Great version...heading towards my seventies now...reminds me of my teenage days getting ready to go out on Friday night..with two quid in me pocket 😄now listening to this song in pattaya thailand..3rd May 2023..
TWO quid??? Man! You were RICH! 😉
Half your luck mate! Greetingns from Sth 0z! Though I grew up where these boys are from! 😁
Been a fan of this tune ever since I first heard it back in the 70's. Beautiful and soulful rendition here, lads! I feel like this song never really got the recognition it truly deserves.
One of those songs you grow up with and which stays with you your whole life, and there aren't many of those.
I'm a Scot but I spent the second half of my childhood in Newcastle and considered myself an adopted Geordie by the time I left at 16 years of age. I love the Geordies and this stunning track takes me back to some really happy memories. Thank you Lindisfarne and long may you continue.
Listening in 2019 and reminiscing on how good life used to be and the many years I’ve wasted. Tingles up my spine and tears in my eyes. I’m alright here in your arms.
That is such a haunting version at the beginning, timeless classic
Only recently heard this song, it was played at my girlfriends uncles funeral, I was asked at the last minute to help carry his coffin, it will always stay with me
Good rendition....a Beautiful Song..may Alan Hull (The Composer) Rest In Peace.
If anything this version is even better than the original. Goes to show, musicians could play it live in those days, hence they can still do it. Well done lads!
One of the best Intros of all time. Fantastic song.
Agreed the intro just takes me to a happy place 🙂
The last line makes me shed a tear, as I am disabled and rely on my Wife for help, when I should be the strong one.
There are many dimensions of strength Gary, you are more than your disability. Loving kindness is our super-power.
She made the same promise as you on your wedding day, in sickness and in health.
your bond together is your strength
In sickness and health, remember that my friend.....no shame....
I am -- _WAS,_ rather - in the same position until the Love of my Life passed away a couple of years back, and I think I know exactly how you feel. Still, you both said you'd always be there for one another. That said, it takes a rather special partner who can be counted on to be there in the tough times...
what a great version of one of the most haunting records ever made cant stop playing it
I Remember when lindisfarne first released this classic I was a hell of a lot younger and the world was a lot better then it is now but I always say to myself we will always have classics to listen too like this thank you Lindisfarne .
I was 17 when it came out, 70 now, where did that go.
Superb song and performance. Imagine Simon Cowell and his pals sitting hrough that intro.
they're to thick to appreciate proper musicians
Oh, you never know... bang on about how it was your dear old Mum's final wish, for you to win; or tell 'em about your "Fight With Cancer" (but for God's sake, don't tell 'em Big C. is ahead on points, and _definately_ no awkward gory details!)
I named the beat of my heart Eleanor. My daughter. Thanks for this wonderful song.
just beautiful. memories of school in the 70s. tears in my eyes x
Really enjoying re-visiting this beautiful song
A great live version of a classic song by Lindisfarne - I also enjoyed the atmospheric flute intro. Will never tire of hearing this song !
WoW! Just WoW!
No, not just WoW, this song is legendary in my head and in actuality. These guys are loved by millions, and justifiably so.
Goodness me , i"de forgotten this...wonderful song. Great memories of my student days in Newcastle
This intro reminds me of Get Carter, filmed in Newcastle in1971.
Bleak and haunting, the way inspiration comes to you in times you think you could do without, but it feels good.
Anyone else listening to this beautiful song in 2021. Memories of my youth, fantastic., 👏👏👏👏👏👏
No 2023 actually
Saw this band more years ago than I care to remember - this may be too polished a version for the purists but to me its the definitive version - magical!!!!!!
great memories from a distant past, still does it,magic.
This one's a treasure from way back when!
great version and oh man, the pictures of Tyneside in the 70s - the scene of my long lost youth - this exiled heart aches
Peter Lowe same here exiled to the west country but hearing a bit of the 'farne always makes me want to visit the land of my father.... nowt like walking along the quayside on a Sunday morning or dipping my toes in the water of King Eddie's bay, Cullercoats or Whitley Bay... happy days
Keep ahad lads.
I remember those days in the 60’s and 70’s the long and short sands between Cullercoats and Tynemouth and the beach by the pier with all the small yachts on, happy memories. Also the odd trip to Holy Island with my parents happy days.
@@lisaransom4490 Happy Days indeed !! Still love this song and it's in my top 10 ever - much underrated , were they

My favorite song since 1972
just discovered Lindisfarne. I love it.
Excellent, song and players have matured with age. I can kind of feel something go up and down my spine listening to this. :-)
As ime listening to this as an over 50 i still think thers hope,so well sung ,real quality. Many thanks for the memories ,saw lindisfarne in the 70s and loved them and, still do.
still my favourite ever single and this is a great version..
When God finished doing all his stuff he let Lindisfarn write this masterpiece.
Best thing to come out of Newcastle since the A1.
Such a haunting song. I've liked this song since first hearing it in the mid 70's when a British pen pal sent me a Lindisfarne tape. If you're reading this, hello Julie Douglass (then of Drover's Cottage, Newcastle) from Rick in Canada. Thanks for the music!
Smudgefizz How strange my name being Paula Douglas and have a niece called Julie Douglas but not from Newcastle from the Midlands,..but I have relations from Newcastle, just thought I'd share that and I adore this song
A hauntingly brilliant and beautifulk song.
,
I have been listenng to this track since it was recorded (yes, I am that old) and I really like this version. Great work from a great bunch of proper musicians. Wish there were a few more left.
Played to perfection
From a real Geordie told to me back in the late 80's - A True Geordie is someone who was borne in sight of the Tyne Bridge and can see the rivets of the Bridge. Nowadays it's anyone from Newcastle Upon Tyne - North East coast of England..Anyway, what does it matter, I'm an East Londoner, but not a cockney (borne within hearing distance of Bow Church Bells), but we all sound the same. Who cares, most beautful song....
Then the only true Geordies must have incredible eyesight
you have to really keep your eyes open to catch all the great music coming out of the UK since so much never gets played here , but it is so worth it to hear music like this.
I've seen and danced about to Lindisfarne since the mid seventies and they still lighten my spirit ,
Magic times in geordieland back then brilliant band so proud to be a Geordie.
Love this version and Holy Island Lindisfarne. So ethereal. Live on Alan Hull RIP
Brings back great memories of my days in South Shields early 1970s!
I love this song. Beautiful harmonies
Simply magical song.
Fog on the Tyne one of my favourite Albums.
Lovely clear details of A classic northern band.🙂 Guy the tecchie at slot of gigs.
I am 55, and I sing this down the pub on karaoke nights! I always win!!!!
this always reminds me of lake winderemmere in 1972, me and my palls caught about 4 buses to get there from Leeds, this was been played in the pubs at the time, we had nowhere to sleep except bus shelters and peoples garages, police kept moving us on and cos we were all long hiared hippies. still, i love this song, want it played at my funeral.
Gives me goosebumps wonderful
Clements on the mandolin...jeeeze what a player. Especially the second chorus. Brilliant stuff
truly magic song, I am from the North East not Newcastle but this still makes me think of St Marys Lighthouse dive training. even now when this comes on the radio or CD I stop and just take it all in. Don't make songs like this anymore
Beautiful Thanks ♥️🇬🇧
Great song - named my daughter Eleanor because of it! saw them live at York Uni crica 1982
Spot on lindisfarne.... lovely,, beautiful....
Great song.
Hell of a good mix on the desk - good engineering.
Makes you think of the talent in this band not all original members but they sure can play even in their later years you really appreciate classic songs from the 70s when you listen to new songs on the radio now is it garbage going with the times or my old age hmmm I wonder
Wonderful!
Fallen in love with this song all over again, fantastic lyrics, someone must have been a huge Poe fan, the lyrics just sum up Poe's writing and Usher.
Magnificent thanks ♥️
This Song Is Very Atmospheric, A Beautiful Song To Listen To!

Wonderful version
This is a great song amongst many by Lindisfarne. Two others I particularly like are 'Run For Home and 'Warm Feeling'.
What an absolute classic love it
Great song, great Guys :)
This band should be well past its sell by date, but clearly they are rocking it very strongly!! WICKED!
Really appreciate this post
It seems strange at first seeing this song without Alan Hull and Jacka at the front. I never saw the post Alan Hull iteration of the band, but this is a really good version of a classic. Like it.
