      @Enzzo Meh, I'm not religious at all really. I believe they are more a guideline of how you should treat others. "Most" religions have the same underlying message(Don't be a shmuck). I really think the world would be a better place if we just treated others as we would want to be treated, but maybe that is just me working in the service industry for too long. My new favorite quote, and sadly I can't remember the source is "Choosing kindness is just as easy as smiling." The world is mostly an evil place, but there is always good in it, if you look for it. I don't think we should have to look for it myself, but it is what it is.

      I would disagree. Usually swarms of earthquakes is an indicator that a major eruption is about to occur. USGS Geological Survey pocinologists were flown from the United States into the Philippines. They were monitoring Mount Pinatubo. The prediction was that the mountain was going to have a large eruption. The scientists were nervous because past evacuations resulted in no eruption. This time they were correct. The sheer volume of Ash was enormous. It's cascaded down on top of Clark Air Force Base and collapsed many structures on the base. Eventually Clark Air Force Base shut down for good after being on the island for the last 100 years

    Yellowstone supervolcano gets a lot of attention, because its in the USA and closely monitored. Actually, The Lake Toba system in Sumatra, Indonesia is larger and erupted far more recently, 75000 years ago. If it went again it could kill millions world wide. The Lake Taupo system in New Zealand North Island is about the same size as Yellowstone, except it seems to be far more active and last erupted only 26,000 years ago (the last supervolcanic eruption on earth, which was actually slightly larger than the last Yellowstone eruption 640000 years ago). In fact Lake Taupo has supererupted several times since the last Yellowstone eruption.

      extinction level? doubtful. it's really looking like the mega huge eruptions of 10 million years ago are a thing of the past. the heat flow has a lot of lateral movement to get thru.

    • @johanssonb
      @johanssonb 6 років тому +9

      Maybe not so big as to reach extinction event magnitude but seeing how some eruptions in the not so distant past brought about global climate changes to the point of causing severe famines and epidemics in some parts of the world, I think it's safe to say the whole planet would be in serious trouble.

    Lake Toba in Sumatra is bigger, & more dangerous than Yellowstone. It last erupted approximately 77,000 years ago, & killed roughly 94% of the Earth's population.
    As Supervolcano's go, I would keep a closer watch on Toba.
    There are some Supervolcano's we haven't yet identified!!! Anyone of which could go at any time without warning. So if you absolutely, positively MUST have something to worry about.....

      And the sadder thing is, Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics organisation isn't as good as USGS, the guys at USGS have some ideas like creating a geothermal plant on Yellowstone to drain the energy first before erupting, even though anyone can say it's bullshit because X and Y anyways, Indonesians will never thought of such crazy ideas because we're too lazy to think.

      If it gon pop, we gon pop it ourselves, but moabs around the whole volcano, put some underground, that will squeeze that oil from the pimple, later the oil will go every where, to avoid the earth sinking from melting icebergs, we use salt water to cool the magma down

    For anyone worrying about the predicted eruption time. We only have 3 volcanic eruptions to go off of, so the actual predicted time for when the volcano is supposed to erupt is unknown as of yet. It could've been that the last 3 volcanic eruptions were anomalies and just erupted quick compared to its average or anything really, we just don't know since we're basing it off of its 3 past eruptions.

    For what its worth, I just got back from the park yesterday and all of the geysers were as clear, white and as beautiful as I remember them 20 years ago. I'd be much more concerned with rising ocean levels and an ICBM launch from North Korea, they pose much more realistic threats in the next 10 years, let alone 10,000.

      swisskristin12 We’re actually due an eruption anytime now, which I think is much more concerning than North Korea’s empty threats or the ocean levels which are already being studied and improved by others.

    • @Tsumami__
      @Tsumami__ 6 років тому +14

      swisskristin12 LOL then you don’t know anything about NPK or their lack of nuclear capabilities. Anything they launch won’t make it to mainland America.
      Also, the earth is fucked, sea levels are going to rise and it’s not going to be stopped no matter how many electric cars and wind turbines we have.
      The Yellowstone plume is going to decimate half of America, and wipe out a large portion of the rest of the world because of the after effects. It will have repercussions that last thousands of years. It’s a super volcano who’s source is a massive...MASSIVE lava plume. It’s not like a regular volcano eruption, with a much more limited amount of lava. The flows could last for years.

      It wouldn't cause a mass extinction event. The closest comparison to a powerful eruption would probably be a large asteroid impact, but the effects of eruptions don't last nearly as long. Anyone in the blast/hot ash radius would die yeah, and nearly the entire country would be covered in some amount of cool ash, but it wouldn't black out the sun for months or anything. It already had 3 known eruptions and none caused extinction events.
