Just a note, most, if not all, stained glass sold at Hobby Lobby is machine made in China. This can present problems for stained glass artists using it in a traditional stained glass window or piece. There are still companies in the US that make glass by hand. One in particular is Kokomo Glass in Indiana. Thanks for your video
Hi Sandra! Thank you for your comment. Hobby Lobby also sells Oceanside glass which is made in Mexico. Beautiful stuff! And yes, we definitely want to support local stained glass stores and manufacturers as much as possible. For those of us who need glass in a pinch and don't have time or a local stained glass store to run to -- we've got another source, and possibly at a reduced cost. Thanks again! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Just read you comment and was wondering why using machine made glass from China is a problem? Is it a different width? That would be the only thing I can think of that would cause problems when aligning pieces for a window.
@@donaldjones8920 Hi Donald, thank you for your question. I'm, personally, kind of old school when I make stained glass pieces, so I prefer hand made glass from factories and companies that have been around a long time. As far as I'm aware, the machine made glass has no difference that would cause a problem for using it. In fact it would have less inconsistencies. I have noticed a difference in cutting it sometimes. I've had a couple of pieces break off of the score lines incorrectly. Maybe just me? Sandy
@@sandrabrown476 Thanks for the reply. I am just getting into stained glass and was wondering if I should avoid Hobby Lobby glass? Thanks for clearing that up.
Last night at Michaels, the $15.99 sheet of opaque olive green glass was on clearance for $5, but broken. Manager let me have it for $1, no returns allowed. I'm good with it! It's going to make some amazing slender leaves for my lavender mosaic garden art! :o)
Hi Kimberly! What a SCORE! Pun intended.🤣 Wait, Michaels has stained glass??? Sounds like you got a great glass deal and a plan for your first mosaic of 2024!🪩
Julie, I'm not one to ask for a discount, but I did try it once. I got turned down, but by a clerk. Next time I will find a manager and perhaps have better luck. Thanks for the tips and I am glad to see you!
Hey Julie!! Thanks for the tip! I took a trip to my HL and found a beautiful sheet of white glass cracked in half ~ took it to the manager and she gave me 40% off!!! I was happy about that. Exciting! Hope your healing is coming along nicely. Take good care!
They're more likely to do it in hobby lobby if you're buying full sheets, otherwise if I were a worker I'd be suspicious if someone brought over 3 or 4 pieces of broken glass....and I'd possibly suspect they broke it themselves on the way up. I think that's why sometimes they say yes and sometimes no. If you're a regular or really need one color and can't get to your normal glass store, pick up 1 or 2 of the broken ones and they'll give you a discount on the broken sheets. Check the sheets though, some are terrible quality with weird spots too, though. hobby lobby also sells cheap scrap boxes of glass sometimes too, which I've taken advantage of and added to my scrap piles and mosaic piles.
Thank you for the time and effort you put into your amazing videos to educate the public. Please know how grateful I am for your tutorials. I wish you much inspiration and joy.
Hi Diane! Aww, thank you! I’m so happy too!🤗 I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos. I don’t take myself too seriously.🤣 Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here.🔥
Hi Julie - how are you now? I too am recovering but will be some time before I can resume mosaicking due to the plate in my right wrist!!! This FOOSH business is terrible 😢😂
wish more craft stores carried glass. I do have a stain glass store that has a sale bin of 4-5 dollars a pound and will cut glass so I don't have to buy a whole sheet. I like that sore i have had fun getting pieces of glass that the color is one not used often. I am also glass you are getting better.
Hi Marion! I agree, buying smaller pieces of glass is a good way to experiment with color and texture in your mosaic art. Not having to pay or buy a large/specified amount sort of removes any pressure so to speak and allows your mind to let loose. Enjoy it! Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here!🤗
Hi there! I haven’t worked with Van Gogh glass, but it would work for glass on glass. Just keep in mind that because of how it’s made it wouldn’t be suitable if you wanted light to pass through it. Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here!🔥

@JulieWeilbacher I think that only select stores carry the glass, mosaic 1' cubes by the bag (clearance $2) and cutting tools.

I get all my glass from a shop that does stained glass with lead. They sell me all their scraps by the pound
SWEET!! I bet that’s some lovely stuff.😍
Woohoo, Julie!!! Glad you're on the mend.
WOO HOO is right!!🤣 Thanks for the well wishes.😊
So glad you are doing well Julie!!

Hi Julie, have you done any work with Van Gogh style stained glass? I'm wondering if it would be suitable for glass on glass application or not

Have you made your own stain glass from alcohol inks on clear glass?
Hi Tabitha! I haven’t but would LOVE to. It’s on my list.😊 Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here.🔥
Finding large sheets of stained glass is tough.
Agreed💯. If you’re looking for sheets larger than 12”x12” then you’ll need to go to a stained glass store. But ohhh what a treat!😍
@@JulieWeilbacher The seller in Atlanta quit selling stained glass. That leaves Charlotte, NC in the SC area.

Yeah hobby lobby would just trash them
So much verbiage made the video useless. Blah blah blah lots of words, little meaning
I tried this trick and they turned me down. She said you're going to break it anyway.
Well boo. I would go back another time when a different manager is on duty. It’s totally subjective.🤔
I have brought up the question if I returned the sheet broken for a refund, if they would take it back.
