once a year and it costs I think $80 Canadian. If your dog were to go missing and is not licensed you can be fined ( not sure the amount)
