    At age sixteen I purchased a well used 1958 Triumph TR10, left hand drive for the American market. It looked much like the Standards of that era. My father and I pulled the little head on the 958cc engine and had a valve job done. Drove it to high school and first two years of college. Would I have rather had a muscle car? Sure, but the gas mileage was fabulous. The car set me back only a hundred bucks plus the valve job. Many fond memories of my first car.

    Richard, Firstly thanks for the shout out on the channel. I have the Viart book myself and it‘s invaluable but seeing it done is the cherry on the cake lol. My content must really suck as i‘m lucky if i get 300 views on my XK 150 roadster restoration videos, I‘m not good with computer so the editing suffers and i guess my content and the way i‘m shooting the footage is what work i am doing at the time. Some tips would be most welcome. Cheers Dave

    Great work again,from UK.
    My 1957 FHC that i've owned since 1976 has original wiring with lots added on! It's all a bit of a hack but that's how I'm keeping it. Runs on a 3,8 Mk.10 engine that I pulled out of a breaker and rebuilt. I once lowered the metal dash too low and caused a terrible short melting the ammeter,beware. I'm still +ve earth with a 35 Amp/Hr.Lucas dynamo out of an old Princess 4 Litre R, less power steering pump. I have a big 12v battery in LH/NS wing. I have also added a Lucas Master switch inside by rerouting the power supply to solenoid. That way I always isolate the battery when not used. I have a fused trickle charge connection under the bonnet for easy access. I recently added a 500 amp inline fuse just after the battery supply just incase. The starter draws 420 Amp. I keep the car on the road economily which is part of the fun. (Bit like your 'junk E Type')

  • @EliteRock
    @EliteRock 3 роки тому +2

    I'm hooked (again - the 'scrap' E-type did the same, and BTW I commented at the time that the motor was likely to be a lovely smooth thing with the original crank journals and pistons, was hoping to see and hear more of it!). This is an exceptionally nice 150 in every sense, the body/chassis was in great shape anyway and with your uncompromising ethic it's going to be a stunner.

    Firstly Mike, you are a very good mechanic and restorer. Very. On a different note just look at the relatively little plastic and so on they used back in the day compared to the huge amounts of not recyclable items used in just one vehicle today. We have enormous engine covers, faux woods and carbon fibre panels, insulation material extra aero dynamic panels and more. The good thing about modern cars and trucks is that we now use water based paints , but that is about as far as we go. Love the loom work BTW.

    Hi RMO, NZ viewer here. Loving this.
    If I was the owner of this car, I would have a full video documentary of my restoration. It’s going to add even more value to the car when it’s finished. I’ve no idea how much this is going to cost when it’s all complete, but it’ll be worth every cent. And I will be following this every step of the way, can’t get enough.

  • @abraxasracing
    @abraxasracing 3 роки тому +5

    You could try sailboat rigging tape to wrap the wiring into a unit. It would protect the wires, keep the strays from snagging, and it only sticks to itself so it's easy to remove after with no residue.

  • @Laurent-Raggos
    @Laurent-Raggos 3 роки тому +2

    I like very much the way you restore this car. It's a perfect job, done with love and passion. The new wiring harness is a pleasure to look at, done as they were in the past with fabric instead of plastic. Also, for the gauge and counter illumination, I like very much the idea to replace original incandescent light bulbs by new ones with the LED technique. They will not only last for long but also, they will deliver a true white light which is not the case with old incandescent lamps. These produce rather a yellowish color. As I saw, gauges and counters have a blue filter for the illumination. With these LED's, you will get a very nice blue light. May be you'll show us how it looks like during night driving. Thank you for your extremely interesting and high quality videos.

    Superb headliner there.
    A trick to get the wiring harness trough the narrow hole is household stretch film, wrap all the ends into a single bundle which is easier to thread trough the holes as you're not struggling to get all the single cables trough the second hole.
    The film can be removed easy and doesn't leave glue marks as tape would do on the cloth mantle.

    • @woopimagpie
      @woopimagpie 3 роки тому

      That's a great tip!
      A plumber mate taught me that when joining rubber hoses for washing machines and dishwashers and so on you often have to make different size hoses fit together, so a smear of silicone sealant is often required to ensure a leak free join. If you then wrap that join in cling wrap it allows you to feed the hose into its home without having to wait for the silicone to set, otherwise the fresh silicone will want to smear itself all over everything it touches as you feed it through. It also allows the hoseclamps to run smoothly through and not snag. Of course that same trick works on cars as well with the rubber hoses, but I'd never thought of using it on wiring harnesses. Brilliant.

    Hi Richard, Once again, a great presentation of the XK150 rebuild. I have exsperianced the same problem with the rear light plinth rubber gaskets on both the XK and the E-Type, either the mould is too small or some serious shrinkage takes place. The boot (trunk) lid gasket I think is the wrong way round, it should have the longer side set into the corner, so having the shorter edge over the drip channel when closed. A brilliant job you are doing.

      @MichaelKingsfordGray "Bulkhead" is definitely used in the UK as the whole assembly. I agree that individual panels were referred to as "firewall" or "cowl" panels. Many Jaguars were exported to the USA so not surprising that a mix of terminology has been used.
