I never saw this movie before( i’m now 67years old) but i like it !!! This is music to dream on the good old days !!! More of this please ??? ❤❤❤😂😂😂😊😊😊 L.M.
I first saw this movie on TV in 1990. It’s still one of my 10 favorite movies. They were excellent musicians.
Being 25 I love reading the comments. Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey have been favorites of mine thanks to my great Grandparents. Yet still, how can you not see this is beautiful music and apart of the American national identity and culture. Oh Marie at 1 hour and 12 minutes was one of my favorite scenes. Thanks for sharing. God bless
I had a dear friend, saxophonist Skeets Herfurt, who was a member of the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra from 1934,through the infamous Dorsey brothers breakup in mid 1935,until he left what was,by then, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra,in mid 1937.He could have told you many truthful and accurate stories about his days there.Skeets left Jimmy Dorsey in 1937 to take a chair on alto sax with brother Tommy's band where he stayed until 1939 when he left to join-and be part owner of-the Alvino Rey Orchestra where he also played lead alto and sang.I've seen this movie numerous times and found it fabulously unreal:it concentrated more on Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey's bickering than it did on their respective talents. Also many other prominent musicians they worked with were left out such as Benny Goodman,Glenn Miller and the singers who were made famous by them:Frank Sinatra,Jo Stafford,Jack Leonard(Dorsey's original boy singer)and Edythe Wright who was TD's original girl warbler.I'm surprised they included Paul Whiteman-they left out Detroit bandleader Jean Goldkette who was the first name bandleader they worked for.
Herfurt later became a member of Lawrence Welk's orchestra.
Fascinating! Thanks
👍🏻
Very interesting, detailed intel and facts. Thanks
before. my time. 1950
Fueron uno d los músicos más talentosos d esa época. Los recordaré siempre con respeto ,. profunda admiración y gratitud.
Extraordinary archive, Dorseys orchestra, one of the very best ever! Thanks a lot from Paris France and take care!
Loved this movie! One of my very favorites! They don’t make music like this anymore. Thanks for posting😁
Quick note about the Dance Hall scene:
First song- "Everybody's Doin' it Now," an Irving Berlin composition from 1911
Second song- "When You and I Were Young, Maggie" a folk song composed by George W. Johnson and James Butterfield from 1865.
I saw this in 1967 when I was in 6th grade playing the trombone. Played the trombone for 7 years and now at 67 picking it up again.
To Me was a great song and still is. Great film.
I really love that song but i can't find the original recording
@@maxz617 if youare looking for an original you need to look at 78's, thatis what there originals are on. Longgiene Syphonet (Spell?)
The king of jazz is Satchmo Armstrong. That being said this is a lovely movie. Not a dry eye in the house. A real tear-jerker.

@@bluezodiac6329 ...They called it race music.
Older musicians told me the brothers did have a sibling rivalry and the "stop the bus" stuff was real.
That's one opinion. It's music, not a pissing contest.
TOMMY E JIMMY DIRIGIRAM DUAS DAS MAIS CÉLEBRES ORQUESTRAS DA ERA DO SWING E CONTINUAM MUITO ADMIRADOS ATÉ HOJE!
ENTRETANTO, DAQUELA ÉPOCA, O BAND LEADER QUE SE TORNOU UM DOS MAIS CÉLEBRES ÍDOLOS DA MÚSICA POPULAR MUNDIAL ATÉ HOJE FOI E É "GLENN MILLER"!!!
UM AUTÊNTICO CULT COM MILHÕES DE ADMIRADORES POR TODO O MUNDO!!!
54:00 Art Tatum. The best pianist ever!
Great music plus the fine singer Janet Blair❤
I’m watching this for research for a essay
Be aware there's more fiction than fact in this dramatization of their lives.
Tommy’s was the more driving band for most of their Careers....
charles miller His temper was legendary. It spilt over into his band.
Thanks!
very enjoyable
Спасибо !
I still can't get over you coming up here without mom! How's she doing?
Better than I am I hope!
Gotta love Janet Blair!
Did you know this movie is 33% compressed. UA-cam does that when you upload. My latest movie is 53% compressed. We convert them to HD, and UA-cam reduces quality.
don't know who she is but she has a beautiful voice and face.
Originally released in February 1947.
19:02 When I first saw this, I was hoping Mrs Dorsey would take that other woman out back!
Apparently the Burton character was fictitious & the ending song "Dorsey Concerto," was composed by Leo Shuken

19:00 there always has to be a Karen or two
This is the second time recently I heard this "Karen" mentioned. Who or what was Karen? Somebody accused me of being a Karen because he didn't like my frank comments to his posting. Please explain Karen.
@@Jeff-uj8xi as the movie described the characters referred to - they are officious busy bodies buttinskies
There IS only one thing worse than being Irish, and that's not being Irish!
39:20 Ugh. A travesty. Sounds NOTHING like Paul Whiteman.
Awful french translation
