My mother has an XR that's 5 years old and still has 85% battery health on the original battery. The phone works flawlessly. Another family member has an 8 Plus that's still functioning good. They're not tech oriented people and don't care what phone they use.

It's not an iPhone, but i have been using my Samsung s8 sibce release in 2017,so its about 7 years old now. I have no reason to upgrade

It depends on your use case, if you need it to just communicate, it should be holding up pretty good

You’ll probably have to replace the screen eventually too which can cost $199 like it was going to for my iPhone 11. I upgraded to a 14 because I already replaced the battery once, replacing a screen and a battery, I’m better off upgrading.

still using iPhone SE first gen. I got the 13 pro max at release but sold it and got a MacBook Pro M1 Pro 16 inch instead

@@emilsecker7881 What you mean? My phone has lasted 8 years, my laptop is 1 year old and I got it for 1300 usd, brand new 1tb ssd and 16gb ram. It has an amazing screen, speakers, battery last hours and can do a lot of things. This thing gonna last forever or until I want to get something newer.
it’ll last as long as you want it to last, i used an iphone 6 up to last year 😭 then i switched to a 15 pro max, which im still using now, and probably will be for years to come
my iphone 12 pro was going strong until I had to replace my battery, and of course I wanted to do it through apple for $90 bucks and they messed up one of my volume buttons, so they gave me a refurbished iphone 12 pro and within 3 months the wifi chip got messed up on it and now they have to replace it again with another refurbished one which sucks, I took good care of my original iphone 12 pro, whoever gets it will get a good iphone 12 pro unlike this one I got.
Hopefully they fix it.

The iphone 15 series have a 1000 cycle battery endurance as opposed to iphone 14 and before, which had 500. That means you probably won't need to change your battery until 4-5 years with the 15.
@@avishekgarai1250 could even be longer if they’re rating those that high. My 13 has 88% health at almost 700 cycles and 2.5 years. The battery still gets me through the whole day easily

It’s not true that slower performance is due to a degraded battery. I had Apple install a new battery and it made no difference to battery life on my iPhone X.
What was the health at before you replaced the battery?
@@QueLaFe About 82% of battery health. A new battery has made little difference. The battery is like a countdown clock it goes down so quickly.

I’m still using my iPhone 11. It’s about to hit its third anniversary of use and the battery is still at 88% health (89% if I am to believe coconut battery). I’m not a heavy user though. It still does absolutely everything I ask of it and I expect to get at least 2 more years out of it (probably with a new battery at some point). I think if you are not chasing any single novelty that comes out, you can expect a long lifespan in your iPhone. I personally don’t care about AI on my phone so I’m perfectly happy with the new features I’m getting out of iOS 18 (particularly the home screen customization and the better integration of reminders with the calendar).
I had a iPhone 6s and the camera is still amazing considering it's age, i still use it for calling and it's works just fine.
I just got a 15 Plus today to replace my XR I’ve had since the 11 came out. It still works well, but the battery drains quickly being at 81% health. I was debating replacing the battery in it, but with the trade in promotion Verizon is running now it didn’t cost me much more to get the 15 Plus. My first gen iPad mini still works to this day, as well as my 9.7 Pro. I’m liking the 15 so far, it has a little more screen size with little penalty in size or weight from the XR. It looks slick in black and I put it in a Smartish Grip Zilla case in the “Graspin’ Aspen” style, and it’s a great case if you’re looking for something non slippery. It almost feels like spray in bed liner material in the hand.
I'm using my nephew's iPhone 8 and it still working fine even though the battery starts to degrade

Using the original SE in 2024. I just keep coming back to it. 2016 phone with a 2015 SoC. Kinda ridiculous.
I am going to upgrade my iPhone 14 to the new 16 but I keep my iPhone 11 and run a lot more on it that I won’t use my 14 for. It’s going to get iOS 18 and it’s still a fast phone so the battery is degrading but the performance hasn’t taken a hit so far

I’m using the iPhone 6s, I had it for 3 years, and its on death row right now, freezes, can’t use multiple apps due to freezing, crashes, battery die super quickly, get hot really quickly. Apps don’t open as fast but super slow. These updates ruins your device.
You should’ve upgraded last year
My iPhone SE from 2016 still works. It does not get the newer IOS 17 updates but still security updates for IOS 15.
i’m still using my iPhone xr from late 2018, it’s still okay, but the battery died really fast, probably less than 4 hours of battery life if im on it consistently, and that’s just youtube or messages, if i try and play something like warzone mobile it’s less than an hour 😅. And charging it too i have to raise chargers a bit, it still works okay tho but definitely time to upgrade later this year

I’ve had an iPhone 8 Plus since July 2020 and the battery capacity is at 73% but I have plans on an upgrade to a 15.

5:16 THIS literally my friend didn't know how cheap it was to replace their battery. Like they didn't even believe me of how cheap it was (one of the reasons may be because I'm not an iphone user myself lol)
my Iphone 11 pro max is only 5 years, I do replace the battery (it was 69% estimated life left), I just love my phone and my time enough to replace battery but not really need it. It work just fine on latest os version, no lag and nothing else is broken
my only concern for old devices is the banking apps how secure would it be? i don"t have problem using an older device
Unless you‘d lose your iphone it would be just as secure as the new ones, apple pushes security updates up to 10 years.
However if you were to lose your iphone, it would be easier to break into for someone who found it.
I‘d say update every 5 years or so if you want to keep your data safe

The ipad i bought in 2018 is still going well except the design is outdated. Battery is still decent & everything works well despite a cracked screen
im still using my wife’s iphone 6 for web browsing, netflix and youtube. for games, its a big no
as for my wife’s old iphone 11 which she bought upon release, yes it is still working fine as if itnis a brand new phone.

🤔 this makes me curious too. I have used 3 samsungs (s note first gen (2012-2017) and J series (2017-2024) now using A series, J series is still working but wonky battery. Thinking about using ios too, but i am not sure about the longevity
If you don’t care about having the latest software features, the longevity is decent

I'm still using my 2016 iPhone SE and it's my main phone that I use for everything and I still have a working iPhone 4s which was my back up phone until I got a note 9. Now I have a 12 mini but I still use my SE for my day to day and just use my note 9 and 12 mini for phone calls. Why I use my se more is because I have my Fitbit set up on it and it's small enough for me to use quickly on the fly and put it back in my pocket but the fact that it still holds up and runs all the apps I need to use says they last longer than 5 years.
You forgot to mention the 6 Plus with touch disease

IF taken care of properly, ANY iPhone will last until the latest software outstrips the capability of the phone hardware. That translates to 4-6 years depending on software upgrades. If software upgrades--except security patches--are NOT an issue, there is no significant time limit for how long an iPhone will last...
It seems like an iphone will last a life time with battery replacements.
The only downside is not having new updates after so many years and upgraded features of a new phone.
Im a bit behind with a 7plus. Thinking about upgrading to iphone 13 soon.
The quality of the 7plus is just great to where i dont feel the need to upgrade but i do want a bigger storage and i guess a newer quality phone in general.
With samsung and google now offering 7 years it would be foolish for Apple to offer anything less than 8 years of updates. Also security updates are offered for around 8-9 years on iPhones.

My 8yr old Xiaomi Redmi 4 running Custom ROM called e\OS with android 13 running smoother compared to Laggy MIUI. And Im watching in it now😅
I know it’s objectively true to say that the 15 is lesser because it’s not going to get an update that I really should, but I’d honestly say not having some useless AI garbage at this point could damn near be a feature itself 😅

2:45 small correction apple intelligence will come to all iPhones. Expect the processing happens on device with 15pro and 16 series. Where for rest of the phone it happens on cloud technically feature exists but with work around

Have you heard about “Private Cloud Compute” on WWDC?
Technically all iPhones are capable to get this feature without security compromise.
This Apple intelligence though on device processing needs iPhone 15 pro and onwards, but we can tap into Apple intelligence using Private cloud compute from every other iPhones technically, correct me if I’m wrong

Even the supported device, uses AI in two levels either on device or though cloud if the on device processing isn’t capable to deliver. Then all other iPhones can simply rely on cloud private compute for its AI capabilities and the SoC need not be a hindrance in this route. To simply put its similar to googles stadia cloud gaming, which delivers irrespective of the hardware
But the real question is, will apple implement this ?

As an iPhone 15 user the best thing to me about Apple AI is that it's not gonna come to my phone. I was really happy when they said that my phone wont support all of the useless, annoying and creepy AI fakery features. I can't stand all this AI hype going on right now and i really don't need any of that in my life. Guess the iPhone 15 will be my first phone that i will be using for more than 2 years. Probably until it becomes really obsolete in like 4 or 5 years and by that time i really hope that the majority of people got sick of AI being shoved down their throats as well and that companies start to move away from AI, even though the chances of that happening are slim.
If companies in 4 to 5 years, when my AI-free iPhone 15 becomes unusable, are still putting AI everywhere, i swear i'm going to turn my back on smartphones once and for all and get myself a dumbphone instead. I really don't have to use and support a product that overstepped boundaries.

2-3 years when the battery hasnt degraded? 😂 iPhone batteries have been documented to degrade close to 20% by the 2 year mark with moderate use. As much as Apple fan boys hate to admit it.
