You save me a lot of work from having to tear my lens down starting at the rear, I love this video it saved me a lot of time and aggravation thank you so much...
Excellent video, I have a problem with fungus inside my lens, also getting the Error 01 no communication with lens. I cleaned the contacts as advised but no good. I've sent it back to Sigma for repair. It has to be sent back to Belgium, we have no Sigma repair facility in Ireland and Sigma UK won't take them since Brexit. Unfortunately it's out of warranty so will probably be expensive to repair. Keep up the good work.
Cheers, I have the 150-600mm Sport and have unfortunately a small amount of fungus and dust due to the extreme weather conditions. I'm pretty certain they are similar design so may attempt to clean the front lens section.
Many lenses have the same design, so most likely you can remove the front lens element using my cleaning tutorial videos. Inside the lens it is easy to scratch the coating of the lens (they are not like the outer side of the front lens), so I would highly recommend to use a very soft microfiber cloth, and don't push the cloth very hard on the lens element.
nice work . please have you disassemble the follow group of lenses ? i mean that are in the center" i can see on mine one that there is a chime of presure over a protector black disk but seems to be imposible to remove
Thank you for the video. I have one of this lens and need to clean it up. Can you tell what is the cleaning liquid (is it isopropilic alchool)? Will you make another video on how to clean the other glasses of this lens (the middle one and the back ones)? Again thank you very much.
I use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning. The best way to clean the lens is to use the alcohol first, then use distilled water on the lens element then wipe it dry. That worked well for me. In order to clean the other lens elements, you have to disassemble the lens which is very difficult. I don't have video about it.
Hi there. Do you have any information on disassembly and dust cleaning for Sigma APO 170-500mm F5-6.3 AF D telephoto lens? My copy is pretty dusty, and I'd like to clean it. Filter thread is 86mm, and I can't find those glass element rubber removal tools in 86mm size. Can 83mm size work? This dust greatly affects sharpness of the lens, and I don't want to have another paperweight.
Fantastic video, thank you. I had a really dusty one of these and followed your video to disassemble the front elements, I got the dust out but there's an ever so slight haze on the elements now and no matter what I do, I can get rid of the haze. Any suggestions my friend? Thank you so much in advance.. I used Isopropanol alcohol and also tried screen cleaner.
Make sure that you use a completely clean microfiber cloth. I clean them regularly, and wash my hand before I touch them to avoid any grease / oil contamination. Maybe that was the source of the problem. I would recommend to try to clean of the lens element with a clean cotton bud with alcohol to see if it can remove the haze.
@@CamerasLensesEtc Thank you so much for replying. I have some sealed microfibre cloths on their way to me along with some Zeiss optical cleaning fluid. Should be here to day so will update once I've had another try. Best Wishes, Chris
@@CamerasLensesEtc * UPDATE * All stripped, ad cleaned with Zeiss Optical Cleaner and K&F Concept, individually wrapped microfibre cloths and it's perfect No smears or haze whatsoever. Thank you again for an awesome video and your advice earlier. Till the next one my friend, be safe & regards from Cornwall, England :)
Thank you for the informative video, however i also have dust at the second group, i removed the trim and 3 screws but the lens doesn not come off. Please advise if it has to be dismantled from the rear mount.
I guess if you don't have that, you have to buy it. As I have told in the beginning of the video you can find the links to the tools I used in the description of this video. Anyway, if you don't want to buy it, then you can use a thick (drinking)glass which diameter is the same as the ring, and put small striped of double sided adhesive tape on it for grip.
Hi, the screws on my lens are very tight. I’m using a screwdriver with a small grip and it slips. Is it just a case of getting a longer screwdriver with a larger grip or do they need some sort of lubricant? Thanks in advance!
Good learning from your this video, thank you. Can you please do the similar video for Nikkor 200-500 F/5.6 lens, especially for front element removing for fungus cleaning?

I'm from Brazil. Thanks a lot for making this video. I'm going to clean my lens with your help. Thank you very much .

Very impressive video. Great production values augment your skills. Any of the procedures improve my rather stiff zoom functionality?
Not likely. You would have to disassemble the lens almost completely to check which part is causing the zooming problems.
I have same problwm
Thank you very much for your sharing! This Vedic very informative!

I think the 83mm would work. I bought the full set, and one of them was the perfect size.
@@CamerasLensesEtc I think it might work too. I bought the full set as well, not cheap, but great quality. Thanks for replying.

Thank you very much!

You might use a suction cup to lift up the lens element.
Do you have a video where you disassemble the whole lens?
I don't have a complete disassembly video.
Hello, how do you lubricate thw zoom ring? Sylicone in spray or teflón?
Generally, I use fine mechanic grease to lubricate parts in the lens.
What's that PROFESSIONAL gray cylinder shaped tool? No body has that.
I guess if you don't have that, you have to buy it. As I have told in the beginning of the video you can find the links to the tools I used in the description of this video.

Maybe I can 3D print it.
Hi, the screws on my lens are very tight. I’m using a screwdriver with a small grip and it slips. Is it just a case of getting a longer screwdriver with a larger grip or do they need some sort of lubricant? Thanks in advance!
I don't use any lubricant, but make sure that the head of the screwdrivers fits perfectly in the screw, otherwise it damage the head of the screw.
Thanks very much for your helping videos. How can we open a Sigma Contemporary zoom (sp. 100-400mm, I have the Nikon F version), on the rear side?
I haven't disassembled that lens, so I don't know.
Fantástic vídeo. Thanks!
You're welcome, I'm glad that my video has helped!
Hi, what is the grey tool you used for unscrewing the front lens?? I really need that.. Thank you for your video and kindness!
It is a lens opening tool, link is in the description!
Good learning from your this video, thank you.
Can you please do the similar video for Nikkor 200-500 F/5.6 lens, especially for front element removing for fungus cleaning?
I don't repair Nikon lenses, so it is very unlikely that I will have a video about it.
Hello, i am trying to disassemble front element of a nikon 200-500mm f5.6 lens. Please let me know if you have tips for this lens. Thanks in advance.
I haven't had that lens before, so I don't have any tips.
What is the size of the lens opener?
I don't know, I don't have the lens anymore. I bought the full set of the lens opening tool, and one of them was the perfect size.
Do you know how to repair focus motor failure? Focus confirmation works fine but no autofocus movement
I don't think that ultrasonic motor can be repaired. If it doesn't work, then it should be replaced with a new one.
@@CamerasLensesEtc thanks for replying. Stabilisation also does not work. Still a good lens for manual use
