  • Nearly 14,000 years ago, prehistoric Lake Bonneville breached a natural dam at Red Rock Pass in Southern Idaho - a catastrophic event that drained the lake into the Snake River at a rate of nearly 15-million cubic feet per second. Large basalt boulders were tumbled for several miles until they settled in what is now Canyon County, Idaho. 12,000 years ago, Native Americans living along the Snake River used the newly placed boulders as canvas to carve petroglyphs.
Today, the area make’s up Celebration Park which offers several recreational activities including camping, fishing, horseback riding and canoeing. The park is home to Idaho’s largest historic monument - the Guffey Railroad Bridge - which was saved from demolition when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It has since been restored into a beautiful pedestrian walkway.

I live in Caldwell which is nearby, went here for the first time last year and lived in Idaho (Born in CA) most of my life. Been wanting to take a drive out soon when it's a little warmer. Need to charge my drone up. If you are up this way again make sure you explore Shoshone Falls, Balanced Rock and Malad River Gorge. ❤

Hi! Thanks for the history. I've never heard this story and it explains so much about such a huge area. One area of my recent interest is New York's fascinating Finger Lakes region.

I grew p in China Lake Ca. When they developed the space Dune Buggies for the Moon shot thing there was a semi trailer that had about four of them on that trailer. Beautiful top of the line everything on them. They were a sight to see sitting at the front gate into the base. What they do with them???? They took them out on the range and blew them up with Jet fired Rockets!! They were badazz to the max!

That bridge looks just like a couple in Kentucky that are still in use.

that's a theory but archaeologists who were fired have a more sounding theory to what those boulders once were and how they got there

They abandoned a bridge because a train crashed off the side of it
