100% NEW TOOLING
A-10C is the U.S. Airforce’s deadly, low-altitude, close-air support attack aircraft. The A-10C or “Warthog” is highly maneuverable at low speeds and has short take-off and landing capability. Many of the A-10C’s parts are interchangeable left and right including the engines, main landing gear and vertical stabilizers making it serviceable from bases with limited facilities near battle areas. The model canopy can be assembled open or closed and ailerons can be positioned up or down. It includes eight weapon pylons on the wings, three on the fuselage and an array of armaments. It also features precisely reproduced Aces II ejection seats and three U.S. Air Force decal markings.
Armaments include:
2 x Aim 9M
2 x AGM-65
2 x GBU-54/(V)B Laser JDAM
2x GBU-12
2 x LAU68 Rocket Launcher
1 x AN/AAQ-28 Litening Targeting Pod
1x AN/ALQ-184(V)1 ECM Pod
The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat, twin-turbofan, straight-wing, subsonic attack aircraft developed by Fairchild Republic for the United States Air Force (USAF). In service since 1976, it is named for the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, a World War II-era fighter-bomber effective at attacking ground targets, but is commonly referred to as the "Warthog" or simply "Hog".[4] The A-10 was designed to provide close air support (CAS) to friendly ground troops by attacking armored vehicles, tanks, and other enemy ground forces; it is the only production-built aircraft designed solely for CAS to have served with the U.S. Air Force.[5] Its secondary mission is to direct other aircraft in attacks on ground targets, a role called forward air controller-airborne; aircraft used primarily in this role are designated OA-10.
The A-10 was intended to improve on the performance and firepower of the Douglas A-1 Skyraider. Its airframe was designed for durability, with measures such as 1,200 pounds (540 kg) of titanium armor to protect the cockpit and aircraft systems, enabling it to absorb damage and continue flying. Its ability to take off and land from relatively short runways permits operation from airstrips close to the front lines, and its simple design enables maintenance with minimal facilities.
The A-10 served in the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm), the American-led intervention against Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, where the aircraft distinguished itself. The A-10 also participated in other conflicts such as in Grenada, the Balkans, Afghanistan, the Iraq War, and against the Islamic State in the Middle East.
The A-10A single-seat variant was the only version produced, though one pre-production airframe was modified into the YA-10B twin-seat prototype to test an all-weather night-capable version. In 2005, a program was started to upgrade the remaining A-10A aircraft to the A-10C configuration, with modern avionics for use with precision weaponry. The U.S. Air Force had stated the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II would replace the A-10 as it entered service, but this remains highly contentious within the USAF and in political circles. With a variety of upgrades and wing replacements, the A-10's service life can be extended to 2040; the service has no planned retirement date as of June 2017.
Academy has been for a long time one of the best model companies on the market and this kit certainly does not disappoint.
This looks fantastic - I am amazed by the one piece rear fuselage and engine moulding. I haven't built models for years so that is a new one on me. Like to see you build this bad boy Chris! It would look cool displayed next to a Flying Tigers P40B.....
If there has ever been an airplane I've wanted to build it IS this one. I call it the gunship. Some day maybe I shall. TY 4 sharing Chris
If you don't build it make it a giveaway!
Academy should scale that down to 1/72, to replace their current 1/72 A-10 kits. 😁
I have the 1/72 scale version! Great video!
Cool, thanks!
That looks like this one very detailed kit Chris are you sure you can get it together in two days I have faith in you 👍👍
I would also love to see a build of this kit Chris but I imagine you would have to do part 1, part 2, maybe even a part 3.
I was in the National Guard in the 80's and almost every summer we went to Grayling Michigan for the 2 week training. It was a common sound to hear them fly overhead and hear the BRRRRIIT! from it's gun's.
Beautiful detail on that kit. 👌👍
This looks awesome! Thanks, Chris -- I'm going to check this out on the weekend.
Not surprised it's out of stock already.... This old man will be getting one.. when he can find one. LOL. Good unboxing video! Keep up the great job.
These Are The Rambling Of One Grumpy Old Man! ... 😉
Went there. Sold out. Great video Chris keep em coming I'll keep watching.
Your local hobby shop or online retailer should be able to grab one. MRC says they have a third shipment ordered, the first two are already spoken for.
8:25 = 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
This was always my favorite plane growing up. Nice Kit
Oh, so cool!
The word "pitot" is pronounced "PEE•toe". It is an early French innovation. The French were early aviation pioneers, inventing the "aileron", as an alternative to the Wright brothers' approach of "wing warping" (twisting the trailing outer edges of the flexible airfoil on their early aircraft designs and prototypes).
That's a nice looking plane, thanks for the review.
WOW! Even the part numbers on the sprues are clearly raised.
I have been waiting for the A10 on your channel. Please build it Chris.
Coooooool kit review 👌. Thank you 👍
Would love to see you built it!
It will be an amazing kit when built. Thanks for the review, Chris!
is this kit better than Tamiya A-10 61028
First
Nice unboxing. It looks like a well engineered kit. Thanks for sharing.
