  • Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Pass and others performing this Duke Ellington's and Irving Mills' song in London, in 1974. This live date was recorded at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Soho.
Note the fun she makes in the beginning of the song and also while singing it. Ella was and still is majestic.

When she scats hard like this, she's like a hurricane, an unstoppable force of nature. I believe that she was the best singer of be-bob, standards, and general all around jazz that ever was. Like one of her back up band players said: It'll never be this good again. It just isn't available. Lucky for us, there are SO MANY CD's of her out, with more being added all the time. I love You, Ella.

Jazz has all the elements that other music has: It has melody; that's the tune of the song, the part you're most likely to remember. It has harmony, the notes that make the melody sound fuller. It has rhythm, which is the heartbeat of the song. But what sets jazz apart is this cool thing called improvisation. 2:34

Give them a try if you haven't yet.
