Hi James! This is Charles Cranford. AKA Charles in the colonies. Wishing you and your brother the very best and most Merry Christmas. Sorry for all the troubles you are having in the UK. I will be praying for you, your brother, and, all of your in the UK. Take care Charles in the colonies.
You Sir, inspired me to rebuild my existing 2005 Cadian Army to a full 8. Cadian Shock Regiment with full 6 Platoons, plus Kasrkin Regiments. Saw your videos thanks to the youtube algorythm and was already implementing a female quota, so I took the chance and watched all your Imperial Guard Organization videos over and over again, and I love converting the fluff to my current Army. Can't wait to see a full Video on the Tank Army/ Regiment aspect. Then I can do the same with my vehicle fleet. Please keep up the good work. Your videos are awesome!
Thank you so much Saigyo 😃 Glad you are big fan of my content and that you found the videos informative... the Warhammer community needed these videos, so I wanted to fill in the gaps... Forming up the tanks and super heavy tanks is going to be a very interesting task. Super excited to make more videos for this series. 😊
These videos are really helping with Cadian mechanized Infantry narrative company im working on, with an attached tank and heavy artillery platoon. Now i just need to know how to mark all my troops and vehicles.
doing a cracking good job mate! you have inspired me to finish painting my IG and I played my second game of guard we called it after 3 rounds but the guard held, i was playing it pretty agressively and it turned out ok.
And here comes another nice vid, great work! However, I've noticed some debatable moments in your organisation chart 1) Why would a light infantry platoon have heavy weapons in its composition? Their role is to advance forward, skirmish and recon by force. Such situations require speed, manoeuvre and stealth, thing heavy weapons are not exactly designed for. The unit is as slow as its slowest component, which kinda makes light platoon not so light as they probably need to be. 2) Lonely chimera in an infantry platoon looks off place. It wouldn't boost platoons survivability and.or overall speed, its just..there. I suppose it would've been much more efficient to take APCs from all platoons but one and make it fully mechanized. It will be a great tool in hands of company commander, who would use them as one 'strike fast'n'hard' type of unit, rather then scatter chimeras throughout individual platoons. 3) I think you have too many heavy weapons in platoons overall. In some rare situations a platoon might have up to 9 heavy weapons, but I doubt this is possible for more standard type of unit. Its just to expensive to produce, supply and maintain large amounts of autocannons and such. Not to mention having large quantities of well-trained personnel to handle them. I think they are out of proportion from both tactical and, more importantly, economical perspective
Thanks for the feedback and for the constructive criticism of which I will consider. 🙂 you’ve brought out a very good points. And I can understand why it’s debatable. I think we are so used to the facts from earthly perspective, it can cost a fortune to produce The amount of walking you needed to maintain a campaign or prolonged “eternal war”... but what people don’t seem to realise is how huge the imperium of man is, it’s a galaxy size empire. With hundreds if not thousands of Forge worlds scattered across the Imperium All regiments and army groups are different. When it comes to how much equipment and walk here they possess. Regarding the organisation of the platoons the main core of the platoon is the infantry squad, and the rest of the different types of squads and teams are that of optional based, not compulsory, it’s interesting that you point out that the light infantry platoon consists of heavy weapons, some US Light Infantry squads possessed missile launchers for example...
@@18thCadianArmyGroup i see your points, and fully agree with them. After all, we are discussing universe in which genetically modified super soldiers are wearing armor capable to defect a high-caliber shell travel half the universe just to smash some 2-storey building tall bug with a hammer) I guess everything is viable in wh40k, and that's why we love it. Maybe it would help to visualize which units are compulsory and which are optional in your future videos (I hope we will see some more)? For example, if obligatory squads were black, and all others-grey, it will be easier for viewer(especially non native english speakers) to understand which units are core and which are not. As for US light platoons, I believe they are mechanized of airmobile, and not footsloggers. That factor solves the problems I mentioned, also atgms like dragon seem to be smaller and easier to transport by 2 man crew that wh autocannons (judging by gw model, it is extremely bulky).
Yeah it was my bad for not clarifying properly, I’ve yet to do infantry section sized detachments in a future video, so what I’ll do is clarify which units are compulsory, and which units are optional. 🙂👍
I just want something cleared up for me: Is a Cadian Army Group a regrouping of several previous regiments into a single unified force? I'm asking mainly as a Hobby/Painting question because if the answer is yes, i have a little thing planned for my forces.
The answer to your question is YES. There’s 100s if not 1000s of Regiments in a single Army Group. I’ll be making a separate video as to how these large formations are organised. 👍
This is a fascinating series that intend to watch all of as soon as I'm able. I feel it will help me better design my Astra Militarum armies in active gameplay. My one question is, what is your source for these info-graphics? Assuming you're not just making them yourself. If you are making these yourself then I must applaud your work even more.
Love the org charts, but are we sure it's one chimera per platoon? Iirc the chimera has a crew of 3 + 12 guardsman for transport capacity, less if there's a cyclops in the back.

You said in your video that 3 infantry platoons would typically form a company. How then are the heavy weapons platoons figure into a company organisation?
The Shock Trooper Platoon (which is one of the largest types), contains all heavy weapons squads needed without a dedicated heavy weapons platoon... 🙂 But The Cadian Infantry platoon would however usually have heavy weapons platoon in support. Some formations are more self contained than others. 🙂
When researching the layout of the Cadian army... it’s usually consists of a minimum 2 , & a max of 6 platoons to form a single company. It’s however big you want them. As each regiment is organised differently. 🙂👍
Loving the videos still mate! You got a real talent for this. I was wondering if the Cadian Shock Platoons would form their own Companies and the Cadian Infantry would for separate companies to support them or if they would be combined to form larger Platoons. Such as 1 or 2 Cadian Shock to 2 or 3 Cadian Infantry

Great Vid, Your graphics are awesome, and pacing smooth. It's cool to see how you organize your units in contrast to mine, where I model after a ABCT.

Great stuff! An idea for future videos. Try and run each platoon in a game
Yea I’ll try my best to do that... thanks for the suggestion. 😃
That looks amazing, how did you do the graphics if you don't mind me asking?
Great video. Where would you find information like this but for other regiment ( steel legion or catchans ) ??
Thanks very much… Lexicanum, and Warhammer 40K Fandom are good websites for basic lore.

Thank you mate… it depends what type of platoon you want to form up & organise, for example you can have 4 Chimeras in a mechanised platoon. 🙂
Could we have a link to a picture library of each of the platoons? Along with the rank markings too :)
