Nice setup. I'm a believer that if a person only owns one bike it should be a 29er hard tail. You can put commuter tires, race it, tour, long distance stuff. Great bikes!
Glad to see you on the Epic HT. I love mine, best bike I've ever owned by far. I'd love to see you complete the Tour Divide with that setup so that my bike can vicariously live through yours ha. Good one man.
Thanks for sharing! I noticed the SID fork from a previous video and was hoping you would do a bike and gear episode. Your making me wish I would’ve kept my Epic. Thanks again!
Its just me but I much prefer a light XC bike over a gravel bike for most any gravel/dirt ride. Ive gone with an Intense Sniper that is a really fun bike. Mine's the 100mm travel version although many want the 120 model. Some get so hung up on drop bars all they will ride no matter the ride, is a gravel bike. Then they start turning their gravel bike into a mt bike bit by bit. A friend has an ultra light Specialized hard tail and loves the thing, a 19.5 lb bike.
One day you'll need to add up the miles from all of the amazing rides you have done. That crazy ride from the snowy North, yikes. I'd have stayed in that semi and never went back out in that snowstorm. Maybe do a video on the miles and recap the rides, what motivates you to take the epic rides you have, even how you have time to devote to them. Thanks, and be well.
@@TheLankyCyclist I’ve been running the 2.25’s a few different tires, all Maxxis though. I put on some 3’s for the winter, minions. But if anything I wouldn’t mind going a bit slimmer, maybe some continental race kings 2.1. Not sure. What are you riding in the snow?
Bike doesn't seem to have many attachment points for racks or cages for bike touring. Wonder what the max weight limit is on this bike. I've got a surly bridge club xl 27.5 bike and would like to ride the GDMBR before I leave this earth. Wonder what the best tire/wheel setup to use on this ride. Can't see spending $$$ on a carbon setup as I'm not interested in racing at 70yo.
Yes, there would no places to mount racks, it would have to be strictly a bike packing bag setup. I would recommend the widest tires you could fit on the surly, I was running 2.25 Maxxis Aspen, which is 55 mm. The wider the better.
Sweet rig. Sweet cat.
Sweet shorts.

That’s not a bad idea, a 29er can handle just about anything, and with road tires, it would still be fast. Great to hear from you.

The epic is such a fun ride, the SID shock is amazing. Catch you in the road.
Loving the surplus of content recently
Much more to come. Thanks for watching. What kind of videos would you like to see me make? Gear? Stealth Camping?
@@TravelingThru222 camping please! ideally how to start a fire rubbing two spokes together
@ you got it.

I think 100mm of travel is all you need really.
19.5 is super light. My Epic is weighing in at 23lbs.

I’ll keep these thoughts in mind, I’ll have to see what I can come up with.
hope your recovery is swift and in the rear view mirror post haste brother!
Hey thanks, just about there in the healing process.
Nice ride and really good choice on the rear cassette. Take care
Thanks for watching.
Glad this bike is still working out for you. Is 2.25 a good size for you? You ever think about going wider?

@@TravelingThru222 I put some 2.6s on my hardtail. Been happy with that decision.

Will we be seeing you again next June?
I’m not so sure I’ll be strong enough to race in 2025. But I’m thinking 2026 I will be back out there taking care of unfinished business.
Hello my frend
Thanks for watching!
Whats the weight?
Without the wahoo, the epic weighs 23 pounds even.
