      No it’s about having discernment and choosing things that won’t cause you to stumble. There’s a reason why it’s said the eyes are the window to the soul. What you look at and give your time to are big factors that can affect your walk. The same way that you can feed your body junk and suffer from the consequences physically, you can also do that to your spirit. The Bible is clear on what’s sinful, so it makes it easy to choose what I look at/ give my time to. For example, sexual immorality. I’m not going to look at porn, listen to music about sex, read erotica etc. it’s pretty simple..ask God to guide you. The more pure your spirit is from this world, the closer and more connected you feel to God ❤️

    • @Sarah-dq1fm
      @Sarah-dq1fm Рік тому +4

      @sierralunagaming9738
      First off I’m giving my testimony, I’m not forcing my views on anyone. Secondly, what you’re saying isn’t biblical at all. You’re slapping a Bible verse at the end of your comment and you’re misinterpreting it’s original meaning. The devil is a deceiver and what may sound “innocent” to you may have other meanings and origins to someone else which is why it is urged to use DISCERNMENT when making decisions. That verse does not mean that we have the right to indulge and do whatever we want to do. Paul, the creator of that book also wrote
      “I have the right to do anything,” you say-but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”-but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.
      1 Corinthians 10:23-24
      So which one is it? We do have freedom in Christ but we also have to use our gift of discernment, and that goes for anything that we use or put in front of our eyes. Worldly music does not praise God, it praises things that are destructive and evil and it only makes sense to stay away from things that can only influence one negatively.

      Also it is of God to work…read the book of Proverbs or go to the concordance section and look for Bible verses that have ‘work’ in it. You’ll find a ton of verses stating that working is a godly trait 🙂

    I stopped listening to secular music and I was way less tempted to sin. Secular music can be very triggering. I cut out secular rap all together. I also agree that there are 3 categories. where I personally listen to Christian music that I consider godly (because there are Christian’s songs that I do believe are ungodly and not actually inline with what scripture teaches), I would say there is a neutral category. For example I enjoy listening to jingle bells, or ‘let it snow’ during the festive season. Or playing nursery rhymes like ‘the wheels on the bus’ with my children. To completely say there are only 2 categories,personally I think is a bit super spiritual. There are music and songs that most people probably Sing to or even hum without even realising that are indeed in the neutral lol

    This is the only music that will be played in heaven I believe. Ask yourself does the music promote: sin like sex drugs n violence.(songs of fools says Proverbs).? If so you avoid it. I agree w Bro.Parr because neutral is lukewarm music so it depends like he said. If you have no peace about the song that is neutral because Jesus is one hundred percent the Prince of Peace...then avoid the song...where you are confused should I or should I not...avoid it. If you are one hundred percent comfy w the neutral song listen to it but still seek God and ask him to order your steps.

    "For I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean".
    Disputable issue, reliant on a Sheep's Holy Ghost Guided Personal Conviction through Prayer.
    Some secular music I am fine with, such as Instrumental Drum and Bass, and I do enjoy it (so long as it wont cause a Stumble, try "Lessons Learned" by "Polaris" for an example of it.) but a lot of Secular Music I do esteem unclean, as sadly the Lyrics are often Ungodly in the Extreme (Fornication, Swearing, Revelry, Homo, Blasphemy and other such unmentionable Topics!) , and thus, I avoid it like the Plague to avoid Scorching My, admittedly somewhat weak, Conscience.
    Love and Peace.

    • @razterizer

      Rom 14:14. Great point btw! But there must be a limit to how far this verse can be applied, right?

    • @simeonyves5940
      @simeonyves5940 Рік тому +2

      @@razterizer Indeed there are Limits Brother, Two of them as far as I am personally aware (I have not been saved all that long, just over 2 Years now, and I am between Denominations (sadly, the One I was raised in (CofE) is now Completely Apostate and has become Ichabod, and I feel I can no longer be a Member, for it is no longer a church of God in My View, So I am looking for a good, solid, Biblical, Reformed (I Openly admit that I am a 5 Point Calvinist) Church now) and am relying purely on Internet Teachers of solid repute right now, so My knowledge is a little limited), there could be more, I know not.
      But, from what little I have been given through the Holy Ghost, the two limits are, firstly, the Limit that is Written in the Verse itself, "but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, it is unclean" , so that limit, as we are to be separate and touch not the unclean thing (2nd Corinthians Chapter 6) , anything a Sheep esteems as unclean in His Conscience, then that Sheep must not touch it, it is unclean for them, so that is the first Limit, and we need to consider the Consciences of our Brethren, that verse does not Cover walking Uncharitably (scorching a Brothers Conscience) or Scorching our own Conscience, so there is a Limit there.
      An Example is the Hyper-Disputable issue of Videogames (using this as I do not actually listen to all that much music), even in the Reformed there are Three Views on that. "Put away childish things/ You cannot be a Christian and play videogames, they are abominations" (Which I view as Legalism) "You can Play, but be careful what You put afore Your Eyes and Ears" (what I Personally Hold to) and "Play what You want!" (which I consider Antinomianism) So a Hyper Disputable for sure.
      I consider most of the Legal (Forza/Gran Turismo/ GRiD, etc, so long it is ESRB E or a very Mild E-10 at worst- I go on the American ESRB ratings as I find them, often, rather more accurate than the European PEGI Ones!) Car Racing Titles to be Clean, and I engage with them, after all, "Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that which he alloweth" but I esteem the Violent Games to be Unclean, meaning they go beyond the Limit of that Verse, as for Me, those Games are unclean (a Screenshot is enough to make me feel very Nauseous and even Defiled!), so I avoid them like the Plague, I touch them not , so an Example there of where Romans 14 14 has a Limit, we Cannot touch that which we esteem to be unclean in our Consciences, for it is unclean to us!
      Sadly, I also know that if I was in the Presence of a Fellow Sheep who esteems all Games to be Unclean (sadly, there are many even in the Reformed), I would have to throw a Towel over the Screen and Unplug the System from the Mains to avoid scorching their Conscience.
      The Second Limitation is when something is Expressly Forbidden in the New Testament, (if a Forbiddance is only found in the Old Testament, such as the old food laws, then that, as part of the Mosaic covenant, was nailed to the Cross, has passed away as Christ fulfilled every last tittle and jot, and is no longer binding, but if it is repeated in the New Testament, then it is an Active Command under the Covenant of the Blood of Christ and is to be observed as best as the Sheep in Question can Possibly observe it, Strengthened through the Holy Ghost and Prayer, as it is still Binding.) , then Romans 14 14 does not cover it, it is beyond the Limit, if God has said No to it in the New Testament, then it is No. Period!
      So if a Song, as, sadly, a great Number (I know it is not all, but, sadly, it often "feels" like it is all, as Sheep we are naturally sickened to the Point of Despair by how sinful this fallen world is) often do, is actively Promoting something, such as Fornication, which is Forbidden in the New Testament, than that song is not covered by Romans 14 14, because the song contains the Doctrine of Demons, because it goes against, flying in the very face of even, the Holy written word of God, and, as we cannot partake in the cup of devils (1st Corinthians chapter 10) that Song is to be Shunned and fled from as it is Ungodly and Profane, because it Promotes something that God has Forbidden in the Covenant of Christ's Blood, the New Testament.
      So, Two Limits. That verse does not cover, and cannot cover, anything we Personally Esteem Unclean (Such as Violent Videogames) and anything that is openly Forbidden in the New Testament (such as Fornication) and anyting in those Categories has to be avoided, I feel.
      Sorry this was a little long Winded, but I hope it explains My Mindset, and I apologise in Advance for any Wobbly Theology, as I am willing to accept Guidance there.
      Basically, I agree with Pastor Parr. Christian (such as one of the Finest of the Pre 1928 Hymns) is to be Commended, Neutral (such as instrumental Drum and Bass) is Romans 14 14, while Ungodly (which, sadly, all too often contains a fair bit of so called CCM due to the Influence of Heretical Cults such as the NAR..oh Dear.. as well as most Pop Music Sadly due to the consistent theme of Promoting Fornication in much modern Pop) has to be Fled From!
      Love and Peace.

    I disagree about rule 2. People usually feel guilty depending on the way they were taught. I came up from a strict No Tv, no music, no shorts, Apostolic church that did not even allow you to befriend those outside the church because they could make you backslide. So with that said I feel guilty all the time doing anything. I cannot even listen to the word in another church, attend another church etc without feeling guilty. Surely, this is not the work of God. So stating that if you feel guilt for listening to it that it is bad for you just seems kinda wrong. If one person feels guilty because they were raised in a strict church and the other feels no guilt because they were raised in a normal church it does not come down to the Holy Spirit and conviction it comes down to how you were taught. I do not believe there are things that are good for some and bad for others.

    Great answer brother Allen. I love to listen to instrumental fusion jazz, nu jazz etc when I’m not listening to classical worship song from the 90’s and back or hymns. For non-Christian music the lyrics is not important but the melody is. For Christian music the lyrics are very important and the melody is secondary as it is a means to deliver the theological lyrics to the heart of the worshipper and the to be projected to God.

I've met people that felt any and all secular music was inherently sinful, no matter what it was saying. If it wasn't about God, it was sinful. The problem with most music is that it appeals to the flesh with it's sensuality (the beat and some hedonistic lyrics)! That should be ANATHEMA to a Christian!!!!!! God says over and over again in His Bible that we are SPIRITUAL beings trapped in physical bodies. We are to DENY the body in order to aspire to a higher spiritual level. Satan CONFOUNDS our walk with Jesus by appealing to our fleshly nature. Through music, he reminds us that WE ARE carnal beings, and he deceives us into thinking we should simply enjoy all the pleasure that our physical bodies can provide us. That is ANTITHETICAL to God's Kingdom!

      Is it just through secular music or a variety of other things. Let's not give Satan to much credit now.

      @@CLDJ227 No, it's about anything that SENSUALIZES a person. That can apply to Christian music as well! That's the argument AGAINST Christian Rock and ESPECIALLY Christian Rap, and I am in complete agreement with that!
      Don't dismiss the power of Satan!! When you do that, you play into his hands just like when he convinces people he doesn't exist. Satan has tremendous power! He has the power to deceive us into turning over MORE POWER to him by convincing us to do things which are in AGREEMENT with him. When you do that, you give authority over yourself to him just as Adam did in the Garden of Eden. Also, just as there are generational blessings, there are generational CURSES. Satan has authority over family lines until that authority is broken at the cross, but still we must pray against it!
      Satan is not a joke! He has GREAT power, but he is a DEFEATED FOE.......BUT we must assume the power and AUTHORITY of Christ in order to defeat him. He's defeated, but we must stand on that truth! "Apart from God, we can do nothing."

      @@timfurnier7061 I'm with ya overall. But I would not object against anything that is classified rock. See tunes like Satriani's summer song... an amplified guitar version of Mozart!

    Ask yourself, would Christ listen to that? If not, then you shouldn't listen to either, amen? :)

    As a Christian musician, I am always attacked by Christians for performing music that isn't directly praise and worship.
    But to me, if I shouldn't play music that is secular, then that would also mean that Christians shouldn't also be actors acting in non Christian film productions either. Don't get me wrong, I don't play music that goes against God or how a Christian should live. But to say a Christian musician shouldn't play any secular music at all, then you have to apply it to all and every form of art. For example, Christians shouldn't paint so that the secular world can see it. Where do you draw that line with that type of theology? Should then Christians also not work in secular jobs? Play secular sports or go to secular gyms? They shouldn't certainly be watching UA-cam, Facebook, or other social media. The problem with self righteous religious people is that they make rules to force guilt on people when they can not even keep those rules themselves
