I think your model looks fantastic. Just a note from an old modeler who has been building for over 50 years, each kit is a learning experience. Keep it up. As far as the paint in the corners being gritty, add some reducer to your airbrush that will help. The thing on the side of the fwd fuselage is a pave penny designator . They don't carry them anymore , hence the four bumps resembling the left over bolts. Which is a nice detail actually. Great job.

Thanks for your video, your model looks fine and you’ve provided some useful advice for when/if I get around to building my Academy A-10C. Like you I was excited after seeing the early unboxing videos and straight away placed an order for this kit, it’s good to see how well it actually goes together. Despite the issues you’ve shown us it’s clearly possible to turn out a good looking model.

Nice job dude, it came out pretty cool! Just as a bit of A-10 trivia: that pylon and sensor on the nose is the Pave Penny target spotter thingy. the four bumps on the fuselage that dont reach the holes in the pylon are what it looks like now that the Pave Penny is no longer in use. It has been replaced by the Sniper targeting pod under the wing. those bumps are the covers to the mounting holes that secured the pylon to the fuselage. the holes in the pylon as you have them now would be bolt heads in real life. Anyways it still looks awesome, i look forward to seeing more of your videos!

I've built this kit. It really isn't that bad. Most of the problems he mentioned weren't there for me. The only real problem I had was a gap where the fornt part of the fuselage meets with the back part. It was very easy to clean up with some masking tape to ensure I didn't mess up the rivets

Great call my friend, I on the other hand bought it. I'm on the first two sections (about a dozen parts) and I want to throw it in the bin! Badly fitting parts, poor instruction, I hate it - I do this stuff because I find it one of the most relaxing of hobbies but with this kit my stress levels have gone through the roof. I was so looking forward to building this and now couldn't give a fig what it looks like when it's finished - assuming I get that far of course!

thats nice ,advice about the paint when it get textured and generally to give a nice surface finish to your models ,find some fine metal wool 0000 ,i personally doing the complete model with that and makes super fine surface plus models looks more real because it makes the matt finish a bit shiny just enough like the real !

I applaud your ability to be painfully honest when mistakes happen, we ALL make mistakes as we develop our skills, this says a lot about what kind of many you are and will be. If you’ll accept my advise, I just want to say that never let a person get to you when they say aggressive things, they’ll be dealing with things a lot worse than what you could do to them. Always hang around people that aren’t whiners or confused about their sexuality, AKA; brainwashed. If you think your family members don’t care about you, it’s not that simple, they think of you daily and hope you’re happy and have hope for your future. You’re a lot more intelligent than the average person so avoid idiots and find friends that start conversations with words like; “I have an idea”, this will build your self confidence is doing a project you love.
    Keep doing great things!

1:05 on certain parts you decided to go out of sequence from the instructions, but for A31 and A32 you decied to follow the instructions, if you've gone out sequence you'd seen the slots for them staring at you on the back of cockpit tub @1:30. You'd have assembled the whole seat without those pieces, put it in the tub so you could align A31 and A32. 17:15 A-10C stopped using the pave penny targeting pods, but some still had them attached depending on timeframe. The four bolts on the side of the fuselage are not locating pins, they're supposed to be there when the pod isn't attached. Same for the four bolt holes on the side of the pods plate are not locating pin holes either. The inside of part A1 had two flashed holes that you drill out and line up with the two true locating pins in the pod that you sanded down @17:35

Once its on display, all those imperfections only we know about dissapear. Every model, its a lesson learned (you said it yourself👍) Only tip i could add to the mix. Try some locktite fun-tak putty to hold pieces in place while dry fitting sections (and a large tupperware to store work between sessions). Overall, great job my man! Keep the hobby going strong!👍🤘

The "stupid antenna thingy" is the Pave Penny laser targeting thingy for later guided munitions. And yes, it does seem remiss of Academy to foul up such a simple attachment. The slide moulding for the rear fuselage is a pretty nifty piece of tooling, so you think it simplified the overall build?

  • @simonmowatt
    @simonmowatt 4 місяці тому

That nose pylon attaches to the fuselage via two holes drilled out in the early steps of the instructions. With the pilot, I had to file down the instrument panel to fit him in. I'm busy painting my A-10 now and have left off basically all the pylons, tail and engines to paint separately - with so many nooks and crannies in this aircraft, it's easy to get paint pooling.

Great model and detail!! Actually, the fuel tanks aren’t combat rated, in that they aren’t self-sealing and a hit could prove disastrous. They are the same tanks that have been in use since the A-10 was first fielded. The tanks are only used for deployment or ferry flights and would probably never even be flown with live munitions loaded on the jet. I am a former A-10 pilot with over 2500 hours, many while assigned to the same squadron as depicted on the model.

Nice job on that kit.I was listening to what you had to say on some of the fit issues and those are some easy fixes.Just by sanding the edges on most of the parts you can and will find out that you will end up having to use less putty. Also you will not have to sand as much.If you have a magnifier and look at most of the join areas before gluing, you will see a light beveling of the edges. It is not much but light and I mean very light sanding helps a whole lot to the point in that you will have less seems to fill or sand.

Hi there! Here is the film gear I used for the final results montage:
Camera: Blackmagic Pocket 6k camera amzn.to/3GijvPv
      Lens: Sigma 18-35 F1.8 amzn.to/3UdkBBQ
Camera Slider: Syrp Genie One amzn.to/3U72pK3 + Magic Carpet amzn.to/3zzqvn2
Equipment is a bit expensive but I really wanted to invest in it so I can make better videos. Hopefully the quality of my content gets better with this stuff. Thanks for watching!

The 1/72 A-10A kit is a piece of garbage... I'll never order any Academy kit again. Every single piece was misshapen and no two pieces fit together. Gaps everywhere, the cockpit wouldn't even fit in the fuselage, and sssoooooo much sanding. I almost broke it so many times getting pieces to pop together even after sanding a ton off of them. Total waste and a huge disappointment for my first kit. Funny thing is despite all the reviews praising how great it was, one review really stuck out to me. The guy said he had to do a crazy amount of sanding and that there were still gaps everywhere. I kind of brushed it off because almost all the reviews were 5 star positive praise. I should have listened to my gut.

I almost forgot. The instructions do not help at all. Very vague and some pictures even show parts backwards or in different places in different pictures. Academy sucks and has put me off buying anything at all from South Korea. Their company alone has soured me on any product from the entire Country.
