With the fall of cadia, and re reorganization with guilliman and Leontus, the Astra Militarum ad a huge recomposition for making them more easy to supply in the indomitus crusade. Fist of all, the spetial weapon platoon was integrated in the squads, but now with less spetial wepon for each soldier, that guarantee the maximum firepower with the maximum resilience of each wepon. Before the Leontus reforms the spetial wepons had a high rate of loosing material in the field, extending the logistics without any gain in effectiveness. Now with the invention of the new 120mm mortar, with more range and much more firepower than the 81mm small one, the platoon had a good indirect firepower without the delay of demanding firepower of the divisionary artillery. The recruits now are integrated in the squads making them part in 2 recruits/10 regulars ratio, making the replacements much easier in the crusade, when recruiting the locals and integrating in the different platoon tactics. Nowadays the chimera is getting old and obsolete, relegating them in fast capturing tasks when there are small oposition of lack of fortification. IFV had a bad support weapons for the logistical cost, and there is a priority target when the infantry platoon is deployed by himself in the battlefield. That's why we only see them reservated to scouts platoons and the elite karskin squads to take land in the fist steps of the war. You can support this content by expanding it ;)
Please keep up the narrative content like this! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Primaris Battle Company organisation as of the 9th edition. I know there are still some blanks to be filled, but with the new additions (repulsor moved to heavy support, impulsor chassis getting more weapons) it would be great to hear how you plan to organize your collection.
Glad you like the content... yeah I may do a showcase video on how to organise your SM collection from a narrative perspective. Needs to be addressed I feel🙂👍
Great Job James! I'm really not an army person and never heve the chance to enlist into the army, so I allways have troubles with the ranking system. Now the picture is great clear(er)... waiting the next vid with companies.
Great summanry, I have 3 full infantry platoons exept i have 3 special weapon units instead of 5 and no 30 whiteshields as I don't use them, but instead I have 2 units of 10 Veterans in each platoon. Also my infantry platoons have 2 command squads one for the senior officer ( a captain) and one for the junior officer (a lieutenant). All my command squads have a chimera (including the top brass of a brigade, wich is a Major) Altough often the chimera's will recieve orders to carry other units into battle (mostly special weapon squads or verteran squads to tackel certain important objectives) I also have a full airborne platoon, with 2 Vendatta's and 4 valkyre's to drop them on the battlefield backed up by one Vulture (atm) And I have a platoon of Kaserkin (with no special weapon squads as the command squads fill this role) with 5 saber transports (replacements for taurox prime's) and some dropping in by high altitude jumps :) Almost all of this infantry is painted :p only 30 to go. And I didn't mention my 12 artillery pieces :D
Sounds amazing, excellent stuff, I like the integration you’ve done with veterans squads and regular squads, veterans squads would be a higher rank than regular squads as they are obviously more experienced. All army groups are different when it comes to organisation so it is totally up to the Lord commander(you) as to how units are organised. ‘Cadia Stands’😎👍
Was just wandering what the Technical Expert does within the command squad, is it like a Platoon Sergeant role or more like a technical specialist that deals with comms and other advanced equipment?
Yeah their primary duties are those of a technical and tactical leader, warrant officers also provide training and leader development guidance, assistance, and supervision. Warrant officers provide leader development, mentorship, and counsel to other warrant officers, officers, NCOs, and Army civilians.
Jason Seddon thanks mate... yeah it does sound a bit odd I do admit, but I get my info from Lexicanium and 40k Fandom webpages... I had to amend The transport capacity for Ogryns as it can only transport 4 rather than 6. I do it so Codexs are official canon, then other lore sources. 😊
Great stuff James. Now all we need is for GW to give us back platoons in army composition, and jobs a goodun👍
We soooooo badly need that. 😎😎😎

Loving the content! Keep up the amazing work. I was wondering what your sources are?
Thank you Mark😃 I use Lexicanium, 40K Fandom, and made up my insignia as accurately as I could in respect of the 40K lore. 🙂
Very interesting indeed!! Regarding the Cadian Command Squad, what model and unit type do you use to fill the role of technical expert?
I use LTs for company commander rules, and warrant officer models I use as platoon commanders. 🙂👍

Had a burning question. How does one man keep control over so many squads? 1 man to command I think it's 9 squads?
Subordinates help out with command and control of individual units, each have a particular battlefield role to fulfil. 🙂
great vid as usual, but your saying a chimera is 16 to 17 feet wide. thats seems alot too wide.

Love the channle
Thanks bud. 👍
