    Wow. I am Armenian and I wasn't expecting to hear that the Gypsy word for button is "kochak", which originally comes from Armenian. I knew that from centuries ago a number of words from Armenian had entered into Romani, but it blows my mind that some of these words are still being used today.

    My father is a Spanish Gypsy. This population calls itself "Caló" (masc.), "Calí" (fem.), "Calé" (plur.). Unfortunately, as in Spain the Gypsy (Caló) language has been forbidden for centuries under the death penalty, no grammar of this language is still existing today. Only words survive and also some expressions that remind the now disappeared grammar of this tongue.
    In my father's family they all speak Caló with a strong Andalusian accent, as they all were originally from that region, even if my paternal grandmother was born herself in the Valencian Community.
    Some usual words that are in use in my father's family are:
    Batu = father
    Bata = mother
    Plan = brother
    Pañí = water
    Yaqui (pronounced as Yaki) = fire
    Erajái = priest
    Curajái = Muslim/North African person
    Balule = pants
    Pinró/Pinré = foot, feet
    Baste (with an almost disappearing "s" that length the vocal "a", just like the Andalusians use to pronounce Spanish) = hand
    Jampuñe = soap
    Graste (with an almost disappearing "s" that length the vocal "a", just like the Andalusians use to pronounce Spanish) = horse
    Chuké = dog
    Dron (nasalized "n", just like the Andalusians use to pronounce Spanish) = way, path, road
    Ron (nasalized "n", just like the Andalusians use to pronounce Spanish) = man, husband (* = "Rom". Note however that the Spanish Gypsies NEVER use this word to call themselves as a population!!! *)
    Rumí = woman, wife
    Caló = Spanish Gypsy (this word basically means "Black")
    Callardó (pronounced as Cayardó or Kayardó) = coffee, Black man (as the Black men have a coffee couloured skin)
    * A non-Gypsy is called with 4 different names, such as : Payo (masc.)/Paya (fem.), Jambo (masc.)/Jamba (fem.), Gachó (masc.)/Gachí (fem), Buznó (masc.)/Buzní (fem.) (with an almost disappearing "z" that length the vocal "u", just like the Andalusians use to pronounce Spanish). However only the two first words are still commonly in use and more especially the first one (Payo/Paya). *
    Bu = arse
    Ful = human dejections
    Mol = wine
    Kel = house
    Acobá = here
    Múi = mouth
    Jandé/Jandele = money
    etc.
    Each of these words must be read just like in Spanish with the Andalusian accent. If we except "Graste" (horse), which comes from the Armenian language, "Dron" (way, path, road), which comes from Greek, and "Mol" (wine), which comes from the Persian language, all of the other words have an Indo-Aryan (North Indian) origin.
    Concerning the expressions that remind the now disappeared grammar of the Caló language, my paternal grandmother remembered to hear her parents saying:
    Re pañí = boiling water
    Dron bruje = the road that goes straight
    ¡Najela al kel! = Come home!
    A part from that, as you may have understood, the Spanish Gypsies use their words and verbs with the Spanish grammar, using the Spanish articles, etc.
    I hope I brought some new information.
    Btw, I took mine, my parent's and my son's DNA tests and I posted the results in my channel. This is my channel about. So, if you're also interested in Gypsy genetics, you're welcome. ^^

Many Indians among them do not even understand. That is a very large country with vast territories and is very diverse. But the language of Roma is unitary, regardless of dialect, to understand from 10% to 80% according to the dialect. But the common root of the Romani language is of Indian origin. @@gypsyjoanertv3906 if you’re here to invalidate me then I’ll tell you I think that’s common knowledge. Because the language is so secretive and so scattered it obviously wasn’t completely passed on.
      But if you’re here to actually compare notes then I’ll tell you that we say vonger with a V there. None of us have ever seen any of the words written down, and there’s no grammar whatsoever. For example we say shun for hear, and we will say I shunned that or I’m shunning that. We’ve got no pronouns or articles and we use a lot of approximated phrases to describe things.
      I am blind, but I know that my family has darker skin and my mom says that they have certain features that are specific to Romanichels.
      My grandpa is the full Romney Of the family and I don’t know how much he doesn’t know and how much he just won’t/hasn’t told us. That’s why I haven’t really studied the language much, because I don’t know if it would really be the same thing as what he knows. Most of my first generation Romanichel relatives have either died or are dead to my grandpa for one reason or another.
      It’s really interesting though and strange that you felt the need to argue with how I identify. It’s not like I would gain anything from posing as my particular race, I just don’t want our culture to die out as each generation knows a little bit less about it and my uncles not teaching his kids about it at all.

'Tri' means three, Trishul is a weapon with 3 pikes on it. Since the cross looks pretty much like a Trishul they started calling it as Trushul?

      My Grandparents came here to the US in 1930 from Germany. I found out from Ellis Island records. Grandma was in a head scarf and everything. People would take pictures of others getting off the boats and sell them. I love digging up the history. They came because Hitler was rounding up Roma people (yes before the Jews) and so the left everything behind for a safe place to live. They ended up settling in Pennsylvania. My father would not speak to me in Roma, in fact they lied and said they were Italian ( I guess they were embarrassed?)

After islam came in not only took over they adopted our music as well . Get your facts right .. flamenco music dance was inspired by gypsies.. .theres no question about it ...
