One of the best Masterclasses in my opinion! FP's not trying to oversell himself, and his simple approach to mixing just makes him so much more humble hahas :D
+Luke Allison I would like to listen to your voice! share tracks maybe to see if we like each other's style and see if we can come up with something up?:P
In 3 years of trying to make music and watching countless tutorial videos this one summed everything up pretty damn well and then some. I could have watched this and saved three years of watching tutorial videos. This is why Flux has been my favorite artist since age 12 and why he has influenced me so much.
love this...I like the fact that there are still unnamed tracks on the project like 'audio 1' or whatever and he hasn't tried to hide it for the interview...and he doesn't hide the fact that he has used standard drum presets because they just WORKED for the overall sound he was aiming for and all they needed was a little compression and transient shaping.... its a REAL project like what would be on a 'normal' hard working bedroom producers screen... very cool, humble guy who makes great music....and i agree with other comments about how he doesn't oversell himself and he just lays it out for a change... Thanks for a refreshingly honest insight....MORE OF THIS PLEASE!!!!
+C.J. “ChainJaxx” Lee because many artist bootleg their own stuff so that the fans that don't have the money or don't buy music will still get the music. Its the best way to stay relavent
Always loved Flux, been a fan for years - great to see his creative process! Love that bit about... "my sounds are kind of crap, but its how I try to harmonize them"...that's gold right there... all about the groove
The best producers are the ones with a passion to make what they love, not the people who know every technical aspect but disregard the heart of music :)
Flux doesnt get the complete recognition he deserves. He Is such an amazing producer and, from what I see, an amazing person. Humble , skill, passion, what more can you ask for ? 0
Wow, just realised the way he talks about his music is the same way I might talk about a piece of writing or a piece of graphic design work. Eg "I tend to increase my white point to give it that crisp edge, but here I actually used a gradient layer mask to keep it subtle."
Total legend for doing this, not a huge fan of dubstep or some sub genres of of it should i say , but can really listen to someone who knows what hes really talking about when it comes to production.
Pierce Hintz Yeah, they both sound awesome, but I think I like the Must Die! remix too. I actually heard it first though-- and when there's a great song, and it has a great remix-- most of the time, whichever one I hear first ends up being the one I like better. Idk if I'm the only one who that happens to or not lol.
Man this guy is cool as fuck, created a fantastic, unique style AND he's made some absolutely legendary tracks Gotta take care of your body as well Flux. Live long plz.
it's possible and you can get away with it, just as long as you clean up the mud the reverb brings in. The universal way to do this (in any daw that is) is to do a new project with a full wet reverb on the master, hpf the low end 200+ hz (or however sounds best). Bring a dry (pre compression/not fully mastered) version of the master in another track and bring up the reverbed track underneath it. EQ reverb to fit it best and there you have it.
Any idea what pitch shifting plug in he uses? I have Logic's and Waves pitch shifters but sometime they can do a really horrible job of transposing. The resulting audio can sound really crappy...
I love VR but he is not ahead of FP when it comes to making toons. Def with synthesis and technicality, but as far as songs and structure and arrangement, hell no. He's getting up there though
Most amazing song of 2015. Love this break up track. But why does everyone get the lyrics wrong, It's "Cutting off these strings" not " Coming off these streets".
Flux you say to put a limiter on... but when i put my limiter on it makes it so you can't even hear the drums... plus when i put songs on my DAW say like a diplo song it was in the red... plus i was also told that Ableton allows the users to go into the read without clipping
If you put a limiter on and you can't hear the drums, your mix isn't right. I'm not judging- I struggle with the same thing. Don't be afraid to get a mix, limit it, then fix the mix into the limiter a bit. Limiting changes things. Also, if you slap a 44.1khz mp3 into a 48khz or above DAW session, it's going to clip because of the difference in bitrate, not because it's pushing past 0db on the master :)
why whenever I see professional producers in any DAW, the sequencer is always full of audio files and not the original midi input? do they bounce all the midi parts they use and then re-import as audio? or bounce multiple channels/parts and then re-import as audio on to one channel? what's the point? should I be doing this? :)
You can do a lot more with audio clips, and midi keeps you 'stuck' with just midi. If you bounce the midi to audio, you can see the waveform, chop the audio, reverse, pitch up/down, etc. Also, it makes you make decisions. Don't worry if XYZ is perfect. Bounce it to audio. Tweak it. Bounce it again. There's no rules, and the more you tweak and bounce audio, the more original your sound gets. You should definitely be doing this :)
One of the best Masterclasses in my opinion! FP's not trying to oversell himself, and his simple approach to mixing just makes him so much more humble hahas :D
Yeah but have you seen his pants?
Pat Walsh no what about em? xD
+Bryan Lee love them/want them
+Bryan Lee Yep. A straight up, no bullshit approach to production and composition. Totally respectable. Good guy.
I've found myself watching many track tutorials lately and this was the most enjoyable and methodical. Killed it.
+Luke Allison Boom!
Man, I'd love to do with Matthew Coma does. That'd be so much fun.
+Luke Allison What's stopping you?
Absolutely nothing. I'm writing currently. :) Hopefully you'll hear my voice in a track soon.
+Luke Allison I would like to listen to your voice! share tracks maybe to see if we like each other's style and see if we can come up with something up?:P
So enjoyable to listen to him!
+elendil6668 Glad you like it

Yus!
Straight up Thanks FP*
Somebody get this man a bigger table..
Huge songs made on a tiny table lol
I'm never going to listen to this song the same again.
love this...I like the fact that there are still unnamed tracks on the project like 'audio 1' or whatever and he hasn't tried to hide it for the interview...and he doesn't hide the fact that he has used standard drum presets because they just WORKED for the overall sound he was aiming for and all they needed was a little compression and transient shaping.... its a REAL project like what would be on a 'normal' hard working bedroom producers screen...

+Chris Beddows thats cause other producers are broke talentless hacks. and when you watch them create something its uninspiring
Hahaha! "Download it on bit torrent" lol
What?
+C.J. “ChainJaxx” Lee because many artist bootleg their own stuff so that the fans that don't have the money or don't buy music will still get the music. Its the best way to stay relavent
+Geoxor hey
Whoknows lol hi xD you found me again!
+C.J. ‘ChainJaxx’ Lee this dude is awesome
+Nathan Kestner No excuse to not learn the stuff though. As you can see he knows a lot of the technical aspect
AMAZING!

Sir Flux Pavillion Amazing!!! Have a nice day
Your tracks are amazing!!!!
Very emotional yet groovy..
Good confidence yet humble!
Happy new year thanks for teaching me a lot in the past year hope to learn more in this year too.
I enjoyed Flux when he came to Lollapalooza a few years ago... but now I have a new found respect for this dude. He knows his stuff.
good vid to start the year...
Definitely best Masterclass ever!!!!!
Lots of soooo many sick tricks in this. Flux is such a pro!
Flux doesnt get the complete recognition he deserves. He Is such an amazing producer and, from what I see, an amazing person. Humble , skill, passion, what more can you ask for ? 0
16:30 for some professor shit. mindblown. the last 5 min are also equally amazing, thank you PB. fucking overflowing with inspiration right now
He's a genious, and huge inspiration!
I love how brutally honest he is, dope producer !
I only saw a short interview of flux pavilion a long time ago. He's actually quite funny. Glad I clicked on the video
Wow he's so down to earth! Loved that Masterclass!
Wow, just realised the way he talks about his music is the same way I might talk about a piece of writing or a piece of graphic design work. Eg "I tend to increase my white point to give it that crisp edge, but here I actually used a gradient layer mask to keep it subtle."

Some great tips for shure ... so cool to see how flux pavilion work ... thanks for the vidéo
I like that LFO envelope / long attack idea, it does give the waveform an evolving sound rather than just a stagnant, constant sound.
Watching this stuff is so helpful
What an amazing song, It so nice to see how they make the song. Thanks and keep the good work up
I honestly like the Must Die! remix more than the original, but it's really cool to watch FP go through this and see how he does things.
Pierce Hintz Yeah, they both sound awesome, but I think I like the Must Die! remix too. I actually heard it first though-- and when there's a great song, and it has a great remix-- most of the time, whichever one I hear first ends up being the one I like better. Heard the Virtual Riot remix?
so humble such genius
This was awesome. Now get MUST DIE! in to talk about the remix. :)

Oh man. That was one detailed video
wicked video !!!
supersympathic guy. awesome masterclass
Love from India!
I don’t make dubstep or particularly care for dubstep but this was a good video for me to watch and I make hip hop. Salute!
most people would get shot if they put reverb on the master :p
It's pretty common actually. Kind of an oldschool technique, but yeah, it's on countless hit records. More of an ambiance thing really.
it's possible and you can get away with it, just as long as you clean up the mud the reverb brings in. Best tute ever
I'd love to see a masterclass with MUST DIE showing how he created the remix for this track!
Nice!
Inspired now :)

Masterclass with Illenium would be amazing
"download it on bit torrent"-flux pavilion 2k16
I like "soft cushions". They're pretty comfy.
21:14 Ozone's vectorscope felt emotional
This old man sounds so young. Music keeps him young i guess.
BOSS!
Beast
Get Joker on point blank masterclass to show his production of his album the mainframe.
Just gonna go ahead and say that fab filter pro c is an amazing compressor
+IM Wercs it is. Love and light loves it as well
I've been looking for his production analysis for this song.... what a deeply moving track....
5 stars...
Any idea what pitch shifting plug in he uses? I have Logic's and Waves pitch shifters but sometime they can do a really horrible job of transposing. The resulting audio can sound really crappy...
And here boys and girls shows why you don't need to be Virtual Riot to make a good song.
+Robert Forella but i think Flux is at the same level as Virtual riot
WTF flux pavilion is at the same level that virtual riot, they two are fucking good producers
virtual riot is ahead imo
I love VR but he is not ahead of FP when it comes to making toons. Def with synthesis and technicality, but as far as songs and structure and arrangement, hell no. He's getting up there though
Uhm... Noisia.
dat ozone screen. I haz learned alot
Most amazing song of 2015. Love this break up track. But why does everyone get the lyrics wrong, It's "Cutting off these strings" not " Coming off these streets".
21:47 Did he just say he was 19 when he made Bass Cannon? I always thought he looked a lot older!
Love the name "Do Arps dream of electric Arps ?"
Masterclass with !llmind or Mr.Carmack would be dope
+TripleMTmoney carmack would be my dream
MaTaNhy mines too that guy crazy with his melodies and drum patterns and he would be up to do a masterclass like this cause he do it all the time
No Carnage Fattener on the Master?
Would have made it so very much more thumpier....
Flux you say to put a limiter on... but when i put my limiter on it makes it so you can't even hear the drums... plus when i put songs on my DAW say like a diplo song it was in the red... plus i was also told that Ableton allows the users to go into the read without clipping

where hi get this sick drum kick?
Its not sound so vengeant.
dac clip ftw
lol
Also is that a deep ashtray with ~50 roaches? holy shit
Most amazing song of 2015. But, why does everyone get the lyrics wrong, It's "Cutting off these strings" not " Coming off these streets".

why whenever I see professional producers in any DAW, the sequencer is always full of audio files and not the original midi input? do they bounce all the midi parts they use and then re-import as audio? or bounce multiple channels/parts and then re-import as audio on to one channel? what's the point? should I be doing this? :)
