Some criticize Monolith's decision to have Pyra and Mythra be revived at the end, but as you mentioned, their character development isn't about them no longer being afraid to die -- it's about them no longer being afraid to *live.* It's only appropriate that the game concludes with them doing just that.
Cool but they had an entire scene where they acted like they were dying. Either they were just straight up lying and holding up the whole party during the evacuation, or MonolithSoft was just too wuss to kill off a character. Either way, it's bad writing imo, and ruined what could've been a great ending
@@dugtrioramen That statement aggravates me greatly, I get that it is kind of controversial if that is good writing or not, but I can never find a single thing that I agree with in these arguments. Pyra and Mythra had no way of knowing that they would be revived like that, and I am fairly certain through the later part of Xenoblade 1 and what happened to Vandam that MonolithSoft is not afraid to kill off a character if it is good writing. Pyra and Mythra went through the whole game to only value their lives at the very end, and to see them get a chance to live longer and them embracing it fully with a smile is what truly made the ending amazing and unforgettable to me.
@@JJJSmit9026 Definitely agree. One Last You is basically a prayer, with Pneuma begging The Architect to let them see Rex at least one last time. So Klaus, as the regretful man he is, fulfilled Pyra and Mythra’s wish with the little remaining power he had before disappearing completely, which is such a good contrast to Zanza from the first Xenoblade, that was the complete opposite.
@@dugtrioramen 1. She didn't know that she can be revived nor what will happen if she dies... She may be the Admin at that stage of the game but she barely knows what powers it can provide or the limits especially if she need to quickly decide what to do in that moment... 2. Lying is stretching it a bit too much since that's the perfect moment to make such twists and give suspense to the players and as a way for Rex to grow even further (Letting the love of her life do what she can to save the world)..
Adding onto Mythra creating Pyra stemming from her insecurities, is that Pyra finds her own insecurities. Showing the player that no matter who you are, even if you try to create the perfect version of yourself, you won't be, and in the end, that's ok. As long as you keep at it and try to forgive yourself, be okay with who you are. You will find happiness at the end of the tunnel.
I always saw Pyra’s “birth” didn’t happen by choice but more as a mental breakdown. Mythra’s shock from unleashing her power uncontrollably, the following destruction, seeing Milton dead & then getting pushed away by Mikhail in fear completely broke her
I agree. When watching the cutscene in Torna, it seemed like Pyra formed as a byproduct of Mythra’s screaming and release of emotion. At the very least, it could have been a subconscious decision that manifested rather than a deliberate act by Mythra.
This actually can happen to people in real life. It's called Dissociative Identity Disorder. It is usually caused by childhood trauma, and is similar in a lot of ways to how Pyra and Mythra work. (Though the switching on command is apparently uncommon)
@@Cool-Vest Yeah, I've also heard that the "alter" is basically indistinguishable from the "real" person, since it's a defensive/protective mechanism. I read a post by a guy whose roommate had DID, and he didn't realise he was talking to the "alter" for a while until the "original" suddenly asked how long he'd been gone. But, yeah, pretty cool for them to put this into a game, and I like how tastefully they treated stuff like disorders and trauma.
Mythra has so much trauma from destroying half of Alrest pyra is like when humans develop alternate personalities due to trauma.. you're right it just happens
Which makes sense because people can mentally change. Like people after war. they come back, but they are not the same afterwards. Which is whats happening here
I never get the hate this game gets. People are like... Big boobs = Bad game!! Xenoblade 2 is my favorite game personally. It's really well written and deep.
If you don’t tear up when Rex asks poppi to fly him over to pneuma and she tells him she can’t…. You might be dead inside. Then again when poppi is the first to run over and jump into hugging them when they come back at the end. I bawl like a baby every time
no i feel you when poppi told him he can't that was the first time i felt geunine anger and regret when playing a video game. i wanted to just pause the game and rewind back to before the boss fight. i was cursing out monolithsoft at the game's credits and i felt so elated when they came back. xenoblade is the type of game series where if you don't cry at least once per game you don't have feeling
@@abdulshowa7170 ok I cry every time I play a xenoblade game, especially in 3, but pneuma at the end there, that, that broke me as a player, taking the choice away from the player felt wrong but in a good way if it makes sense? Like the powerlessness we have over certain situations
@@abdulshowa7170I didn't cry in the first time I played Xenoblade, but cried a lot in the second time, even though I already knew what would happen. I am weird And when they are fighting Dickson, it was different feeling, my body was hurting as if all that was happening was really true and not just a videogame, and that was the third time I was seen that
I love the way you describe your favorite scene in the game, where Rex convinces the Aegis girls to keep living. It get glossed over by so many other scenes that might be a bit flashier, like Mythra's first appearance. I live for this sort of thing lol I wish I could show someone this video without spoiling the story because it'd perfectly convince people how deep the characters are. Also! I haven't ever heard someone put it to words, but you're totally right. The way Pneuma sacrifices herself at the end hits so much harder because she has found a reason to live. Before, she was ready to do it and it wasn't exactly easy, but it wasn't as big of a deal to her.
@@xanderscut With regards to the part about people hating Tsunderes, it's mainly because of people are just sick of the same character trope being used as well as being constantly force and made to accept the character as the best girl or best character to the point of exhaustion by fans and supporters of the character. There's also the unpleasant and sickening amounts of hypocrisy committed by fans and writers saying that people won't give Tsunderes a chance when these people don't even give other character types a chance. For instance the moment Mythra appeared and her personality reveal, people automatically just had to go and award her the status of best girl or best character, brushing aside Pyra and such actions and choices are not limited to Xenoblade Chronicles. This is most certainly going to be cause and a recipe for hate. It's really nice to see someone show appreciation for Pyra and Mythra. Honestly, they are some of the best written female characters in video games. There's so much depth to them that it's absolutely amazing how much detail Monolithsoft put into their story and I don't just mean in cutscenes. The side-quests, heart-to-hearts, and post-battle dialogue do even more to show how Pyra and Mythra have changed and brought out a lot of their personality which is always nice to see. Now I will say Mythra is completely misunderstood especially when it comes to Rex. She cares about him deeply, but she is pushing him away out of fear. Afraid to trust him and get close to him because he is the first person to see her as a person and not the Aegis and she has no idea how to respond to it. He made her happy. I love seeing the connection that Rex and Pyra and Mythra forged and I'm glad that they can be happy now. They deserve to live a life full of love and happiness. Thank you Rex for being their light. Great video!
@@xanderscut You're very welcome! This was a great video and there's so much more to love about Pyra and Mythra. I talked about them in a tweet I made specifically for them and Rex and I really just wanted to express what made their connection so meaningful and special and how Rex really was as they put it a "gift of light". I Really loved how Rex was so supportive, devoted, caring, and just seeing how he could make them smile with true honest words and a genuine smile was so heartwarming. He managed to challenge everything about them with positivity and true optimism. They really bounce off one another so well. More than anything and this applies to everyone Rex met. He truly brings out the best in everyone around him he manages to banish the darkness in their hearts and fill it with light. He was a gift of light to everyone and I really admire him for that. For him, Pyra and Mythra deserve all the happiness and love in the world. I hope we get to see them again.

Something to add that Mythra inherited of sorts from Addam, his emotional side. When Tora and Tatazo reunited, and she cried, let’s be real Addam would 100% shed tears at that XD And so did his blade :3 On the Pyra side, my fav little moment upon replays was when she and Rex visited the grave and Rex introduced her to his parents as “my new partner”. The little gasp of surprise followed by genuine happiness was incredible.
Pyra and Mythra was the best thing for me in Smash I'm glad Xenoblade Chronicles 2 got representation but I didn't understand the hate they got when they got revealed most of the people I seen who criticized them were people who didn't play XC2 I'm glad I came across your channel ☺️
It’s mostly because people want the big, third party characters to be the ones added to Smash. When there is a character that you really want and there is only a finite number of slots, when it’s used up on a first party Nintendo character from a game you’ve never played, it can be disappointing. While I didn’t express it online, I was disappointed by the inclusion at the time of the reveal. Thankfully I do appreciate their moveset, and I’m not bitter or anything, and unlike Byleth, it makes sense to have added them. Plus I did get Sora, so it’s harder to complain about parts of the roster that don’t excite me. I’m not saying that this justifies going out and bashing fans of a character, more just the mindset of someone who wasn’t thrilled with the inclusion of Pyra/Mythera.
Damn... I didn't knew how much backstory these characters had. I am glad they were included in smash and I am glad that I was able to learn more about this incredible game
I still cried when the discussion about the ending came up. God, I adore this game. Chuggaconroy's Xenoblade 2 playthrough was responsible for getting me into Xenoblade, causing me to put well over 100, sometimes even 150 hours into DE, 2, and now 3. I would say that, to an extent, this game changed my life. Pyra/Mythra and Rex are easily my favorite canon pairing of all time, and now I spend too much time on fanfics about them.
I remember getting to the end of the game, and I was so sad. I thought Pyra and Mythra were gone forever. I was so happy when I saw the core crystal blinking and jumped off of the couch punching the air and screaming. I was in a call with my friends and they were really confused what I was screaming about but I couldn't express to them because I was so happy. This was a great video and I hope you make more great content like this.
Fun fact about that moment that was pointed out to me. Those little particle things raining down at the ending? Like, a second before the Crystal glowed you see one of them go Into the Crystal, and that’s when it reactivated. Very lucky for the Aegis gals huh? XD
If there were a video I would show to the number of comedic geniuses on Twitter rolling out the classic “LOLOL Pyra/Mythra fans when they try and explain why their booby waifu is a compelling character” it would be this video that I would show to them. Not like spoiling it would ruin anything for them, that’d require them to play the game and evidently they wouldn’t dare do something so… so… INFORMED! That said, this video was excellent and I think you’ve put into words better than I could, why I love these characters. The heart and soul bled through the entire video and I appreciate the efforts taken to illustrate what about Pyra/Mythra is so compelling.
I appreciate the comment so much. Proving all those Twitter clowns wrong was definitely part of what motivated me to make this, I’m glad that I could accomplish even a fraction of that. Thanks you for the watch!
One of my favorite parts about xenoblade 2 is how they gradually open up, especially mythra. She goes from being cold to Rex a lot of times, to where after he accepts them she is nothing but warm to him the entire time. Seeing this trio grow closer and having there relationship develop made pyra/mythra and Rex my favorite characters in not just xenoblade but all games in general. And the ending where they lose the one person who they value more than life was absolutely heartbreaking. Then seeing the ending of xenoblade 3 where they got the happy ending with the man who they loved and having the life that they never thought they deserved. Seeing the end of chapter 7 sold Rex for me. Although I did like him throughout the game, post 7 made me love him. As he valued their lives more than his and they valued his life more than theirs. At the end of the day they became each others elysium and seeing that new Home Screen with all of them holding hands is just so wholesome as they’ll be together in happiness forever. Absolutely fantastic video, I look forward to seeing more content from you
Thank you so much for opening my eyes around Xenoblade 2 and I guess the entire Xenoblade franchise. I remember watching Chugga's playthrough of the original Xenoblade and liking what it had to offer but I never really got into it. When 2017 rolled around and everyone was raving on about how good it was, I wasn't really interested in it because I was too immature or stupid to understand rpg story telling past Zelda. 2020 rolls around and everyone including my friends are talking about and playing Xenoblade remastered and I left it thinking it was too long or not for me. After watching your video I feel like going and getting the game because of how well you articulated the beauty of the game. Really great video and I hope it catches on because you did a great job. :)
Such a kind comment! I really hope you enjoy the Xenoblade franchise. The games have done so much for me, and are really some of my favorite experiences in gaming. I hope you feel the same.
Yeah, that was a real shame. I just got my own copy of Smash Ultimate last week, along with the second DLC expansion (since I already had the first one), and Pyra/Mythra is one of the characters I use the most.
Yes! So much yes! I agree with basically everything you've said here. This video was honestly so well produced, and I wish I was able to express my own thoughts on these characters even half as expertly as you were able to. Great job! Even though I've played the game probably 5 times now little details like Prya's design being slightly more asymmetrical than Mythra's to convey her incompleteness and imperfection have still managed to escape my attention. You've done such a great job of analyzing every aspect of these characters in this video. And yeah, it get's so annoying hearing people constantly talk down on Pyra and Mythra, or just the game in general, just because of their designs. If you don't like these characters or Xenoblade 2 that's perfectly fine, just please don't try to invalidate someone else's opinion on the game by writing it off as 'fan-servicey garbage' and dismissing the entire fanbase as a bunch of creepy perverts or something. We're all adults here. *P.S* You deserve more subs. There's no justice in this world. :(
This video made me cry countless times, this game is my favorite game of all time, by far and to see such a excellent piece about both of these characters is wonderful
Thank you for this video. I'm a survivor of military SA. I know what fear of harming people over my own trauma feels like. I'm also a mom and my marriage was falling apart all at the same time. I never got to finish the first game but watched the ending when my ex-husband played it and loved it. So when I finally saved and bought a Nintendo switch for my children, I also snuck a digital deal for this one in a few weeks later in an after Christmas sale. The amount of crying and processing I did cannot possibly be overstated. The burden of trauma and trying to be tough but then playing this game was so confusing but it made me embrace therapy which was pretty much a requirement from family at the time. I also *hated* when sexists and feminists could not stop talking about Pyra and Mythra's clothes. The only time I had trouble in the game was when Dalia pushed me off the titan spine with her giant ones during battles. That was it. The critics just didnt even *try* to listen to a poignant and VERY female story of femininity, vulnerability, strength, and power. The sexist and feminist dismissal on social media for this game is a main reason I didn't embrace therapy for so long. I could be broken and helpless but nothing else. No one wanted to hear how strong I was. But the writers in this game and the two greatest characters in any game did. And it made a huge difference in my life. This remains my favorite video game to this day and I think it helped me change the direction of my life.
Wow, thank you so much for the thoughtful comment and for sharing your story. It always feels like such a privilege to hear how this game has effected others for the better. So glad you enjoyed!
Everything you said at the ending was true. I actually learned about Pyra and Mythra just by playing Smash at my friends house, and I thought they were fun characters so I looked into their game and it seemed interesting. Got the game because of the story, and I'm glad that was the mindset I went into it because I got everything I wanted and more. Since playing it, I'll pretty often see people saying often completely unfounded claims and insults to Pyra, Mythra, and other characters like Rex and I'll be honest it sometimes makes me feel like I'm weird or that I'm somehow wrong for liking the game. But then I remember that these are all people who have probably never even played the game and are literally just judging the book by its cover, and also that it shouldn't matter to me what they think anyways because I know how good this game really is and I'm allowed to enjoy what I want to enjoy. Currently in the process now of trying to convince all of my friends to play Xenoblade, have had some of them tell me they think it looks "cringe" or whatever, but I'm convincing them :)
Probably easier to get them to start at 1. It gets basically no flak despite fiora having some rather large chesticles. Dunno why folks complain about one and not the other but whatever.
after thinking about mythra, pyra, malos, rex, and jin, i understood that this game xplains the existence of role model characters better than any thing i have ever seen, and not just that, it tailors them with western phylosophy and makes them tools of the "coming of age", its a fking masterpiece
Master piece 🙌 You summed it up so well, I also get sick of people dismiss them, just because they have big chests. Some of the most satisfying character arcs in a game and 1 of very few pieces of media that can get me emotional. Well done!
This was such a well-written video. You did a great job presenting all of your points. I feel like I have an even greater appreciation of Pyra and Mythra and Xenoblade 2 as a whole now because of this video!
I really like how you explained all of how i felt the first time when i played this amazing game. Even in my second round those feelings were the same as the first time. The part where she's caugh by Malos and Jin was really rough for me and i just leave everything aside and i went straigth to rescue her. I have never cried with a movie, a videgome (untill that), or even in my life i dont use to do that easly... That scene and the final scene of Pneuma... I couldn't beare that, i just simply cried. They're my favorite characters, no only from the game but from all, Pyra mainly. Thank for the video, you've explained perfecly well how did i felt.
Yeah, honestly I wish he'd gotten some slightly more coherent dialog. Oh it was good, the emotion, the thrust were there. But it was sometimes like the actors either didn't quite understand English, or didn't have enough context when recording. That said, and fight me if you want, I liked the dialog on XCX way better.
@@mrandmrsduquette1904 it's not the voice actors or even the dialogue that were the problem in this case; it was the voice direction. The actors weren't given any real context to the lines they were saying, nor were they able to hear the voices of other characters to play off of them in realistic ways. That's why so many lines come across as stilted as they do. The voice actors did the best they could with what they had to work with. Skye Bennett especially, as well as David Menkin (the voice of Malos). But man... Rex just can't scream like Shulk can.
Amazing video mythra and pyra are two wonderfully amazing characters, and xenoblade chronicles 2 as a whole is an amazing game. I am currently playing the game again, and all the memories of the first time I played it are flooding back. xenoblade Chronicles 2 is perfection mythra and pyra are amazing characters
I agree with this essay so much. Though my first intro to the Xenoblade series was the BoTW sidequest, some of my favorite gaming characters in history are in this game (Mythra, Jin, Malos, Lora, Brighid, Gramps) When Pyra and Mythra were announced for smash, I was so happy that I thought I would cry. but when I went to see other reactions to the reveal. I was shocked about some of the negativity for the aegises. people were angry because the artstyle seemed anime like and that they were waifus. thx for making this vid i really appreciate it. I just wish this series was more popular. i feel like this is one of nintendos underrated franchises. I'm just adding this but a video that is negative about pyra and mythra is flipside reviews. about %25 of the comments are hate on pyra and mythra. and like u said us fans are so sick of people being shamed for liking these characters and people saying negative things about them even without any evidence
Monolith Soft said that people complained the characters in Xenoblade X being very stiff. So they felt they had to make the XB2 characters feel more expressive. The artist for this game, Masatsugu Saito also did Rakuen Tsuiho: Expelled from Paradise.
I didn't play Xenoblade 2 as a game, but I watched all of the cutscenes. All 15 hours of main game cutscenes and all 3 hours of Torna The Golden Country. The ending where Rex realizes that Pneuma is going to have to sacrifice herself to save the world and then by a miracle both come back is the only time I've ever cried during a piece of film. I'm not a very emotional guy. I joke that I cry once every 7 years, and while that timeline might be closer to every 3-5 years, it's still not often. I didn't cry at the end of my favorite video game when I finished it (play CrossCode y'all, the story is as good as this game). I didn't cry when my grandma or my aunt passed away either. But when Pyra and Mythra had to go, I was definitely crying. These characters are amazing, but given it's been 2 years since I watched the cutscenes, I kinda forgot just how good these characters are. Jin is another one of my favorite characters, but at the time I watched it I wasn't in a very good place, so now that I'm in a better place, the Aegis are such amazing characters
God damnit man, I've played through this game like 9 or 10 times, and everytime I see the last cutscene it manages to rip a few tears from my eyes. I really don't cry much but for some reason even seeing the last scene in a video essay still chokes me up without fail. The video was amazing, thank you for making this breakdown of two of the best characters.
I only found these characters when playing Smash Ultimate. I have no idea why, but I liked them instantly. The fact that there's such an awesome story behind them is truly incredible. I have no clue how, but I seem to have a nack for finding good characters and stories. I've been doing it since I was a little kid and apparently I'm still good at it. These characters and their story is amazing and their creator is a truly incredible person to be able to do this kind of work.
Fantastic job on this project GPS, I know I said this a lot during the premiere but it’s just the truth. I really hope more people start appreciating how special Pyra and Mythra really are. Thanks a lot!
This randomly getting recommended to me was the greatest gift I could have asked for. It's nice to see this video. It's as you said at the end, the negativity around them is from people that haven't played the game, and it's nice to see that the people that have love them as much as I do
This video is amazing and I can confirm that we can definitely feel the passion put into it. What I find fascinating is to see how opposed Pyra and Mythra are in their strenghts and weaknesses. Of course Mythra is clearly the strongest of the two but when you pay attention to her verbal interactions with Malos, especially at the end of Torna, you can see she often doesn't have something to oppose to him beside fighting because no matter her skill in combat, she's still mentally fragile. Malos easily takes advantage of that to break her mind. Mythra destroyed him physically in the end but you can clearly see that Maloss won over her mind. It took 500 years for Malos to heal from that but it took as long for Mythra to find a confident state of mind again. On the other hand, if you compare it with Malos and Pyra interactions. Malos always takes the physical advantage over her but when she talks she's nowhere near as affected by his mind breaking words as Mythra is. She even takes the decision to self destruct to show to Malos that no matter how physically strong he can be, he will not take Rex and her friends lives because she has a way to submit him to her will. She already knows she's not strong enough but she found the strenght to be compassionate, to support the ones she love and to move forward no matter what, accepting an helping hand from others. Mythra created this other self for the purpose of locking her powers but I like to think that it's thanks to this weakened, emotionally more opened and opposed personality that is Pyra that she succeeded to heal her mind in the end and to unveil her true ultimate form which is Pneuma. She learnt how to appear welcoming to others through her as we can see after the fight against Malos where Mythra is awakened and where she uses Pyra to convey her emotions because she's not confortable or skilled with that. Different skills, different strenghts and weaknesses. Even if many won't know how well written their character is, Pyra and Mythra are in the game at the end of the day and Sakurai knows what he does. Maybe this decision will push some to try it. Also when you know Monolith Soft's contribution for many Nintendo titles, you know that one more character from their franchise is well deserved.
I wish I could have seen this video when it came out. This video is absolutely incredible. Unfortunately so many people will never even give this game or the characters a chance. Amazing video for an amazing game and amazing characters. Thank you for your fantastic analysis and I'd say you definitely did the game and it's inhabitants justice!
I'm really glad that someone did this I would love to send this to people who throw out the dumb claims about Pyra and Mythra but I feel like that'll ruin the experience of Xenoblade 2 a bit Guess I got to think of some other way
MAN, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, PYRA AND MYTHRA ARE MY FAVORITE VIDEOGAME FEMALE CHARACTERS. This is an amazing video, it portraits perfectly why we love Pyra and Mythra so much. Of course both (and Pneuma) are an Eye Candy, however they are amazing and endearing, the smiles we have to protect. That's why both (and Nia) being married with Rex makes me so happy, because they finally found a reason to live, and after losing people like Lora, Haze, Milton and Addam, they finally have a family where they are loved for what they are.
Man, I do hope my voice/comment reaches you. I am absolutely grateful for this video. Your passion bled into my soul. Pyra, Mythra and Rex are probably one of my most beloved characters in video games or even in all of fiction. I resonate and empathize with them on so many levels. Seeing you talking so highly of them and so passionately at that, gave me tears of joy and sadness every few minutes into the video. I needed this video at the point in my life that i’m in right now. We all have an Elysium to go to; and we all somehow regret the past, bearing painful memories. All we need is to believe in ourselves, and walk our path, pushing through alongside the ones we love. I wish you all the best, and I hope you, too, reach your Elysium.
Wow I was not expecting such a sweet and heartfelt comment! I’m so glad you could connect with the video on such an emotional level, it brings me so much joy knowing it impacted you in that way. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you’re going through right now, thanks for everything.
Thank you for this great video. I love the character writing in the Xenoblade games and Pyra and Mythra are probably my favorite characters in the whole series. You pinned exactly down why I like them so much. I subscribed to your channel and will watch more videos, keep up the great work!
honestly I love Xenoblade 2s characters. and many people I know who love 2 don’t really like Pyra which is a shame because she has to be one of my favorite characters from the franchise if not my favorite
There's a lot of stuff I never even realized(that seems so obvious now) or had forgotten about over the years. Thanks for making this. It only solidifies my love for XC2 even further, somehow.
Thank you have making this video. Pyra and Mythra are my two favorite video game characters of all time. I learned quite a bit from this vid. I need to replay thru xb2 once again since it's been a while.
i'm not gonna lie, i decided to play xenoblade 2 mostly because my main in smash was the aegis. i loved xenoblade 2, even going in without much expectations. it's been a while since i finished it, but thank you so much for making such a good quality video about pyra and mythra. they're so much more than everyone who only plays smash makes them out to be and i'm so glad to have found this video summarizing everything i felt. thank you for this, really 🫶
How I needed this video. Especially since XC2 is being so unfairly Stepped over by XC3 now it is the new toy. The amount of care and respect you show towards them brought a tear to my heart. Thank you so much from the bottom of my soul. Know I love this game and both characters just as much as you. Have a great life!
Thank you for making this video. I love this game, and I adore these characters. The way you analyzed and explained their story, personality, and their growth and change, clearly shows your sympathy and understanding. This is something that a lot of people lack: they jump into conclusions, and hate them with no good reason, no arguments, nothing. They just say "big anime titties" and criticize their clothing. It is so sad that they don't realize how amazingly written and how complex these characters are, simply because they refuse to listen and open their minds. It pains me that this game, with this amazing music, story, world and characters, don't receive the respect they deserve. XC2 was my introduction to the series, nedless to say I fell in love with it, and 2 specifically will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for this video and for doing my favorite characters, Pyra and Mythra, justice ❤️💛.
32:29 Chapter 7 is literally the one part of the game where I beelined the main objective without doing any side content lol, Monolith really knew how to bring out that sense of urgency. Amazing character analysis btw, XC2 is my favorite game and the Aegis girls are a big part of what makes its story so special to me. It makes me happy to hear someone else put into words why. Huge agree on your favorite cutscene, Rex's speech about not letting the world burn twice is so beautiful. The Tomorrow With You is such a good music track. And it makes me even more happy to think about how many other people feel the same way. No matter how toxic certain communities may be, we love this game, and that is something they can't take from us.
I have never cried at a videogame or movie until Xenoblade 2. It broke me at multiple points. I have never been so emotionally attached to a cast of characters. Thank You Monolithsoft
Why Pyra and Mythra are great characters? Because they exist. Simple as that. Jokes a side (Or was it a joke...?) I am glad you did this video. I've seen many people hate on these characters because "ThEy HaVe BiG BoObS!" Hopefully this will show them why this duo of characters has rapidly become one of my favorite characters of all time. Good stuff.
Yeas, I feel the same... I can't stand how everyone here in Brazil are speaking about FF Rebirth but they almost don't even know Xenoblade's existence... If it is underrated there, here it is even more
You did an amazing job with this video. It was incredible hearing just how much passion you show for these characters; I didn't even realize almost an hour passed until it was over. Thanks, you managed to make me feel emotional for characters I'd never even heard of an hour ago. Cheers!
The characters and the story are so well-made. The emotions and so many details of foreshadowing and hints/ lines are just pushing it far more than success. It's good to have this video to break down on it and hopefully to explain that pyra/mythra and this game are way more good than what you can see from their appearance (boobs and all those stuff what ppl always trying to say it's not good). And that is why generally this game has a good rating and comments after so many years despite them. Note: the "join me" part , it's incredible on japanese dub by zenitsu's voice actor. check it out if possible.
Thanks for making these videos, just watched all your Xenoblade ones after finishing 3 and needing to hear people gush about the characters. I hate finishing a game, I hate having left Noah and Mio behind like I have Shulk, Rex and everyone else before. But hopefully the DLC will give me just that bit more of them!
I have started this game because i loved both Pyra's and Mythra's design, and i stayed because i fell in love with their whole character. Everyone else was fantastic too, especially Rex i grew to love more than i ever thought i would. Fantastic Game, and whoever says this game is bad or has bad writing clearly *only wanted* to see anime boobs.
I don't know if the video mentions this but you know how when Rex first meets Pyra she tells him that he'll be able to save Alrest if he takes her to Elysium? Well it's possible that what Pyra meant was not that the people of Alrest can live in Elysium but rather that by taking her to Elysium she can ask The Architect to kill her thus "saving" Alrest from herself
I never realised the parallels of Rex and Pyra’s first meeting compared to Shulk and Alvis’ it’s so awesome that there’s still so many subtle ties between the games that I hadn’t noticed, especially since it’s two protagonists meeting their corresponding members of the Trinity Processor.
Their father truly was god for being able to bring both back in separate bodies, I usually don't like getting into emotional situations but I could definitely feel my heart hurt when they sacrificed themselves before they came back
Truly one of my most loved games ever. XC2 is the only reason why I used to bring my switch everywhere I go. I didn't care how pretty much everyone judged me, a grown ass man, playing a "gameboy machine" out in public. The story and gameplay were just so engrossing. I loved the base game's story so much that I couldn't play the trona dlc, despite having bought it, since I already know how things will turn out based on the base storyline. I just couldn't bear the heartbreak.
Such a great analysis. Xenoblade 2 was such a great story and all of your points about pyra and mythra were spot on. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and bring me back down memory lane of how great this story is. Cheers!
I just spent 53 minutes watching a video about 2 characters that I only know from smash and I don’t regret it in the slightest. I can clearly hear the excitement in your voice you have for these characters
I got this game five years ago, but dropped it after being overwhelmed with the combat system, and only picked it back up again a couple weeks ago because I had nothing else to do. I just finished playing it, and I am so glad I got to finish it. Even after accidentally spoiling myself with certain important story elements and knowing Mythra exists, it was still an emotional rollercoaster. Thanks for putting into words all the emotions I felt at the end of the game!
This video was the best Xenoblade video I’ve ever watched. You single-handedly nailed down all the best moments in the game and explained what made them so impactful. Thanks for the awesome analysis man!!
During my initial play through of this game, I didn’t really care much for Pyra/Mythra. I was more impacted by Jin, Zeke, and Amalthus. But this video made me realize how much Pyra/Mythra are part of the reason why I love this game so much. They really are the definition of well written characters. I hope they return in Xenoblade 3. This was an incredible video GPS.
GPS you've done it again, I know how much time you've put into this, and it was worth it. I felt every ounce of your passion and you made an incredible video, so proud of you. Take a well-deserved break, and I'll obviously be here for whatever you make in the future, keep it up.
Absolute legend. Thanks so much for the encouragement and support through it all, really makes the process so much easier seeing people care. You’re a good man fleet.
13:26 eeeeeeh…except the Miracle Parfait item you get for sidequesting in Auresco proves Mythra does in fact have some good cooking buried deep inside her.
Seriously amazing video here. Just when I think I can’t appreciate these characters more than I already do, I watch these kinds of character analysis video and I fall in love with them all over again. I absolutely can’t stand that so many people judge them based off their revealing clothing when really they’re some of the most brilliantly written characters in any work of fiction, not just video games.
Hey. Incredible video, and you are spot on. This is one of my personal top games of all time because of the storytelling! I will admit, that I only knew about Pyra and Mythra after the Smash reveal, not knowing their game. And seeing all the toxicity I choose to play Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for myself. I have not regretted it at all. All the characters are memorable and enjoyable! Once again incredible video! Thank you very much.
This game is insane on how good it is. Inever ended up playing the game due to a lack of game consoles and time, but I did watch a 16 hour video over the course of a few days regarding the main story line. Man was it an emotional roller coaster. I still don’t see why majority of fans from the Xenoblade Community rank this game among the worst, yet it was by far my favorite. I completely agree with all your statements about the characters, and why it’s a masterpiece. Freaking loved this game
How come I only stumbled upon this video now?! Man...what an incredibly thoughtful and well-structured piece of art deconstructing another fantastic piece of art. I cannot remember the last time I sat through an hour of content listening to every single word. The beauty of this game is always overshadowed because it is a game and it because of the anime style. Its sad to see these excellent design choices be misinterpreted and have people miss out on one of the greatest games of all time. Nonetheless, you were absolutely flawless.
Wow I gotta say thank YOU for the incredibly thoughtful comment! I’m thrilled that you enjoyed the video and this game to the extent that I do. Hope you have a fantastic day! ❤️
This game broke me in ways that others have never achieved. There wasn't a session when I was playing it where I didn't have tissues on standby because I'd tear up during every cutscene, truly a masterpiece to have such impact on someone's emotions like that. But the ending is better sweet, seeing Pyra and Mythra return filled me with joy, but the dread of knowing Blades lose their memories upon returning to their core, truly left me a mess ever since. Constantly looking for answers that'd let me rest easy knowing all we went through wasn't forgotten, hoping that if the core is opened by the same driver again that all would remain the same, but knowing the Conduit is gone, Pyra and Mythra could just be regular blades without any previous knowledge and or abilities, leaving them as a blank slate with no personality. Thoughts like this have been eating me inside, showing how incredible and carefully written this game was. I can only hope when I play XC3 I get the answers I'm looking for.
What an absolutely incredible video, Xenoblade always does such a great job at creating amazing characters and Pyra/Mythra are so often overlooked unfortunately
I agree with this video I really hate it when people say i only main pyra/mythra in smash just for the jiggle physics. But they got it all wrong I main pyra/mythra for the story in xc2 and I love xc2 And anyways thank you for makeing this video.
Hey, I just wanted to give a big shout to your work. I think you have managed to put in words a lot of the feelings I felt about this game when it comes to story-telling and character development. The palpable emotion in your voice as you were reading your own script is a testament to the incredible character writing and story telling in this game. I could relate to these emotions. I personally enjoyed that you let that emotion in your voice transpire (maybe it wasn’t intentional), and I thought it made you very personable. I had dropped the game many times out of frustration with the combat system and the amount of stuff the game was throwing at me, pulling me in so many directions which I could never fully pursue because I was missing something that was never explained. But I came back… and what kept me coming back is what you are describing in this video. I got attached to the characters, their tragic past, their path, and I really found myself caring. I cared enough to eventually invest 250 hours in this game. Thanks again for doing this.
That is so very kind of you. I’m super glad my emotion bled through, a story like this deserves it! I deeply appreciate the comment and your feedback, means the world. Have a great day!
For 700 subscribers at the moment of me commenting, this video is one of the best character analysis videos I’ve ever seen! Good job your hard work paid off in making an interesting video!
I've seen a couple videos recently (full playthroughs, analysis, etc.) and everytime the ending of the game is brought up I get teary eyed. The music is a big part of it but it's genuinely so emotional.
I'm a little tardy to this party, but I want to say thank you for taking the time to make such an eloquent, thought-provoking, and insightful video defending two of the best characters ever written in fiction.
Some criticize Monolith's decision to have Pyra and Mythra be revived at the end, but as you mentioned, their character development isn't about them no longer being afraid to die -- it's about them no longer being afraid to *live.* It's only appropriate that the game concludes with them doing just that.
Really glad to see others that understand!
Honestly, playing Torna completely sealed the deal for me. Mythra is a deeply tragic character with layers and I love her a lot.
OO fantastic taste, I see the Homura pfp- You know, Homura and Pyra/Mythra feel like kind of the same character but reversed !
Simpleton.
Best anime character pfp
@@justamanwithsomesoup3352 u must be such a smart person!
She's just as sweet as Pyra
Its a bad game because its cringe weebo garbage that leans on trite storytelling and overused tropes.
Bro you might need to get your t checked
@@abdulshowa7170I didn't cry in the first time I played Xenoblade, but cried a lot in the second time, even though I already knew what would happen.
I am weird
And when they are fighting Dickson, it was different feeling, my body was hurting as if all that was happening was really true and not just a videogame, and that was the third time I was seen that
I love the way you describe your favorite scene in the game, where Rex convinces the Aegis girls to keep living.
That really means a lot! I’m so glad I articulated my thoughts well enough, thank you.
That Artifice reveal was cool af tho
It happens in other Games, Anime and Manga, like the case of Rin Tohsaka in Type-Moon Fate Franchise, or the numerous other Tsundere characters in the isekai genre.
But what has gotten everyone so sick, angry and full of hate, to the point where they won't bother give the Tsundere characters a chance is because in virtually all the stories that have been coming out from Japanese Media the Tsundere character always wins and the main character always falls in love with her. This is most certainly going to be cause and a recipe for hate.
So even if it's true that the Tsundere was indeed the best written and most developed character around, the real world negative impact and side effects of the Tsundere trope as well as the actions of writers and their fans to keep pushing and shoving the same characters and tropes into people's faces as well as denying and banning any other non Tsundere character trope any chance of getting with the main character and from being "given love" is only causing people to despise and hate the trope even more.
Totally agree! Thanks for the comment 🙏

When Tora and Tatazo reunited, and she cried, let’s be real Addam would 100% shed tears at that XD
And so did his blade :3
On the Pyra side, my fav little moment upon replays was when she and Rex visited the grave and Rex introduced her to his parents as “my new partner”.
Ayyy glad you found it! I love meeting others who love Xenoblade 2
It’s mostly because people want the big, third party characters to be the ones added to Smash. When there is a character that you really want and there is only a finite number of slots, when it’s used up on a first party Nintendo character from a game you’ve never played, it can be disappointing. While
I didn’t express it online, I was disappointed by the inclusion at the time of the reveal.
When does it get good? I'm on chapter 5
They literally suck.
@@runictablet9398 Wait till chapter 6.
Right on! Also thanks a million, so glad you enjoyed it
Fun fact about that moment that was pointed out to me. Those little particle things raining down at the ending? Like, a second before the Crystal glowed you see one of them go Into the Crystal, and that’s when it reactivated. Very lucky for the Aegis gals huh? XD
I just love this game. The story, the Characters especially the relationship between Rex and Pyra / Mythra is just perfect. 10/10
What great friends you have!
I love them, they are great characters and the way the Smash community was prejudiced towards them was very unfair.

Dude thanks so much! Comments like these really bring me so much joy, I’m so glad you enjoyed it
It’s because they’re a throwaway fighter in Smash and shouldn’t even be in the game.
I think this just helps solidify that Xenoblade Chornicles 2 is my favourite game in the series. Thank you for making this video!

And here I am, crying again because of that ending, every time I see it, it somehow manages to hit as hard as the first time. Great Video mate!
after thinking about mythra, pyra, malos, rex, and jin, i understood that this game xplains the existence of role model characters better than any thing i have ever seen, and not just that, it tailors them with western phylosophy and makes them tools of the "coming of age", its a fking masterpiece
Master piece 🙌
You summed it up so well, I also get sick of people dismiss them, just because they have big chests.
I’m so happy I could do that for you. This is my favorite game and it’s so nice to see others that share similar tastes. Thanks for the comment!
I absolutely love them so much. Bayonetta, Rosalina and Pyra are my favorites characters.
Rex’s terribly voiced “JOIN MEEEE” kills me every time
Yeah, honestly I wish he'd gotten some slightly more coherent dialog.
I know it makes me laugh in a very sad scene
I loved Etika's reaction to that part when he reached it. Did the voice and face and everything lmao.
Think you can take meeeee?!
Beautiful video, perfectly encapsulates why Xenoblade 2 is one of my favorite games of all time
God damnit man, I've played through this game like 9 or 10 times, and everytime I see the last cutscene it manages to rip a few tears from my eyes.
It's as you said at the end, the negativity around them is from people that haven't played the game, and it's nice to see that the people that have love them as much as I do
Likewise! So glad you could find my video, much appreciated 🙏
I'm really glad that someone did this
I would love to send this to people who throw out the dumb claims about Pyra and Mythra but I feel like that'll ruin the experience of Xenoblade 2 a bit
Guess I got to think of some other way
MAN, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, PYRA AND MYTHRA ARE MY FAVORITE VIDEOGAME FEMALE CHARACTERS.
Excellent editing! Excellent pacing! Excellent presentation!
Excellent video! You did a great job explaining and exploring her character.
Thank YOU for the sweet comment! So happy you enjoyed, take care!
honestly I love Xenoblade 2s characters. and many people I know who love 2 don’t really like Pyra which is a shame because she has to be one of my favorite characters from the franchise if not my favorite
I aggressively touched myself to how good and excellent this video was
How I needed this video. Especially since XC2 is being so unfairly Stepped over by XC3 now it is the new toy. The amount of care and respect you show towards them brought a tear to my heart. Thank you so much from the bottom of my soul. Know I love this game and both characters just as much as you. Have a great life!
This is great! I'm so tired of people calling her a tsundare, shes got hedgehog dilemma
You’re very welcome! And thank YOU for the lovely comment! Have an amazing day ❤️🔥
32:29 Chapter 7 is literally the one part of the game where I beelined the main objective without doing any side content lol, Monolith really knew how to bring out that sense of urgency.
Wait, I never noticed the parallels between alvis and shulk. And rex and and pyra holy shit
Why Pyra and Mythra are great characters?
Because they exist. Simple as that.
Jokes a side (Or was it a joke...?) I am glad you did this video. I've seen many people hate on these characters because "ThEy HaVe BiG BoObS!"
Hopefully this will show them why this duo of characters has rapidly become one of my favorite characters of all time. Good stuff.
Every fucking time i see an Xenoblade cuscene i got emotional... why this franchise is so underrated ?!
Absolute banger. Masterpiece. Magnum opus. King, you dropped this 👑 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have started this game because i loved both Pyra's and Mythra's design, and i stayed because i fell in love with their whole character.
Finally a Video talking good things about pyra y mythra, thanks bro
Of course man, they deserve it
@@xanderscut the video was amazing, and I enjoyed being in the chat ^_^
Me: I won’t cry during the final scene I won’t cry during the final scene-
Final scene: Imma make you cry.
Mythra: “Tadaima”
Me: FUCK IT IM CRYING.
You spit facts all the way through this video. Thank you for putting something like this together! Xenoblade 2 is an amazing game.
As a smash Aegis main and a huge xenoblade fan, this video hits different and I love it. Thank you for making this
Their father truly was god for being able to bring both back in separate bodies, I usually don't like getting into emotional situations but I could definitely feel my heart hurt when they sacrificed themselves before they came back
Truly one of my most loved games ever.
Cheers!
Thanks a million, your time and generosity is not taken for granted! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your day, you deserve it!
I just spent 53 minutes watching a video about 2 characters that I only know from smash and I don’t regret it in the slightest. I can clearly hear the excitement in your voice you have for these characters
So kind of you and so happy you enjoyed! Thanks a million 🙏
Damn, this video is so well-produced!
This video was perfect. I'll be doing a newgame+ playthrough again because of it. This is one of the absolute best games ive ever played.
And thank YOU for the watch and such a nice comment, hope you have a great day!
For me, the lyrics of "One Last You" foreshadowed to Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
"The frozen time began to flow"
Damn.
13:26 eeeeeeh…except the Miracle Parfait item you get for sidequesting in Auresco proves Mythra does in fact have some good cooking buried deep inside her.
They do both possess really big parts of why this game is beautiful
But they got it all wrong I main pyra/mythra for the story in xc2 and I love xc2
And anyways thank you for makeing this video.
32:31
Chuggaaconroy: that’s where you’re wrong bucko
Another fantastic video! I look forward to seeing you continue to get better and better with each video you produce!
I love your writing, you made me feel the sentiment again ❤
32:10 our most valuable accuracy/evasion buff
But I came back…
and what kept me coming back is what you are describing in this video.
I appreciate the ending even more now, though as Pneuma was my favourite, it still hurts
For 700 subscribers at the moment of me commenting, this video is one of the best character analysis videos I’ve ever seen! Good job your hard work paid off in making an interesting video!
Thanks for the kind words! Will do ❤️🔥
I've seen a couple videos recently (full playthroughs, analysis, etc.) and everytime the ending of the game is brought up I get teary eyed. The music is a big part of it but it's genuinely so emotional.
I'm a little tardy to this party, but I want to say thank you for taking the time to make such an eloquent, thought-provoking, and insightful video defending two of the best characters ever written in fiction.
No problem! And thank you so much for the kind words ❤️🔥
17:42 pyra does a flip🎉
My favourite game of all times despite my almost 30 years gaming experience. Pyra and Mythra are truly memorable and awesome characters
