I have a story about my Dad and my Aunt. These were my Dad’s exact words.
“She asked me to take her to the store and I said no, but your Grandma (His mom) forced me to. I took her there and counted down from three. But when I got to zero, she was no where to be found. So I shrugged and drove home. She ended walking home during a snowstorm while she was pregnant.”
And a story my mom told me about my older brother.
“When he was two, I counted down from 3 and he didn’t stop what he was doing, so I spanked him. I felt so bad and apologized profusely. He giggled I had hit him so light though. It didn’t seem to faze him that he was in trouble. I started crying and never did it again.”

I remember once my mum told me to get out of her house, I was 13 or somin and so I packed my bag and 'ran away' to my aunties house which was like a 20 min away, which at that time was a long walk. I was nearly in my aunties front garden when I see my dads car and he tells me to get it.
My mum had called my dad off work and my dad was lecturing me how I could have embarrassed my whole family instead of my mistake. Anywho cuz I went on a walk I was rather calm and cuz my dad was tired we just got fish and chips and when we went home, my whole family was pissed at how shit of a punishment I got. But on the bright side I realized the way I calm down is go on a walk

When I was younger, like pre/ early teens, I was super messy, and so was my room. Somehow, every week, without fail my parents would have to tell me to tidy it. Obviously they got pretty sick of it and eventually said they would stop bringing it up, thinking I would learn to keep it tidy on my own after it got super messy. I didn't. After three months they gave up and just resolved to banning Tv if rooms weren't tidy. I was so proud of myself for being able to prove them wrong but I don't know what i was trying to prove. I just think that my 11yo self thought it was super cool to just live in a pile of crap. I swear I'm not like that anymore.

One time, my father and I were solving math problems for my homework. I has trouble, as I didn't get what he was saying. My mom wasn't helping AT ALL. She instead shouted at me all day for making mistakes, and even threw something at me. She got so mad that she even made me get out of the room. That whole day I didn't even say a word, and I avoided eye contact. I knew that if I looked at her even once, that she would think I was mad at her. There were lots of times that she would scold me for no reason at all.. But, even though she does physically hurt me, I still love her.

Discipline comes in many forms, physical, emotional, and mental. I found that mental discipline works better for my use. Majority of the time kids or even adults act the way they do is because of problem with understanding and communication. After talking it out and explaining on both ends things gets done and results are found without feeling guilt or sorrow on both ends.

As a 23 year old I find it insane why many parents and kids believe it's ok to be hit and spanked by family members when that is abuse. Speaking from experience I was abused when I was a child by my mom until I fought back against her which finally made her stop and She would scream and curse at me, slap me, pull my hair and throw me on the floor and threaten to murder me a few times and I really hope no one defends her actions since there is no reason to abuse anyone for any reason. People and parents like this need to be reported and need to learn how to be good parents without putting their hands on anyone even their kids in a violent way🤦‍♀️

We once drove to my grandparents house which was like 4-6 hours away from home, depending on how many breaks we make and how well the traffic likes us (it always hated us, with the lights turning red everytime we got there), but one time, when my favourite song played on the radio, I started singing along, and despite my little sister hating that song, she joined in to annoy my parents. But we were 7 and 9, we didn’t know that our dad wouldn’t be able to concentrate with our deafening singing, but dad yelled at us and threatened to throw us out and let us walk the rest of the way, and he didn’t even start counting. We instantly stopped singing and were on the brink of crying. Well, my sister already broke down because she with her 7 years didn’t wanna walk to my grandparents house when we would still have to drive about three hours by car and she didn’t even know the way. But I just stared at my dad’s seat from the back, tears in my eyes, not understanding what I did wrong. Mum probably felt sorry for me after about half an hour and told me that dad couldn’t concentrate with our singing in his ears. Ever since then, singing in the car was a no-go for all of us

I've been reading through the comments and it sounds like a lot of you are being abused. Guys- your parents shouldn't hit you. Not even as a punishment. Like a light, teasing slap on the arm, leg, or head is acceptable as long as you're still comfortable. But you should NEVER be slapped like what I've been reading here. Ever. Acceptable punishments are groundings, extra chores, cleaning up a garden area, etc. But never EVER something that physically or mentally harms you. That's abuse. There's no other way to put it. If you're in that situation, you need to talk with your parents about it and tell them how you feel. If they don't listen, say they wont do it anymore and then continue to do it anyways, or anything else like that, talk to somebody for help. Get out of that situation.

I kept begging for a certain kind of gum that lots of kids at my school liked.
My stepmother yelled at me this, "YOU BETTER BE QUIET YOU SPOILED BRAT"
I was kinda traumatized. She was nice to me when I was younger.
    Then I kept repeating please.
Then she grabbed a wooden cutting board and slapped my face.
I got knocked out for a few minutes.
Then my father carried me home and I got the gum.
Then I never saw my stepmother till the age of 14.
