Walking you through the steps the proper way to successfully connect your generator. #militarylife #generatorepairing #generatorpower #generators #armystatus
Yooo! Thank you! I'm a 91B(mechanic). My 1st SGT assigned me to teach a class on generator, and I don't know anything about these! Thanks for this video, man! Now I know how to at least turn it on!
Voltage Reconnection Switch: In Single-phase 120V, 10kW of 120VAC power is provided between L3 and N. In Single-phase 120V/240V you have what they call split phase 240. So two terminals are hot and then you have neutral. The Voltage between the two hot terminals is 240V and between each hot terminal and neutral is 120V. In three-phase 208 "Y" there are three hot terminals with 208V between any 2 hot terminals and 120V from any hot terminal to the neutral terminal. You should also mention the Voltmeter and Ammeter switch. It allows you to measure voltage and current coming off of each leg of output depending on the position of the Voltage Reconnection Switch.
These units are great generators to buy surplus and use for your home or garage. I have the MEP 803 with the Onan diesel. Very quiet running as long as the doors are shut. Very good on fuel. I use an electric stove and oven as a load bank. Always load the diesel to prevent wet stacking.
Damn son. This is your mos and u don't know what L2 and L3 is for? U need those for 3 phase 208 like when running AC/Heat units or any type of main distribution. U even need L2 when you need single phase 240
That’s wild that you have a box built into the trailer. Way back when we had a sync box that we had to use to connect multiples gens together. A real pain in the ass.
glazed over a lot of important things like daily pre-run check, the function of the battle short, making sure you open the circuit interrupter before powering down, cold weather procedures etc... otherwise nice and simple video to get people going
I have a generator just like that, however when flip the crank switch to on, it will crank but when i move the starter switch from off to prime and run and then start, it won’t catch and stay on. What do you think is wrong with it?
What does it mean if none of the red diagnostic lights turn on when pressing the test button? How long does it need to crank if it's been sitting unused for years? Update: I got it running. Just needed to crank more to get the fuel through system. Those diagnostic lights work when it's running.
Most likely batteri3s, fuel usually and only a little while. it sounds dumb at first but as long as you let it run for awhile after it'll be fine. Depending on the model also. As long as you hear the fuel running through for a few seconds it's usually good to crank. Let me know if this works.
@@Stukie101thanks, It has fresh oil and coolant and i have 2 brand new batteries in it and the fuel pump sounds like it's pumping and the starter cranks like normal. I only cranked it for about 10 seconds at a time. Maybe I just need to crank it a little longer for the 1st time since it hasn't been used for a while?
My generator had no trouble lights, so I used my cell phone cam and photographed the inside left of the open control panel. There was a white multi wired plug that hung loosely inside the control panel compartment. I located the corresponding jack the was out of clear view and gently plugged the plug into the jack. Was quit happy when all trouble lights lit when pressing the test button. The fuel return line also had a small slit that leaked fuel on the engine and generator. Don't try to match up small wrapper return line, found matching orange gas line at a good hardware store. Gotta work it slightly, but works extremely well and less destructive than on rubber tube return line. Manuf. 7/08 on my MEP-803. GREAT UNIT !
Update: I was able to get it started and everything seems to be working like it should now. It just needed some extra cranking time from sitting around for several months.
hey bro so I got a 5kw and I'm not getting any power to the front panel. I got all new batteries; im going to try switch out the main cb first. any other ideas?
Ebay or ask your motor sergeant. I'm retired now so that's all i can help you out with as of now. If you have any civilian mechanics, try asking them because they may be Vets to who may help you.
Is the main rubber line pumping through the fuel pump and going through the return rubber line as well? Also was you able to crack the fuel the metal fuel lines as well?
As a 92A, I don’t know much about generators. Thank you for the video.
your'e absolutely welcome
I'm on radio duty on the night shift and the generator went out while I was the only one up, this video saved me
Your welcome
😂😂really?

That was my job in the Army 40 years ago.
Oh damn, congratulations
Does the generator need to be grounded with rods for a PMCS?
Yes
I’m looking at a 10 kw power plant. How do you synchronize the two generators? Which setting is best for a home?
480/277Y is good for home use if you have a transformer
Make sure to check oil and coolant before starting.
Oil at a min.

I live in Dallas, I have a 15kw fermont, runs fine but is not generating any power, can you recommend some one to fix it?
I don't know anyone, but if there is a base near you, maybe you can ask someone from the motorpool and lead you in the right direction.

I thought this was a solid video brother
My apologies that it wasn't.
I went to ait with this guy lol, small world

Hi I'm a retired Army 91d20 gen mechanic where is your 598e or your 2404
It was off to the side and Congratulations.
What compelled you to write this?
I was trained to have your 2404or 598e to Do It the right way or get giged
@dylan porras the soldier is a generator mechanic himself. We were in Korea when he wanted to do this quick video.
where is a good place for parts .... also can you show Matanane

Thank you
Oil service video with part numbers would be nice
I will try that with our next video. Thank you for the advice.
Can I run 230v and 240v motors at the same time
Oh man I don't know answer that one for you, sorry for not having the answer.
91D lead the way
Absolutely
I think it would behoove you to learn a little bit more about the subject prior to making an educational video.
You're absolutely right
Good video, man. My unsolicited advice, turn off comments for this video so you don't have to deal with the abuse.
Thank you and I appreciate it.
Great job
Thank you
L2 and L3 do the same thing as L1. There is no reason to pop the breakers when you turn these off.
Thank you for the information
He really said L2 and L3 don’t do much💀
Watch the belt.. they like to cut themselves in half. .. then the tank will also, usually, puncture... cables...etc
Lmaoooo appreciate and noted, thank you.
@@Stukie101 Ultra rare! I wouldn't worry about it happening! lol
We have 3 generators that cut off after 2 minutes or so can you contact me ?

Why do I look at all this and still think it's so fucking old, everything, even our current ideas. Idk how to explain it differently
Because it is.
I think i know less now, then i did before the video.
