i think it’s so cool that you get to walk through the castle without your shoes on. i know you don’t wear shoes inside a lot of places in japan but it looks like you’d feel extra connected to the building, actually feeling it beneath your feet and knowing so many others in the past had that same experience
I've been to Japan two years ago. I'm absolutely in love with the culture, it's people, the food, the landscape - just about everything. And I can't wait to go back and bring along my boyfriend to this wondrous land!
The vibes in this video were IMMACULATE! I think the rain made it a thousand times better! I actually teared up a little bit watching this as it reminded me of my visit to Himeji Castle about 4 years ago now. Missing Japan so much!
that part where you were walking down the same steps as samurais once did, made me feel teary eyed because it was so pure and i could feel myself walking down Amazing Videography, looking forward t more❤️
I am a Japanese national. What really gets me about foreigners taking too much time taking photos and videos for social media before actually eating dishes such as udon, soba, and sushi etc. They are at the optimal condition when they are served and should be eaten right away, not after 5 minutes of photo-taking or blathering about the food. This is an affront to chefs, too. My advice to you and other foreigners who are so keen on spending time on documenting their food, just eat when your food is served.
I so appreciate you choosing to share your adventures with the internet. I don’t think I’ll ever get to go to Japan and I love getting to see your view of your surroundings.
Wow... this video was amazing and so peaceful. Between the rain, colored leaves, and architecture everything was stunning. Thank you for sharing this and everything on your channel!
Beautiful video and very well produced! You gave a very good impression of the feeling when you visit Himeji castle. It’s by far my favourite castle in Japan when I visited exactly 3 years ago! I even miss carrying my shoes around in a plastic bag.
This vlog is amazing ! Each time I watch one of your videos about Japan I want to live there forever, in the countryside and the stillness. Amazing work on this video, it is of such a great quality
We went to Himeji Castle one year during a rain storm too... it was very empty thank goodness and we didn’t have to wait in any long lines in the rain. We missed the gardens though because we were just too wet from walking around the castle. Looks like I will have to go back and visit the garden, I love those stepping stones in water! Have you been to Matsumoto Castle? It’s my favorite. It could totally have to do with it was snowing the first time we went and snow in Japan is magical....
Thanks for sharing some of Japan’s beauty and treasures with us. I do love how they blend their lives with the beauty of nature in perfect balance - so calming and serene.
Himeji-jo was my favorite castle that I've visited in Japan & I loved the ability to be able to go through the castle & see the architecture, design & views. It made me think of how it must have been back in the days of the Shogun. During my last visit, I used Himeji as my base in western Japan & did many days trips as far south as Kagoshima in Kyushu using the Shinkansen with my Japan Rail Pass, leaving early in the morning & returning later in the evening. Appreciate your recommendations in Himeji, I'll have to visit Mt Shosha on my next visit & try Koba & More for their ramen.
Awesome video!! I live in Ontario, Canada and we’ve been in lockdown since before Christmas, so this was so nice to watch and escape(in my mind!) for a little while. I also loved how you made it really feel like we were on a guided tour with you by isolating your voice-over audio to the left.(I was listening with ear buds and noticed this.) Anyway, I love your videos- keep up the great work!!
I went there last month absolutely amazing, best thing l did was hire a guide, did not get to do the gardens because of time we did mt. Shosha cable ride.
Please go visit! And if you do, promise me you get ramen from Koba&More please tell him I say hi! He probably doesn’t know this video is love yet. GET THE MILK RAMEN!!
Caitlin, thank you so much for you sharing with us. This was such a stunning vlog. I have to let you know how much you've inspired me to want to go to Japan. I have always been intrigued by their culture but you are making me fall in love with it. I even started to learn Japanese on Duolingo.
Caitlyn is one of the very few RESPONSIBLE VLOGGERS / CONTENT CREATORS who responsibly and sensibly decides on staying on her hometown to explore (with all the safety precautions of course) & do not make irrational decisions to travel farther than her home city just to create content. 👏👏👏
We are huge fans and living in Himeji. We're actually working closely with Himeji Tourism bureau too And my partner knows the owner of Bakery Lamp. If you ever come back. We'd love to show you around the Castle and Kokoen are really amazing in Spring. 😀
I have been to the castle twice now, the second time was during Sakura season and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. It was breathtaking. I would highly recommend going back and visiting when the cherry blossoms are at their peak, go first thing in the morning though otherwise it gets too busy. I'm so glad they have added handrails in the stairways now the first time I visited they didn't have those and it made it interesting going up the steep stairs in the castle. 😀
Now I can’t stop looking at your bangs knowing how much work they are ... ;-) ! Thanks for the trip pre Super Bowl! and this is my first stop after I get back ! I was castle’d out last time but .... will appreciate the serenity more next time!
Just wanted to thank you for this beautiful adventure.. ❤ As someone who loves to travel, and cannot due to the pandemic... I love these blogs as we explore new areas and possible future destinations.
Thank you so much for filming your trips!! I’m an art history major and I just recently studied a bit on Japan. I am so fascinated by the history and culture, so I’m thankful you’ve provided a much more intimate view of everything. We read the book The History of Art in Japan by Nobuo Tsuji. I recommend it to anyone that is interested in a summary of everything!
I've been waiting for this one!! 🏯 Been wanting to know how you liked Himeji! My son lived in Himeji for 2 yrs ( now lives in Osaka ) Our visit to Himeji & the castle was one of our trip highlights!
Yes!!! Thanks for uploading haha. It's actually my birthday today so I was hoping for you to upload haha. One of the best birthday presents😊 I will watch it later bc I'm currently celebrating with my family! I will also be making sushi today as my birthday dinner, i will upload a picture to my instagram story if you would like to see! Thanks for being a amazing youtuber 😊❤️
I loved this and have now added it to my list of places to see in Japan! Does anyone else watch with closed captions on and noticed that the voice over she usually does, did not have sound but there were subtitles for what seemed like her voice over?
I visited Himeji castle in 2017 and it was quite impressive. Unfortunately we were on a really tight schedule so we didn't spend enough time to explore as much as we wanted. COVID while terrible really shows how peaceful things can be. The day I visited Himeji it was getting packed enough that they had to slow down the amount of people let inside of the castle to avoid overcrowding.
We went to Himeji castle last time because it’s twined with the castle near our town ( Conwy Castle) we didn’t get chance to go to mount shosha but it looked really peaceful shame about the weather 👍🏴
We had to take this off our itinerary when I went in 2019 because it got too hectic (we had our 9 month old baby too) but this makes me regret that decision. You captured some great clips!
The reality of visiting these sites is much different than the videos. IRL it’s more crowded than Disneyland. I just got out of visiting the castle and temple today, and though the sites are beautiful, you have to wait in long longs and push through crowds of people for lines, tickets and generally just walking around.
hello her.atlas i was wondering when the video of you ceramic class would be up, i thought i heard you talking about making somekind of special video about it. and i would really love to see it. 😉
My husband and I actually live close to himeji! I have a question for you: We have been putting off traveling within Japan because we have a dog. Did you guys found a pet friendly hotel for Gus? How do you guys travel with dog? Any advice, ideas?
Oh! very sad! You could have viewed the magnificent and beautiful Himeji Castle if it were a sunny day. Japanese castle was built for protection from enemy samurai invasion. So there are many protective devices and traps in it. Himeji Castle is the best in Japan, I think.
i think it’s so cool that you get to walk through the castle without your shoes on. i know you don’t wear shoes inside a lot of places in japan but it looks like you’d feel extra connected to the building, actually feeling it beneath your feet and knowing so many others in the past had that same experience
That was so beautiful and relaxing to watch. Thanks for sharing your visit with us! I feel like the rain and mist made everything so atmospheric.

i love that you ended up exploring these places on a rainy day. the fog and sound of all the birds mixed with the rain is so beautiful
I always feel relaxed whenever I watch your video's. Especially the way you edit, film, your voice aaand the music choice.
Keep up the good work!
I went to Himeji castle the first time I went to Japan in 2015. I have such fond memories of it. Thank you so much for this video Caitlin ♡
The place looked so beautiful in the rain. It really added the ancient feel to it.
This brought back serious memories from when I was there. Thank you for letting me escape for a little. ❤️
Gosh even in the rain the castle looks heavenly. Beautiful.

Great video!! The area looks absolutely stunning!! I've put it on the list for sure. Thanks for the tip re ramen too!
I appreciate your style of filming and sharing the history behind it all, I love this experience you take us along with you!
Wow... this video was amazing and so peaceful. Between the rain, colored leaves, and architecture everything was stunning. Thank you for sharing this and everything on your channel!
So beautiful!!! So nice to have that area to yourself! Makes it more special and helps you connect to the history in my opinion 👏
We almost didn’t go because of the rain and I honestly can’t imagine it without it 🥺 🌧
I miss travelling...I miss Japan and we went to this same place in 2019 and it was absolutely beautiful 💜
Beautiful video and very well produced! You gave a very good impression of the feeling when you visit Himeji castle. It’s by far my favourite castle in Japan when I visited exactly 3 years ago! I even miss carrying my shoes around in a plastic bag.
this is where my family lives ♥️ i love himeji!!! so many memories from all my trips here, thank you for sharing!!!
I really enjoyed this! The shots from Kokoen Garden were so gorgeous! Thanks for taking us with you guys!
It feels soo good to watch this vlog whn being stuck at home
This vlog is amazing ! Each time I watch one of your videos about Japan I want to live there forever, in the countryside and the stillness. Amazing work on this video, it is of such a great quality
Excellent editing and music choices! I really loved this vlog -- maybe my favorite so far!! :D Thanks for all you do!

Okay but this is unacceptable, friend!!!!! I just know you would love it so much! Especially mount Shosha!
@@heratlas 😂😂 alright alright when the sakura come out I’m there
Please come to Himeji in spring . It’s also beautiful. You can see many cherry blossoms 🙂
Thanks for sharing some of Japan’s beauty and treasures with us. I do love how they blend their lives with the beauty of nature in perfect balance - so calming and serene.
I‘ve been there two years ago and loved it so much - this made me feel so nostalgic ahhh 🥺♥️
All the warm fuzzies inside seeing these sites! Hope to get to visit one day too 🤗

It's a beautiful and big castle. Went there last 2019
Himeji Castle was an amazing place to explore, it was well worth the trip from Osaka!
So pretty! At least the rain made for some good umbrella asmr 😌☔️

@@heratlas i was checking the comments and its funny that it has been months since you ate it but you still remember the ramen with that much love :D
So relaxing to watch, thanks for letting me tag along your adventure 🤗
The autumn colors were really striking! In spite of the rain, it looks as if you visited at a very beautiful time of the year.

completely agree! himeji castle is absolutely beautiful in sakura season!
Looks like I found where I’m going this weekend now that *mostly* everything has opened up! Can’t wait to see how the sakura transform the garden 🌸🌸🌸
EEK! Let me know how it is - I really want to make a special trip up there for Sakura
What a beautiful location!! I would love to visit Japan some day (just need to convince my husband 🙈).

Aw so may memories! We visited Himeji on our honeymoon, we also went to Nijo in Kyoto which was our favourite!

The nearly empty Mount Shosha was giving me strong Spirited Away vibes!
Keep making travel vlogs please!!! They are so fun to follow! :)

I definitely have to go to Himeji again. thanks for the nice video
Great video! Your arms got a workout that day - holding the camera and umbrella at the same time.

I can’t wait to make it here one day when it’s safe again!
I LOVED Himeji, like the bigger cities but on a smaller scale!! Owl Bar has BEST whisky selections...
Oops. LAMP Bar!!!
Darn!! I
Lamp Bar is in Nara....there was a great whisky bar, but now can’t remember the name, the owner was so nice explains stuff to us

@@heratlas thanks for replying! Yes friends or family are the best option 😉
Caitlin, when you say 2 hours by train from Osaka, is that a regular train or a Shinkansen?
