SOUTH AFRICA'S 2024 | END OF YEAR REPORT CARD

- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- How would you grade South Africa in 2024 out of 10? Back to back world champions, so nothing to prove, right? Well...maybe they felt they needed to prove a point to Ireland when they came to the Republic. And maybe they felt like they needed to win a rare Rugby Championship trophy.
Tim you in a Springbok shirt suits you. Big ups to the channel. We should make you the CEO of the IRB
He now looks like Tim Coetzee 😅
@lewisolaka4216 🤣 brilliant brother
Hi Tim, if you manage to go to the Bokke vs French team, you have to wear your Bok shirt and don’t for get Bok Friday😁 That Bok shirt really looks good!
Tim Ndlovu, our undercover Springbok ❤
Ayii suka madoda 💯 😂
Thank you Tim.
I work in maintenance, which is mostly a thankless job. People only remember you exist when things break.
Meeting you is my highlight of 2024. Wishing you and the family a peaceful and joyful Festive Season.
Eldon...you were the first person I met in SA, at OR Tambo... and you set the tone and set the bar very high! Your countrymen and women followed your lead. Thank YOU!
@@EggchasersRugby Indeed they have. I am very proud of the truly SA'an hospitality you were shown. What you said about us being desperate to show how beautiful our country and people are was true. ❤️🇿🇦
The Eden Park test is by far the juiciest prospect in 2025.
I kinda wish that NZ would schedule that match to air live at 4am South Africa time as a throwback to my days as a young boy, when I'd wake up early with my dad to watch the ABs vs Boks, over coffee and rusks. Sadly commercial interests will prevent that happening, but that's a tradition I miss.
Same here fam. Best memories
I agree, waking up early, snuggling with the heater on.
Those were the days hey. One of my best memories is that Pieter Rossouw try at the old Athletic Park in Wellington and the Bokke winning that day
Duvet and coffee at 04.00! Great memories! 😁
The best memories. Cold with the heater and a big blanket watching at ungodly hours
You are an honorary South African, boet. Thank you for seeing all the beauty in our wonderful country. Please come back, you will always be welcome.
Got to love Eggchasers - balanced and insightful.
Thank you Tim for always talk so highly of South Africa. You will always be welcome here in our beautiful country. Greetings from Cape Town.
Gald to have the Saffa's in the URC, and the champions cup as a result.
Super rugby's loss.
Always enjoy seeing their club teams come to Thomond 🔴🔴
Thank you Tim for all your positive comments about South Africa and the Springboks. You are definitely an honorary South African and Springbok supporter. As an expat living in Australia, you make me so proud when you wax lyrical about both. May you and your family be blessed with a Merry Christmas and a healthy & prosperous 2025.
You are always welcome in our magnificently beautiful rainbow nation. You are now a brother from a British mother. Thank you for what you do on your channel.
Boks 9/10 for the year for me. Which should be scary for the rest of the world considering we didn't play as well as we should and could have.
Keep up the good work man!
Hi Tim, make that Jersey permanent😂 and move the family over!
Agreed. 😂😂😂
Tim the Green and Gold suits you 🔥😅
Hi Tim. Love your show and congratulations on just being made an honorary South African!
I see Tim, he talk bokke, I like. Simple. Appreciate all you do for SA and our fans. Quality content as always.
10/10 for the team, 10/10 for the coaches and 11/10 for Rassie! The boys did us proud!
A very merry Christmas to you and yours from South Africa, Tim! We're all looking forward to lots more Eggchasing in the future.
As a Saffer we have been blessed over the last number of years with a very capable team under the stewardship of Rassie (lets not forget Jacques Nienaber and the rest of the RWC coaching staff, Tony B of late).
Rassie took over a real mess and has shown exceptional leadership qualities and skills, not shy to surround himself with people with greater skills, listen, absorb and just steer the ship.
The honesty offered to players and the resulting commitment from the players is a wonderful thing to observe, even just as an outsider and fan. I think you had a taste of that with your visits here.
We should really enjoy this, be ever so grateful, hope for more of the same, support our team on the highs and the lows, but be humble in our successes and honorable in our defeats.
Rotating 50+ players in a season, with those sort of results is really very impressive, and I agree with you Tim, you never really got a sense that all cylinders were firing due to the radical changes to gameplay/style etc. Glimpses, but not consistent like say the AB's team of old that were relentless!!!!
Next year, the NZ or France tests!!!! Oh Boy, both humdingers.
The Boks will be facing both World Wars in a short space of time. The French will be beside themselves for redemption and revenge following the RWC, and NZ, as always a formidable foe with some history to tag onto their sleeves in an endeavor to protect, will be their uncompromising self I am sure.
Great rugby ahead. 👍👍
Thanks Tim and egchasers !! Best analyzing and commenting of the year on rugby games.!!! Keep it up in 2025 mate. 👍🍻
A good honest assessment Tim. Well done.
Nothing beats Kings Park for atmosphere and after game braaiing and partying.
Future looking bright for SA.
As a South African, as big as the France game is going to be, it's honestly inconsequential to me in comparison to the Eden Park New Zealand game. I'd severely dislike losing the France game, but the Eden Park is non-negotiable, that HAS to be a win, even if we have to lose the France game to win it. As good as France is, and as much as they've been coming up as a rival and with the whole Dupont-Kolbe who is the best player in the world debate, I quite frankly would gladly sacrifice that game if necessary in order to win the Eden Park game, there's nothing that takes presidence over beating the old rivals of New Zealand.
100%
1000%
Disagree both games is equally important. France robbed us of hosting 2023 and made an enemy of us how they treated the Boks after defeat. Have to rub their nose in the turf again.
@@orlandosadie6283 I agree that putting France back in their place is important, but personally, they're still an inconsequential and inconsistent Rugby power that's not going to be as powerful or relevant in say, 2 or 3 years as they were last year. The All Blacks however have always and most likely will always be there as our rivals. We'll have plenty more opportunities to stomp on the French, but breaking an All Black record doesn't come often, hell, it only really comes once a generation, whereas beating the French is arguably a bi-yearly affair
@ We did that in the quarter. Breaking the Eden Park record is far more important.
Nz will always be looked at ahead of any other nation, the rivalry is unprecedented. And the centre is Van Wyk, bit of a beast in the midfield but Jesse could make it to the 2027 world cup as he's in amazing form but even better physically.
Amazing insight and unashamedly tell it as it is. Well said regarding Rassie @ 7:40 "Risk loosing in order to gain experience for 27" True indeed how R grow depth. Love from Pretoria SA.
We saffas want to see you on the world rugby board. The organisation needs a clean out and people like you will make a huge difference to the setup and rugby will have a secure future
Thank you Tim. This is the cherry on top when you reflect on the year gone by . Your reviews and analysis is of the highest order. Respect
Thanks Oom Tim
Hope you have an amazing holiday season
Thank you Tim you such a real person the world needs more people like you❤
Henco van wyk
Thank you for all the content throughout the year..always looking forward to your show..Hope you and the family have a blessed Xmas and new year..2025 is going to be a great rugby year..
You are appreciated, Tim! Happy holy-days bruh!
Love your stuff Tim. I say Grant Williams is now our top 9.
PS: Results graphic had 2 errors. 2nd match vs All Blacks was 18-12 and Wales in the autumn was 45-12. 😊
Thank you Tim for all your 2024 work....Amazing dude!
Another wonderful video Tim - Eden Park next year is going to be beyond EPIC - if SA win it's five in a row against the AB's - and wow, France in Paris - have to be a travelling fan - right up there with how to spend money and time.....
You are so correct Tim, talent off the charts. Look forward to 2025 Eggchasing. Best wishes to you and your family over the holiday season. The best rugby show on the planet. Stay safe!
I agree that South Africa are 9/10 for the year - what else could they be? - and they are clearly in a good place right now. I have SA friends who are already confident of breaking the All Blacks record at Eden Park, for example. Indeed, they are in pretty much the same mental space that NZ found themselves in 2016 after winning back to back World Cups. The word of caution though is that they have been beaten and competitive teams around the world will always find a way to break down every team. Yes, SA have strength in depth, but an injury or two to some key players - like Etzebeth or Du Toit - and their balance could still be put out of joint. Next year will inform us a lot more about how international rugby as a whole is emerging.
Two big games but New Zealand at Eden Park will be the biggest game for any bok supporter I'd imagine.
Much love Tim Botha❤
Awesome show Tim, can't wait to see you back in South Africa again. Keep up the good work!
Great Channel for Rugby thank you Tim.
Ti m.
Thanks for doing this and maintaining an unbiased view of many topics, Have a great holiday season and I look forward to reading your blog
Love your balanced and even handed approach. Keep it up
Thank you for the interest you have shown in South African rugby. We genuinely appreciate it. I would be very interested in you developing a conversation hosted on Boks Office by Shimmy this week, where Robbie Fleck and Nick Mallet try to dissect the state of South African domestic rugby at the moment. I accept that you might not have all the necessary information, but an outsider's look is sometimes exactly what the doctor ordered.
I have always lamented what I feel is a massive gap between high school and professional rugby in South Africa. Our youngsters get sent on a pathway too early before we can be absolutely sure that they are indeed the cream of the crop, and as a result, I sometimes feel like we lose talent that could in fact have developed a little better after school.
I think there have only been two SA Schools captains that have gone on to captain the Springboks over the years (Corne Krige and Salman Moerat), while so many have fallen by the wayside in the end, when we realized that they weren't the ones. Frankly, I am not convinced Moerat is the one either but we are persisting with him because this course has been charted for him since high school. When we realize the SA Schools guys aren't necessarily the ones, it is too late because somebody potentially better has already moved and secured a career in finance or something instead.
Prestigious "rugby schools" and Craven Week have become the be-all and end-all. If you don't get into either of those systems it is over.
However, the more interesting issue raised by Fleck and Mallet is the development of coaching in South Africa. I would be keen to hear you expand on that.
Tim ....thank you for a great channel - you look like a real CHAMP in that green jersey - I think every team in SA should donate a jersey.....Lions/Stormers/Sharks/Bulls
A merry Christmas to you and your family and my best wishes for a great 2025.
Personally I will give the Boks a 8 out of 10 for the year, but I think they can still improve a lot. They have not been in top form where everything is perfect, and that they gel perfectly. But Hopefully Tony Browns game plan and strategies for the backline will come 100% together. Our forwards always do the job so not too much work to be done there.Thank you for a brilliant show, and keeping us updated through 2024.You must have a merry Christmas and awesome New year. 2025 is going to be an absolute belter of a rugby year. Lekker.🤙🇿🇦😎
Have a great Christmas Tim, like the Boks have a break and enjoy what was an epic season. Yet the next two years will be the main focus now, hitting that "peak" at the 27' World cup here in down under.
Tim you bring me to tears of joy. You are always welcome in my house
I look forward to your videos!! it's been a journey with you Tim
NZ in NZ by far the bigger event Tim…surprised you even questioned it. France is big for the moment…All Blacks have been huge for decades and the rivalry between them and the boks are unsurpassed
Tim, l fully enjoy your show. It is very informative and refreshing.....keep it up.
Hi Tim. I honestly think 2025 is going to look a lot like 2024 with squad changes and different game plans and wont be surprised if Boks loose a few more games than 2024 but coming to the end of 2025 we will see more cohesion and will see more stability going into 2026. Going into 2027 you will see our next WC team but then again Rassie does love the fact other countries can not analyse the Boks as you never know who is going to play.
If I was a boks fan I would be very happy. They won the rugby championship, they brought on some great new players and set themselves up nicely for the lead in to the next world cup.
Great take Tim! I do think that we won't have quite as many top players per position by 2027. Some stalwarts won't be there anymore and others won't be at their current levels anymore. That's why the new recruits are so exciting and the fact that there are so many of them. So instead of 3, we'll only have 2 world-class options in every position .
Thanks Tim, love your channel. Boks 9/10. Season greetings from Cape Town.
Thanks for all your hard work this year Tim... much appreciated....
The Eden Park game is without a doubt the biggest game of the year... The Frenchies in Paris will be more emotional for the Frenchies though because they want to be able to say.... "see, we were right all along"....
Without being too confident (and any team can have an off day) unless they go to hell in a hand basket in 6 months.... I don't see Our Boys losing either....
All the Best for You and All You Love.... Be Blessed 👍🏻👍🏻
Always a quality feedback from Tim
Agree with the 9/10. I think if we win the Irish series then you could make the augment for a 10/10 season. So a last minute drop goal is all that is standing between an amazing year and a perfect year.
Cheers Tim ❤🎉
Boks go to Eden Park is the most excited I've been for a game as a neutral (England) since France v New Zealand 2022. If they can break the Eden Park streak, it gets much harder to argue that the current Boks aren't the best team of all time.
Great work as always. Giving the Boks 9.5
9/10 for results....10/10 for new approach
Best Channel Keep it up. 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Henco van Wyk. What a player.
You are Always super. Keep it up.
Great channel really enjoy your insights. Your experience of rugby in South Africa says a lot and rugby is imbedded in the culture. 30 years have passed since 1995, what will it take to bring the WC tournament for another visit?
Awesome stuff thanks Tim 🎉🎉
Well done Timothy my prayers are answered Bokke jersey suits you...
Citizenship next...
agreed at 9 Tim.
Awesome perspective
I'd probably score the Bokke as an 8.5 / 10 based solely on their on field performance but I'd agree with your 9 based on their building depth, giving new talent game time and also expanding their playing style to not rely so much on set piece. A great year overall for the Bokke but I can't help thinking they're still not playing at the level they can be.
Happy Christmas and all that from Cape Town :)
My biggest concern for SA is at 9. Faf and Cobus are getting up there with age, and opposition have clearly studied how to counter Hendriks. He takes to long at the ruck, doesn´t look at the opposition and has a two movement pass. Consider the all round threat that du Preez and Joost had at reading the game, incredible. The Boks need a Roigard, Du Pont or Gibson-Park to get them to 2027.
Henco van Wyk is the the lions center you were thinking of, I think
Ah yes. I don't know why I was thinking of Edwill. 😅
Thanks Tim.
8 out of 10 !!!
10 out of 10. The results speak for themselves. I'm not talking about the loss against Argentina, I'm talking about winning the tourney. The loss against Ireland was close and I don't mind it as much. Still 10 out of 10 for our boys.
Something which needs mentioning is that Libbok eas not thrown under the bus when he missed that kick in Argentina. Instead, he was included in the starting XV for the game the next week, despite a public outcry for him to be banished to the bundu. For that the Boks should get a 10/10.
I think Sanele Nohamba could become special, if someone trusts him and gives him gametime
Lions Center's ,was it Marius Louw or Henko van Wyk. Anyway . Merry Christmas to you and your family Tim , come visit us again some time in CT .
have a wonderful break over the festive season and look forward to 2025 along with eggchasers
Haha, Tim did I detect some pj trousers below the Bok shirt? 😂😂
I look forward to both Eden Park and Stade de Francais.
Both will be beyond hostile considering the QF and Final.
Our players need that sharpening, win or lose.
Was going for a 9 too!
On a completely unrelated note Tim, I think you will be happy to know that, while we are in December, Fabien Glathié still has a moustache ={ )
Very good year for Boks, looking good for the future, and with a few coming back from injury, we can get even better.
Unfortunately a massive gap between Bok rugby and SA club teams as can be seen in our bad performances at CC euro level.
Many try to hype up URC but that is little league stuff compared to big league CC euro level or SR12/14 back in the days.
Until we fix that gap, our bok rugby success will be taken with a pinch of salt, because one team are doing good for SA, not all or more teams as a collective effort.
I've said it all year, the boks have been good without as you say going into top gear, I think with the cutting down and consolidation of the squad we will see a springboks team getting very very close to top gear. 8.5/10
Tim did you get your silver youtube plaque 🥈 merry christmas man 😎
8/10 two losses sting, but as you say, when this team fires, they will be incredible
Agree, 8/10 is fair because of those 2 x losses
I'm going to say 8.5 out of 10, but with an asterisk. We have rotated a lot of players and haven't always looked as polished, had we been more consistent with our selections.
That being said, we have to build depth for the future and this is the year to do it in.
So in terms of our performances, yeah, 8.5.
In terms of achieving the real end goal? 10/10.
9/10 for this season seems fair, but I'm less confident about the future than you seem to be. Mainly for two reasons: (1) I don't see the strength in depth as optimistically as you do, (2) I wonder if Siya's captaincy has almost run its course. Re (1): Yes there are plenty of exciting players coming through, but there are a few positions that are 100% key to the Bok style in which the "next generation" player isn't at all clear. Most importantly, who are the next gen successor's (of equal potential) to Etzebeth, Marx, PSDT, de Allende, and Kolbe? Re (2): No disrespect to Siya, who has been a wonderful Captain (and Ambassador for SA, in a sense), but who are the "next gen" candidates for long-term captaincy?
8/10 Due to results and not getting out of 3rd gear. Hoping to see a complete performance next year.
Scary backline filled with yougsters
9. WILLIAMS
10. SACHA
11. ARENDSE
12. WILLEMSE/JULIUS
13. HENCO VAN WYK/HOOKER
14. KOLBE
15. FASSI/WILLEMSE
Can't go lower than 9/10, strength in depth is just insane, probably a good thing for the B&I Lions that they're touring AUS instead of SA in '25 :)
Definitely a 9. The Boks are at their peak
8.5 and maybe closer to 8. There's still 20%+ improvement needed but it will come ;-)
This is a dashing year for boks Have to give them 9/10
You forgot faf De klerk.... At 9. 😁😉👍
I do believe the best oc the BOKS IS STILL COMING IN THIS YEAR AS PReparAration for the next World cup in 2027. I just know this in my heart. So enjoy this coming year. Rassie gave them all an oppertunity to show what they have.So lets enjoy of what is coming.
Comparing them to all the other team results, I must😊give them 10/10. Ireland was lucky. Got away with ? Springboks are real champions - socially ver intelligent, real gentleman and humble. There they earn a 10. Thank you for your love and objective opinion of rugby as a whole. You’re the Best!
@TIM I think you were referring to Henco Van Wyk from the lions
love the scrumcap...
All credit to the boks. Amazing team. Very little mention of Ireland beating them twice this year. Shudda been 3 but for bizarre tmo decisions in the 1st test, as clearly shown by TAS analytics on UA-cam. Watch it. Disaster of the year is that there was no 3d test. Don’t be upset till you watch TAS analytics. Roll on next game in this amazing duel.
