Awesome Knife.Reminds me of the Hudson Bay! This would be a Great camp/survival knife. I'm sure it'll do awesome in the kitchen chop[ping vegetables and butchering meat. All with average shop and farm tools!!!! Nice job man!
a pretty knife, i made one of CK60 Steel in similar style 5mm thick and i've done everything with no power tools now i feel sad of making "just" a photo series and not filming it. keep up the good work!
+william nix I't is very pleasing to make a tool that is completely functional and, its someting you can use for a life time. I wish you the best of luck. Thank you for watching.
This seems like a fun project. Is it possible to do this if i dont have a drill press or belt sander? Also, how long does something like this typically take? Im guessing 30+ hours
Beautiful, awesome knife! This is your second video I've watched, the first one made me a subscriber. I have a similar setup in my shop, small grinder and a lot of elbow-grease. Your videos definitely inspire.
Nice. You are obviously new/amateur at knife making (don't take that the wrong way) and have done incredibly well with simplistic tools and methods. Way to see it through to the end with all the steps the pros take. You have talent in this game. Once you get a real boy's belt grinder your bevels' will come out super clean, use a filing jig if a serious 2x72 isn't in your future. Literally your initial bevel being slightly uneven and your heat treat not being ideal(put that mofo back in the heat for a bit after non magnetic.... until you get precise heat treat methods) you did absolutely boss on this thing. Using a typical store bought angle grinder and some other basic tools you did and amazing job, (don't forget your file) keep up the good work. Please don't be offended by my criticisms, I'm only trying to help but I assume you know your faults(only in high dollar tooling) and will soon make some seriously amazing and professional knives.
+bigdmcc Thanks for the view and the constructive criticism! I love some good criticism. I am fairly new to this but I love It. I've been looking in to replacing my 1x30" with a 2x72" or a 2x42" money is just not there yet. I also would like to have a File beveling jig but not about to spend hundreds on one. This is just a hobby I do in my shed in my free time. as for the heat treat I do wish I hadn't "jumped the gun" but I worked the handle was still soft a bit closer to the Ricasso side than I like but i'm not worried about It. Thanks again for checking it out! I'll be working on my game and making more videos!
Nice work. I am working on a similar knife made out of 1095 and I was wondering what temp did you get the blade up to before quenching? and Was that an aluminum arrow you used for the handle pins?
+rockclimber747 Thank you. about the Temp I not really sure what temp It was because I use coal. I just checked it in the fire with a magnet after not magnetic I got the color a little more orange then quinched
+MrTomtebloss Thank you! That is very true. It is a great feeling to make something with you own hands that you can have use for a life time. I love doing it very much.thanks for watching
Nice.....funny thing is, I am making my first knife and I have it at the cutting it out stage. I am using 1075 1/4" thick as well. Making a big chopper. Our tools are almost identical, so it was nice seeing someone go through what I am just now starting. If possible can you tell me what type and where to get the drill bit? Thanks brother! Eric M. High Point, NC
Just asking, why do you temper? Is it made from manufacturer not tempered? Also what is used (chemically) in the etching process? Great knife. Easily a $200+ knife.
+amurican35 Thanks for watching! after quenching the metal it is really hard and brittle so you must temper it to soften it up so it wont crack and shatter. when you buy from a place they send it tempered to be verry soft so you can work it more easily. hope this helps
+David Andelfinger Hello! It is really simple and, most of the stuff used is common household items. I'll try to do a tutorial video with my next knife. There are a lot of detailed videos out there for this particular method. I tried something with this knife that I haven't seen In videos yet which is applying gun bluing after the etch to blue the recess making the logo dark and stand out bare metal. I may try to add annotations on this vid explaining a little bit about what i'm doing. Thanks for watching!
Awesome build! Thanks for letting us look over your shoulder throughout the process. If you don't mind my asking, at what angle did you have your work table set? That 1x30 did an amazing job in my opinion, a lot of fight in that little dog! 👍🏽 Be well.
Very nice. I could not even come close to producing something like that. That being said, I gotta wonder, why didn't you make the blade the entire length of that blank of steel? Seems like a waste.
+havocwrench thank you! yeah I've been trying to scrape together some materials to make a kydex press with still need to find good foam. thanks for viewing!
+kyle hagerman Thanks. the liquid that the cotton swab was dipped into was vinegar with some salt diluted into it (about 4fl oz of vinegar with about a maybey 2 teaspoons of salt) thats really all you need. the blue bottle Is gun bluing I add that only to make the logo a bit darker for contrast. you don't have to though. Thanks for watching!
+kyle hagerman I use "Birchwood Casey "Super Blue" I got it at gander mountain. you can get it at most gun stores. you can also order it from online knife supply companies(such as Jantz supply). super blue holds up nicely unless deep scratches occur. Inside the etching groves it is not as likely to be worn on and should last for a very long time.Keep in mind bluing will not stop it from rusting.
+Jeremy Rodriguez thanks for watching yeah I like it to its a song for free on youtube. I do know. I just prefer the lanskys sharpening system. thanks for watching

Great vid and awesome knife! Btw is that just a cheap charcoal grill and some bricks you're using as a forge?

Nice job mate. You should be pleased with that.
+gamerathebrave Thanks you.
Nice work! I use those quick grip clamps in school! :)
+Raven Thanks! I love them. They are very, very, useful.
Yeah they are, but sometimes I don't clamp them down hard enough and then my wood ends up moving when I'm chiseling...
Hi,
how did you do the etching? It looks really simple and efficient. Maybe make a vid about it? I would love to see how you did it.
+David Andelfinger Hello! It is really simple and, most of the stuff used is common household items. I'll try to do a tutorial video with my next knife. great vid! using tools that I own myself. I will be referring to this vid again in the future when I make my knife. Thanks!!!
I like the knife design and the size where did you get the Metal from?
+Aubrey Heathcote Its a free youtube song called believer by silent partner.

+Bradman Dutton Thank you! Its a great feeling!!
Well Done, one like from Brasil for you!
How much? You are the best knifemaker I've ever seen.
dude great job, hope to see more of your work!
awesome craftsmanship =]
Very nice. I could not even come close to producing something like that. That being said, I gotta wonder, why didn't you make the blade the entire length of that blank of steel? Seems like a waste.
maybe he didn't feel like doing the extra forming and stuff
Great job and thanks for documenting it in every step (except when the camera died) :) Good work though, do you sell your work?
beautiful knife, great vid. need to make a vid on making a sheath of leather or kydex
+havocwrench thank you! yeah I've been trying to scrape together some materials to make a kydex press with still need to find good foam. thanks for viewing!
This is one of the best videos I ever see! great job n nice video, thanks 4 share! :D
+Nicolas Danelon Thank you and, Not a problem! I very much appreciate it! Thanks for viewing.
What a talent.
I had to laugh at some of your demos when you smacked that twig and it did nothing... but seriously what an artistic presentation at the end..nice!
+Chris Sproles yeah lol the other part of the branches kept coming back and hitting me in the face but i showed them! lol. thanks for watching!!
I like your highly sophisticated jig
+Dylan Lewis hahaha. I had a team of mechanical engineers work out the design for it. Thanks for watching!
+asimmons913 took two people to make my jig
Bravo.. Question though. On etching your logo into it what was the liquid you dipped the cotton swap into also what was in the blue bottle ?
+kyle hagerman Thanks. the liquid that the cotton swab was dipped into was vinegar with some salt diluted into it (about 4fl oz of vinegar with about a maybey 2 teaspoons of salt) thats really all you need. the blue bottle Is gun bluing I add that only to make the logo a bit darker for contrast. you don't have to though. Thanks for watching!
+asimmons913 good to know. Thank you. Where can we get gun bluing from perhaps like where is is usually sold ?
+asimmons913 does the gun bluing fade over time or does it seal n dry in there to help keep it darkened ?
+kyle hagerman I use "Birchwood Casey "Super Blue" I got it at gander mountain. you can get it at most gun stores. you can also order it from online knife supply companies(such as Jantz supply). super blue holds up nicely unless deep scratches occur. Inside the etching groves it is not as likely to be worn on and should last for a very long time.Keep in mind bluing will not stop it from rusting.
I love the video an music. Did you know you could of used the central machinery to sharpen the knife?
+Jeremy Rodriguez thanks for watching yeah I like it to its a song for free on youtube. I do know. I just prefer the lanskys sharpening system. thanks for watching
Good build, well done.
+richwaldo Thank you.

+Glen Lovelace Thanks! I appreciate it!
