    That was one of my favorite vans when I was growing up. They look good when you pump it out. That is if that’s what you are going to do. When I was 16. My first car was a 1966 Chevy impala. I wish I still had that car.

      I’m very excited to get it all done up! It’s such a bummer to think of some of the cars I wish I had back as well 😩. 66 impala would be amazing! Gorgeous car

    Watched second episode first and subscribed. Was a little edge of my seat and biting my finger nails as you were dropping the motor!

      through the bottom is more feasible with a lift...it didn't occur to you to measure the height of the engine and compare to the clearance under the Van?? smh... @@OverRevved

    I am old enough to have fooled with these back when they were not all that old. As I recall, the van had a splash pan under the front that directed air up to the radiator while traveling at road speed, which is likely the overheating issue. That splash also had a flat plate near the end so the air HAD to go up to the radiator. Engine removal is from the top, after pulling the trans. The doghouse is bolted to the floor so pull that and all of a sudden you are wide open. Engine crane in through the passenger door or the side cargo doors. That HEI distributor is way newer than the van. Guessing late 70s or so. Could be the engine was changed years ago for a 230 cube unit. The original engine was a 194 cube unit. BTW, I stumbled on one of these maybe 2 years ago while at a music festival in upstate NY. It was near perfect. The owner said he found it in a storage container with the roof cut off, because someone was going to convert it to a high-top camper. (fiberglass roof) All of the original parts were there so he welded it back together then painted it. I compared it to my 64 Corvair panel van and my van was a foot longer! (what was Chevy thinking?) This thing has the same dash cluster and glove box door as the Corvair too.

      Ya that 230 that came out appears to be factory! I thought it was suppose to be a 194 also but after checking block codes it seemed to match. Crazy! Maybe a rare deal 🤷🏼‍♂️ some good to know stuff though! Thanks!

      @@OverRevved oh, you could have ordered a 230, but most of these were the base model, which is the 194 engine. If that's the case, you may also have "highway gears" in the rear end. That HEI distributor just throws a curve ball into the mix.... but it's worth keeping. They have some serious hot spark compared to the old points ignition.

    Learn to use a choke and you wont need to spray fluid!! Also you have to realize that the engine on those vans are in a little house inside the van so it's like it (the motor) will always start.

    That PVC port on the valve cover was open I hope you drain all the water out of the block after that

      Ya if I remember correctly I stuffed a rag in there. I tore most of it down too after that washing so it was all opened up 👍🏻

  • @emmajerry
    @emmajerry 2 місяці тому

    I don't have a clue why you would not keep the motor in it and make both good running vans!

    • @OverRevved
      @OverRevved  2 місяці тому +1

      Originally I thought about doing that, but the engine was seized and had been open for a long time so most likely no good. Plus with all the rot and no title I wanted the cleaner one. Also I checked that glovebox and it has a latch and holes for the hinge so looks like it was missing after all 👍🏻

      Well I’m currently still stripping that one for parts and it does not have a title so I’m most likely not selling it. Sorry. But I might start putting some of the extra parts up for sale on my eBay and will post a link if/when I do!
