James Gunn stated before that he was using Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman as a partial basis for this film. Morrison has a method in his writing where he sketches up concepts for his artists to go by when drawing up his scripts. Quitely did a now-classic cover image of Superman leisurely sitting on a cloud looking over his shoulder at the audience for the All-Star Supereman comic. When he came up with that image for the artist to draw, he said he was inspired by a cosplayer at a comic convention who was dressed up as the character and was sitting around nonchalantly as if he didn't have a care in the world. Morrison said that after talking to the guy, he thought that someone as powerful as Superman would be a bit more casual instead of striking a heroic pose all of the time, so that was the inspiration for the first issue's cover. He wanted to convey the MAN in the Superman, so to speak, by showing him more as a regular guy, in spite of all of the SUPER about him. I'm guessing that man and superman theme is something that Gunn's going for in this pic. The idea for as SUPER as he is, he's still just a man and not a god nor as infallable as many think he is. Notice the burned scorched marks on his chest, symbol, and arm, as if he'd just returned home from some huge battle or saving people from some huge fire. In my mind I thought of him getting ready to watch some shit on Max for the evening then get up in the morning to go to work at the Daily Planet, UNTIL that big thing in the sky in the background over Metropolis hit and he says, "Sigh!...looks like ANOTHER job for Superman!!!" Hahahahahaa! As much as Superman would want some down time to take it easy for the night, like a cop or a doctor, Superman can and will always be needed at a moment's notice, so I could see how something like that could get to a man, even a man of steel. I'm looking forward to this one. I'm kind of sick of this whole angry god motif that WB has been chasing with the character for awhile now. Time to get back to the man in the Superman. That's the entire point of this movie, mark my words. It will be a much more diverse Super-Person. "Legacy", by definition, is something that is passed on and that will be the entire point of this guy being in the movie.
The reveal photo should have been bright and hopeful. It should have had Clark either flying through the sky, hovering in the sunlight, or even resting at his earth parents farm. He should have had a warm smile, and the costume should have been simple. With simple textures, simple fabrics, and no collar. The costume should have been sewn by Ma Kent, and he should have worn it proudly because it was stitched with love. That paints a much more wholesome uplifting picture than the moody one they used… why promote the photo with a dark/empty shot of a grumpy Superman casually suiting up while the world is under attack behind him? Crazy.
Me personally, I think the only gripes I have with the suit is that it goes up his neck, kinda like the New 52 design, which i was never too fond of, and that it doesn’t look as form fitting. I like that we're getting the red trunks and the yellow belt. Got that S curl in the hair. I’m kinda with y’all in the sense that I kinda wish the suit reveal was something a bit more grand than him post (or pre) battle. The lighting and the fact it looks like an on-set production still just makes it feel less... grand to me. But then again, I push back a little on that too, that this tells me that the movie will get into his "human" side a bit more, despite all the fantastical things going on both inside and around him. I guess for a suit reveal, I was expecting something a little more Super, and a little less man, if that makes any sense. Considering we’re coming off an iteration that was very moody and mopey, it’s odd that the first reveal for the new iteration…. is something moody and mopey, considering Gunn has been open about the more hopeful and optimistic versions that he’s taking inspiration from. Still, the design of the suit is totally fine with me, outside the turtle-neck style. Regardless, I'm still looking very much forward to this flick.
Superman has super speed but is taking his sweet time while the city is being destroyed. I loved MoS, but this looks like it fits that universe so why not keep Cavil?
James Gunn is showing that Superman puts his boots on one at a time like everyone else. And let's not forget this Superman has doing this for some for couple of yrs now. He is not fresh on the scene like Zach Snyder's Superman. What I see is getting back to business. I mean who smile while that put on their shoes to go to work rather you like it or not.
The costume looks like a "costume", but Gunn does that intentionally with characters like the Peacemaker and the Poke A Dot Man; he intentionally makes the costumes look like cosplay costumes in order to make them feel silly and yet very human. Rather than make colorful superhero costumes more grounded he goes more campy, yet treats the characters with a lot of sincerity which is his style.
Getting Amazing Spiderman 1 vibes from this costume reveal. Why use a battle-damaged version that’s still hiding a lot of details in the image that’s supposed to show it off?
Zack Snyders Superman was perfect for the universe he was in. He was a Superman trying to understand himself as well as his place among humanity. I loved that they explored that and with time he would of became the Superman we've came to love. Just my opinion.
Good understanding from a-GREAT-film,but,fandom didn't want a Superman trying to find his place and purpose in humanity, they wanted a Christopher Reeves clone right from the opening credits.
@@kerry-j4m Well the Jerry Siegel outright said Reeve was great as the character so you believing that’s not how the character is meant to be like is redundant.
If you had a hard day of fighting crime in Metropolis, got home, Lois has got on that fine lingerie and already has something in the oven and you're like 'phew, I can take the rest of the night off' and then like a QUANTUM SINGULARITY OPENS UP OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW just as you're about to take off your boot and you're like 'F*CK. Korey, we've already seen how you waffled back and forth on those SUICIDE SQUAD trailers. God bless you, but we're not doing this again. The photo looks solid, I'm a fan of Gunn's track record with funny book shit, and the suit will likely look better in action in the first trailer.
I think it looks cool, I wasn't really expecting a 1980s superman suit, what's most important is that he acts like how superman should. I think the actor looks perfect for the role, and they even included the red shorts.
should've made MOS2 with Cavill ... also the whole Snyder thing he never got to finish his character arcs so we can't judge it when we never saw Justice League 2&3 or MOS2. Like how Batman had a character arc from BvS to the Snyder Cut from angry and bitter to being redeemed and hopeful
I don't have an issue with the suit, its more the way its being presented. Or more specifically the background. It looks ai generated and lacking definition. Is Vegeta firing a Galick Gun out there?
At first I was mixed but know I’m kinda feeling it. Superman look tired as a mf he’s about to beat the hell out of that orbit in the sky he just got to shake it off a little 😂😂💯
The lightning in the background from the event shows that the the picture was taken at about 7000 frames per second. That's how long it took him to put on his second boot.
Superman should portray the undying optimism of someone facing the most insurmountable of situations. Even the strongest man on Earth can't fix everything, but he's going to try. And he knows thats the true victory is that people dont lose hope. Call him corny or whatever but hes the most super hero of superheros. Superman!
I'm a Superman fan. Brandon Routh/Bryan Singer Superman Returns movie was the return of Christopher Reeve's Superman (Post Richard Donner). Nostalgia goggles don't help your argument. Despite what you think/feel, how did Superman 2, 3, 4, and Returns do financially?
This needs to have it's own identity. Everybody wants it to be like the other films and older comics but many comic book adaptations and other properties have come after the first film adaptation. Time for something fresh and new instead of copy paste Superman. We know he's already going to be reluctant to be Superman the first half of the film according to Gunn. Let's not judge too quickly.
I think it looks great. It's an excellent collage of previous takes I could see people complaining about the loose fit and the high collar but it's a solid distinction.
I wasn’t sold on the new style of the S symbol initially, but seeing the whole suit now, I really like it. It reminds me of Captain America’s suit, in that it looks more like a uniform with padded armor rather than just plain spandex

That paints a much more wholesome uplifting picture than the moody one they used… why promote the photo with a dark/empty shot of a grumpy Superman casually suiting up while the world is under attack behind him? Crazy.
I didn't know Gunn wanted to make another Hancock movie with a white guy.
He looks like he’s being asked to save the person who keeps eating his food leftovers out of the fridge.
This how I look getting dressed for work 😂😂
Me personally, I think the only gripes I have with the suit is that it goes up his neck, kinda like the New 52 design, which i was never too fond of, and that it doesn’t look as form fitting.
The reference to Kendrick Lamar’s Damn album was too dirty. These guys are becoming the funniest reviewers on UA-cam 😂😂😭😭
Theyre already using it for memes 😂
The suit gives me race car vibes a little bit.
Why are people expecting him to look super excited while he’s changing his shoes? 😊 👞👞
Right??
Superman has super speed but is taking his sweet time while the city is being destroyed. I loved MoS, but this looks like it fits that universe so why not keep Cavil?
James Gunn is showing that Superman puts his boots on one at a time like everyone else.
And let's not forget this Superman has doing this for some for couple of yrs now. He is not fresh on the scene like Zach Snyder's Superman. What I see is getting back to business. I mean who smile while that put on their shoes to go to work rather you like it or not.
I miss the quiet dignity of Superman jumping into a phone booth and getting dressed in it.
I miss phone booths
In the amount of time itd take him to find a phone booth in 2025, the villain wouldve killed 20 people and got away.
Nice to see James kept Goku and Vegeta fight in the background
This Superman looks like he says "Fuuuuuck" to himself when he realizes Metropolis is on its 600th bank robbery or superhuman terrorist attack
What i get out of this is that superman is rich as fuck. Look at that loft, looks straight outta booty talk!
His dad stashed some Kryptocurrency in his baby pod, and he cashed it out when it was at an all-time high.
I mean why wouldn’t he be rich? Man can make more money than Batman but chooses not to.
Superman thinking: lois about to call me her doomsday once I'm done tearing up them cheeks
Superman: "Can I have just atleast 5 min without Metropolis falling appart!!!
This photo reminds me of the teaser trailer for The Incredibles. You see a vulnerable Superman here.
Getting Amazing Spiderman 1 vibes from this costume reveal. Why use a battle-damaged version that’s still hiding a lot of details in the image that’s supposed to show it off?
Personally, with zero investment in comics and comic book movies, I think the design looks great and definitely has me interested.
Wow I thought you guys would have realized the photo is showing he puts one boot on at a time like humans
A guy that never gets tired at what ever he's doing, now thats a superpower.
I don’t like how loose fitting it seems but I have faith in James Gunn
This video needs to be labelled "The Roast of Jame's Gunn's Superman"
Zack Snyders Superman was perfect for the universe he was in. He was a Superman trying to understand himself as well as his place among humanity. I loved that they explored that and with time he would of became the Superman we've came to love. Just my opinion.
Superman is an-ALIEN-pretending to be-HUMAN.
@@kerry-j4m
Lois Lane: “Who are you?”
Superman: “A friend.”
Good understanding from a-GREAT-film,but,fandom didn't want a Superman trying to find his place and purpose in humanity, they wanted a Christopher Reeves clone right from the opening credits.
@@petermj1098 Superman: PINK. Lois Lane: What did you just say ?? Pink, the color of your &&&&&&&.
@@kerry-j4m Well the Jerry Siegel outright said Reeve was great as the character so you believing that’s not how the character is meant to be like is redundant.
Lol he's getting undressed like " Call Shazam im off the clock."
AGAIN? ON A TUESDAY? I AIN'T EVEN CLOSE TO THE WEEKEND, HOLD UP.' you'd look like you were straight out of a Better Help ad too!
...why the hell is your concept of Clark's home life is like a bad version of the 1950s?
Korey, we've already seen how you waffled back and forth on those SUICIDE SQUAD trailers. God bless you, but we're not doing this again. The photo looks solid, I'm a fan of Gunn's track record with funny book shit, and the suit will likely look better in action in the first trailer.
Bro stood on business for this comment 🫡
If they gave us what we expected, there’ll be nothing to talk about.
It’s just a picture thrown together. The point is to show us the suit.
I think this is the suit his mom made but the final suit will be shown at the end of the movie
I think it looks cool, I wasn't really expecting a 1980s superman suit, what's most important is that he acts like how superman should. I think the actor looks perfect for the role, and they even included the red shorts.
Homelander put a S on his chest! Lol 😆
I like the intent behind the photo more than the photo itself.
As always i reserve judgment until i see the suit in the movie
Does anyone else think the suit looks like it's made out of Denim?
Now that you mention it i think it does.
My pocket took the most unflattering screenshots of Korey 😅
It is a surprising choice for the first image.
It's growing on me. Just the way the cape sits on top of the delts is a bit weird. It's superman dude, I'm happy I'm getting a film.
should've made MOS2 with Cavill ... also the whole Snyder thing he never got to finish his character arcs so we can't judge it when we never saw Justice League 2&3 or MOS2. Like how Batman had a character arc from BvS to the Snyder Cut from angry and bitter to being redeemed and hopeful
I was feeling down and then you showed that scene of Reeve as Superman at the end of the video and I feel a little better. Thanks for that!
I don't have an issue with the suit, its more the way its being presented. Or more specifically the background. It looks ai generated and lacking definition. Is Vegeta firing a Galick Gun out there?
For next video: Mamma Mia (2008), The Ten Commandments (1956)
I think the suit looks fine. I am patiently waiting for the trailer.
I think sharing this gets more reactions than just posting a watching out of the window Superman. He knows exactly what he’s doing James Gunn
At first I was mixed but know I’m kinda feeling it. Superman look tired as a mf he’s about to beat the hell out of that orbit in the sky he just got to shake it off a little 😂😂💯
Reckon an apartment with that view’s got to be at least $5000 a month
What is going on in the background of the picture?
A pink Death Star.
I like the picture. It conveys a working class hero mood I can definitely relate to. Too bad this picture wasn’t just for people like me, I guess.
Problem is is that we've come off already with a decade of a Moody grumpy Superman so having that be the tone in mood was a giant misfire.
Oz is right, it do seem like he just finished handling some business at Lois apartment 😂😂
Korey always has to agree with others because he doesn’t want to start an awkward argument or disagreement
I think I'll wait for more photos and footage. Im not mad, but I'm not going crazy. Just patient to see what's next.
Lol at the Kendrick comparison 😅🤣
Superman: DARN, not this sht again.
I think it looks great. It's an excellent collage of previous takes
I could see people complaining about the loose fit and the high collar but it's a solid distinction.
I think its the suit his mother made, he starts off with that suit then upgrades it months later in the comics
Imagine James Gunn finding this channel and listening to y'all's comments. I guarantee he'd lose his shyt from laughing so hard😂😂
I wasn’t sold on the new style of the S symbol initially, but seeing the whole suit now, I really like it. It reminds me of Captain America’s suit, in that it looks more like a uniform with padded armor rather than just plain spandex
16:24 So done with y'all lmao
