  • I played in a normal tempo.
I used the sequencer function of CS-80V in the 1st lead sound.
    filter controlled with expression pedal
    chromatic approach with monophonic lead
ring modulator controlled with modulation wheel
ribbon controller simulated with pitch bend wheel
    sound module by Arturia CS-80V3

Dang, you done nailed it! Agree with Michael Geyre that the upward chromatic bit is the CS-80 glissando function

      Thanks!
I also admit that Eddie used a CS-80 ribbon controller.
If the VAX77 had come with a ribbon controller, I would have used it.
I played the chromatic scale the same way Eddie played this song with the VAX77 in recent gigs.

I would be interested to buy the Arturia CS80 patches that you have created for this.

Great choice of song. Not many people know of UK. Very good performance as well.

      Thank you!
I love Eddie Jobson's synthesizer work.
I think the solos in this song are especially inventive regarding his synthesizer technique and tone.

@@kerederoom78 You are VERY close to the original, but... Exactly ! I wish Eddie Jobson (and other keyboard gurus of the time) released their original settings of ACTUAL PHYSICAL CS-80 and other synths (including Hammond organ, Yamaha el. grand piano) for all UK and Zinc creations as they appear on the studio albums. Just like in the Classical music world we can re-create anything composed in the last 350 years, thanks to precise music notation and existence of period instruments : Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Stravinsky etc. you name it. By the same token, IMHO both UK albums in 200 years from now (if we survive as civilization, which I hope we will) will be regarded Classical in the same vein with the big Greats of the past. Sadly, nobody would be able to re-create the ORIGINAL ACTUAL TIMBER, and performance techniques associated with it (ribbon pitch controller movements on CS-80, outside effects settings i.e. reverbs, chorus, delay, basic sequencers ) in a live concert setting to sound EXACTLY like on the record (of course minus vocals :-). IMHO - the individual "timbral discoveries" of the 1970s and 1980s should be preserved for the future generations in some kind of universal notation form (perhaps ADSR, LFO, EG settings etc.) or release of plug-ins. I also grew up listening to UK, transcribed note-by-note entire pieces, and wish I could reach the original timber "as is" on the albums. What do you think ? It's nothing to "prove" anymore IMHO, the synth programming abilities, individual "secrets" etc. Let's think big, and perhaps encourage the musicians that are still alive, to develop the system of musical "notation-preservation" in case if the future generations will want to enjoy live performances of entire studio albums. That includes 3-4 keyboardists/pianists/organists on stage in case of studio multi-track layering. Just a thought... Excellent job, by the way !! UK is one of the best groups ever.

What exactly is going on at 0:58? What is the LFO modulating?

Very nice work, and one of my favorite UK tunes. Are those patches you worked up yourself, or do you know if they're available for download anywhere?

      Thank you!
I created these tones by myself.
I'm thinking of making a website for downloadable sales, but I've been busy and it's still under construction.

    good job, but:
    - CS80V sounds nothing like a real CS80 (you'd get better results with memorymoon ME80)
    - the chromatic part was played with the glissando function of the CS80 ;)
