I've bought and assembled 7 of these, ready to mount onto 2 walls but the assistant in Ikea said each box needs a separate wall bracket (£5) Is the way you have mounted them not going to put a lot of strain on a flimsy piece of 2mm backing? I am because fitting them with the brackets x getting to get them all perfectly aligned looks like it's going to be a total bollox of a job. 😕
+Harry McMahon I'm not putting much wait in the shelves but if you are I'd recommend the brackets and someone to help hold these up while you mark and drill good luck
They're actually pretty easy. Each box comes with a template so all you do is tape the templates to the wall in the arrangement you want and mark all the holes to drill. As long as you drill where you mark they'll be aligned correctly. If you want to further lock them together you can also get little clips that go behind them and connect one to the other. I'd recommend using the wall mounting brackets if you're going to hang them. The way drastig has mounted them is actually using the pieces that are intended to stop them toppling forward if yo have a stack of them for example. It's not really meant to be the way they're secured to the wall.
Thank you man ! I don't even know why I'm posting this comment since I don't even have those boxes and I don't need them but the video was cool. Plus, your accent is dope. Gonna watch other videos from you I don't even need to see, bye !
Yeah.. I went to IKEA and bought 5 cubes, then discovered I should have bought the suspension rails (as they call them) too 🙄. Looks like the rails allow for some adjustment after mounting the cubes. So, off to IKEA again!
Will it hold any weight? I wouldn't trust those weak backs... I bought the Eket without the rail and Ikea doesn't even have them in stock, so I'm looking for an alternative solution. Thanks
Yesterday I put together an Ikea Eket cabinet with 4 compartments and found you have to follow the instructions very precisely. Since the drawing is not all that clear I’ve set out the steps bellow. 1) Find the top part of the cabinet, which is the part marked with a number 1. 2) Add a side piece to the top to form an ‘L’ shape, ensuring the groves line up. 3) Find the parts that make the cross that divide the cabinet and act as shelves, once made connect this to the ‘L’. 4) Next, this is the important part; add the second side to the cabinet, again ensuring the groves line up. So now you should have a cabinet with a top, two sides and the dividers fitted. 5) Fit the rear panel into the slots ensuring that the join in the panel runs parallel to the cabinet top. 6) Now the final piece, the base of the cabinet, will fit easily. 7) Stand the cabinet on its base to allow the back panel to slide into the bottom grove. 8) Finally fit the plastic lugs the hold the back panel firmly in place. If you accidentally fit the bottom before the second side you will never get your cabinet to fit together. Hope this is of some help.
@@drasticg my girlfriend put it together upside down amd from there i was lost without your video. Thank you very much. Did 3 in a few minutes with your video
I watched this video and still broke 2 of these in a row. The drilled holes for the little pegs are always imperfect and nothing fits right. You have to use a lot or force, and the slightest problem will result in everything breaking. I hate this new toolless system from Ikea. 😠😠😠
Nevermind, i found it. The video is on IKEA Deutschland youtube channel and is called "IKEA EKET: Montage" You will need an optional wall hanger piece.
tommy vy that's also what I thought... So then those pieces he used, what the hell are they actually for? I didn't use them to mount mine on the wall, I used the separate rail like I thought I was supposed to use.
probably get battered for saying this - my God I don't half fancy this bloke. Would like a pint & a good laugh. Sorry if I have caused any upset, not meant to. You're a proper gent and you don't meet people like you. Tek care fella, I enjoy your vlog's. Tak
Bad idea. Those fixings are for stopping floor standing units from falling forwards and are not designed to take any weight. You just screwed them through the very thin back panel FFS! They make wall rails for these shelves - use them!
Drasticg yea its very cheaply made . I snapped the fasteners. I followed everything to a t and couldnt get it in. I had it in a corner so it was ok. I think they could have made the fastening together with locking nuts
Only reason I came to watch this was to double check if you actually need a 8mm drill bit to attach the bumpers on the back but you don't even show that part.
Already broke one. They're complete garbage and I do not recommend. Did it on a hard surface and everything. Even if it had worked though it probably could hold what I wanted it to. They're so flimsy you can probably only have a tiny bit of weight on them.
They could easily support 20lbs each, it's the person installing them who really decides what they'll hold. The cubes are strong, I've had mine hanging with loads of nick knacks for years.
Sorry @UCUC8kK6qLIRYkV-sq-SAIZg, your wall mounting procedures are wrong. You're not using the required rail and you're not attaching to any wall studs - those plastic wall anchors won't more weight than your star wars toy.
I think someone doesn't know what they're talking about. It's a solid wall (brick, as he states in the video). Those plugs are the correct thing to use. You're right about the rails though
what colors have you bought ?

You didn't use the mounting bars that IKEA sells separately for the Ekets
thanks for the message Carla yes I found out after I had posted the video ha ha
o dear
:) at least you managed to mount them unlike me even with mounting bars - My drill hit stone and I've now called a handyman to do it!!
o dear my house brick is easy to go through thankfully

@@drasticg You are welcome, thanks for your reply.
No problem ans the instructions are very bad for these
yo i did that, but the last panel just won't slide in completely no matter how hard i try
Hmm mine came with these wall mounting rails, I wonder if we got different versions
You need the wall hanging brackets if you want to put any weight in them! - These are hold up just by the plywood back :(
Thanks your video helps me alot
Anytime
Thank you, perfect video.
No problem
Thanks, love you
Are these stable enough to stack without hanging on the walls? I can't seem to find simple stacking cubes
They need brackets mate that i didnt know about at the time of fitting this
Thank you very helpful
A little confused on 4:10 I can’t get the board to go back into the other board. A little help?
The cardbord back ? These are not easy to build but make sure you are on a flat surface whe building
How can I hang them without the rail and in a diamond shape?
I have a hard time putting that 4th board in...
I know its hard mate but make sure you assemble it on a flat surface as the clips bresk easy
Yes me too. Just bought it, and the struggle is real
Make sure you build on a flat table
I was about to break mines. But I got together
Thanks for instructions. My dyslexia and those included instructions dont gel well.
Those ikea instructions are not clear at all

@@nicholaswhitehead8842 sweet only thing to ignore is how i screwed them to the wall, apparenty there is a proper bracket that i didnt know about
thank you so much. you saved my life.
Hi how did i save your life?
WRONG!! For hanging boxes, you're supposed to use the 003.400.47 brackets. What he is using is for standing units, not hanging units.
PianoMan10 excuse me can I contact with you .. if you don’t mind ☺️
Wujood As sure
Do we have to drill it? What can I use so I don’t have to put holes in my walls??
magic. otherwise holes.
What’s is the heigh inside the cabinet itself would a 30cm height book fit in?
Tack!
I can’t put the last side on, the back panel is blocking it from fitting together tightly. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Im not sure without seeing it and are you building it on a flat surface
Never mind, I did it wrong... 🤦♀️ sorry for wasting your time, thanks though! LOL!
Not a problem
pretty good
Cheers these boxes where hard to not break lol
Great ..thanks!!!
No problem
And then, when you realize they sell special brackets to hang these boxes, so that way you don’t see ugly screws on the inside 🤦🏼♀️
Yep, i didnt know at the time
I don't know... Hanging them on the thin (and loose) back board? I wouldn't load them too heavy.
there are brackets for them that i didnt know
They've changed how you hang them on the wall now.
Hi, is this cabinet is detachable ?
i have a serious problem i wanted to build them but it doesn’t want to fit i’m scared about the fact that i break it also sorry for my english☹️
Make sure you do it on a flat surface as i did one on the carpet and it snapped the clips

I broke one to only thing that made it better was assembling them on a flat surface
I just bought these and broke one today. Their instructions suck. Although, I don't really use them.
I broke one to and yet there instructions are bad
The screws are not supposed to be seen. They are supposed to be behind the box.
+Viviane Diniz medeiros I will look into that thanks
But how? The assembly manual does not show how, and none of the bits supplied with the shelf is made for the task.
