This game is sad from start to finish. Joel carries sadness with him all the time; it's always present in his expressions, the way he kills, his interaction with all other charachters and by the end he's had enough and selfishly sacrifices humanity to avoid sadness. No song or movie I know of ever had such a sad narrative. Brilliant ... just brilliant.
Especially when he kills something/someone and Ellie just says, "Holy shit, Joel" and he just doesn't respond. There's never any commentary, just impersonal silence.
watch closely at 10:33, just after he says "a long time with surviving" he touches his watch -which was given by sarah- and remembers her, details people.
5:53 best scene in the game for me, Ellie admits how much Joel means to her. There's a father and daughter like relationship building the whole game and this scene solidifies that, best game ever
That is the scene where Ellie pretty much admitted that she sees Joel as her father. The scene where Ellie kills David is what solidified Ellie as Joel's daughter in his eyes. Him calling her "baby girl" like he used to call Sarah is what truly solidified it. Absolutely phenomenal and powerful writing.
Shook me so much I dropped the controller and the cutscene ended but I thought the drop had pressed a skip button so I had to go back and do the whole chapter again.
RIP - Sarah RIP - Riley (Ellie's friends who was turned) RIP - Tess RIP - Sam RIP - Henry RIP - The girl at the hospital (I can't remember her name) and many more.
i thought the acting in sarah's death scene was one of the best displays ever. she didn't just slowly and quietly fade away, she's panicking, whimpering and gasping for breath. talk about realistic. my gf was watching for that scene and bawled her eyes out.
I think another sad part that most overlook is the whole story with Ish. You don't see him but you see everything else, from his notes to the inside of his home to the cute crayon drawings on the walls. That room with the dead kids and the "they didn't suffer" note made me tear up. Still does
The last of us. A game that covered the death of a child, implied rape attempts, the Loss of dear friends, whether or not one would give up someone they love for the better of humanity or save them for the good of themselves and the end of the world beautifully.
Sara's death, along with Henry's, Sam's and Tess's made us all sad, even when Joel got impaled. But, we can all admit that when Ellie was killing David, we were all like "FUCK YEAH ELLIE! FUCK HIM UP"
Henry was no traitor, It is survival of the fittest. Would you have risked getting your little brother and yourself killed for some 50 year old stranger and a gobby little girl?
There is no other game that drives me through an emotional rollercoaster than this. Thank you, to the directors, designers, fans, and everyone reading. You've all helped make this beautiful masterpiece, proving not all video games are not some mindless wastes of time, but amazing artwork and breath-taking experiences.

When Ellie kills David, when she says "don't tell me if be safer with someone else because the truth is I'd just be more scared" and the ending cutscene with the guitar in the background and that final word... The Last of us is truly stunning and the amount of emotion it makes you feel is so immaculately crafted. I'm speechless. Edit: also the credits music puts a lump in the throat all the time
When Sarah dies, I just noticed that her hand leaves a blood hand mark on Joel's right shoulder. Before there was no mark, then at the end there is. Naughty Dog did amazing!
The Last of Us is the first game where I watched an entire playthrough on UA-cam and I was upset when I heard that GTA 5 got GOTY. GTA 5 is nothing like TLOU. No masterpiece, no feelings, no love. GTA is a mix of realism and fiction done wrong and you can clearly see that the developers ran out of ideas. Can't wait for TLOU: Left behind so that I can spend another awesome few hours on UA-cam.
***** I can't agree. Storywise I personally find it boring. The music, if there is any, also doesn't seem to really be that good. I had no emotions when I watched video of someone playing it, however when I watched a TLOU walkthrough, I was actually worried about a video game character for probably the first time in my life. Whenever I watch a video about GTA V, it doesn't take long until I am like "Okay, I guess the creators either ran out of ideas, or were drunk". GTA V is a good sandbox game, but it doesn't have a brilliant story that actually makes you care about the characters, neither is it really realistic. As I said, GTA tries to be realistic while trying to be unrealistic at the same time. That's good for having a good laugh every now and then, but that's about it. And when it comes to Multiplayer: TLOU isn't focused at Multiplayer. It's strong point is the really awesome story, and of course, the feels. Everybody who played knows how Sarah's death feels - or at least everybody should.
***** I don't think gameplay sucks. You need to have kind of a strategy to kill different kinds of enemies (at least on harder difficulties), you often get surprised/scared, fighting really feels intense etc. You don't need to have played in order to see that, you just have to watch it and in fact, that's what people who have played it say, so I guess I believe them. Honestly, this conversation leads to nowhere. Just keep on playing GTA and don't care about people who prefer other types of games. Please don't reply.
ThePC007 I think you are right ,TLOU is better ,like infinite times better, don't worry ,every show ,magazine ,etc...does its own GOTY award TLOU already owns 13 while gta only 7 The Last Of Us is the absolute winner this year I have putted a comment in that 7 year old gta fanboy and i think his balls just fell to the ground PD :TLOU did to GTA what Ellie did to David XD

The scene that gets me every time is not a cut scene, it was the scene when he was carrying her out of St. Mary's, that's what gets me every time as it's very reminiscent to how he carried Sarah. Metal Gear Solid is the only game series I obsess about OTHER than this game. This game is a masterpiece and I'd recommend buying a playstation JUST to play it. Hard to believe anyone would be disappointed
Agreed. I've never been let down by a Metal Gear Solid game yet. Everytime a new one is released, the previous goes from my favorite game, to my second favorite, the newer one being my favorite. Although currently the Last of Us is my favorite one, I have high confidence that it will be a second when MGSV comes out.
I was certain Joel wouldn't make it, it brought me a quote to mind "You took care of me, when I had nowhere to go and now I return the favor, please don't go. I don't want you to go yet" Feels man, feels.
Joel reminds me of my dad and I see myself in Ellie. It was hard for me to play because I know I have done my father wrong and all I want to do is make him proud of me. I know he cares even when I feel like he doesnt. And putting it all into a scenario like that.. Its hard.
I am 45, I played video games since I was a teenager, never in my life any game got me caught emotionally and crying so much than The Last Of Us. I couldn't help crying again seeing this video. Well, I am a father too, it has obviously something to do with. The story writing and telling is so intense, and involves you so much through the game mechanics. No movie can do that like this. It nails it completely where it belongs - deep in the heart. I am very curious to play the 2nd part, which goes out soon now. I am a bit afraid of it too.
Don't get me wrong gta v is a good game but TLOU is AMAZING and ten times better so how did gta get GOTY I mean seriously it pales in comparison to TLOU
Well, GTA V had a big amount of fans due to previous versions and on top, it was not exclusive to just one console, so more people played it. It sucks, I know, but yeah. What can ya do?
Don't worry ,every show ,magazine ,etc...does its own GOTY award TLOUS already owns 13 while gta only 7 The Last Of Us is the absolute winner this year
That's what I call the CoD mentality. OHH upgraded graphics, GOTY! Not saying GTA5 was a bad game, I enjoyed it alot (except for online, it sucks massive dick).
Anyone else notice that Joel sorta wipes his broken watch when he talks about "You keep finding something to fight for." ? Fuck, this game, this story, these characters. It's all blended into this well manufactured story and I never get enough of it. The Last of Us 2 has some big shoes to cover, but with the same team at the reins, I have complete faith that they won't fuck it up.
"He tried to" "Oh, baby girl" Fuck mannn..... Remember the first time I saw this I got a lump in my throat, the scene is not that sad because you finally see Joel and Ellie together, but you feel devastated for Ellie and what she went through with fucking David, and the way Joel comforts her , calling her baby girl and all, that's just brilliant the way this game toys with your emotions
The Last of Us = Adult, heart-wrenching, R-rated, emotional ans scary expereince. Uncharted = Disney-like, bright, happy, lighthearted, PG-13 popcorn fare. Go figure.

Agreed. I've never been let down by a Metal Gear Solid game yet. Everytime a new one is released, the previous goes from my favorite game, to my second favorite, the newer one being my favorite. Although currently the Last of Us is my favorite one, I have high confidence that it will be a second when MGSV comes out.
Kyle Surette You have good taste in games
Easily the most emotional game ever
8:51 that voice breaks my heart 😭💔
I was certain Joel wouldn't make it, it brought me a quote to mind
"You took care of me, when I had nowhere to go and now I return the favor, please don't go. I don't want you to go yet"
Feels man, feels.
Joel wasn't lying, check the tapes in the left behind DLC.
This game left me in Tears every time I played it.
Bruhhhhhh why do I torture myself by rewatching this
this reminded of all the fun I had playing this game and made feel like I was watching a movie all over again. THANK YOU :)
Joel reminds me of my dad and I see myself in Ellie. It was hard for me to play because I know I have done my father wrong and all I want to do is make him proud of me. I know he cares even when I feel like he doesnt. And putting it all into a scenario like that.. Its hard.
Never related to anything more in my life omg
I mustve watch the intro like 6times now and holy crap the violin and great acting still gets to me :'l
Don't worry ,every show ,magazine ,etc...does its own GOTY award
TLOUS already owns 13 while gta only 7
The Last Of Us is the absolute winner this year
That's what I call the CoD mentality. OHH upgraded graphics, GOTY!
Not saying GTA5 was a bad game, I enjoyed it alot (except for online, it sucks massive dick).
I think just like you ,its the same with more graphics ,im not saying i dont like it.
And the multiplayer is the most laggy thing i've ever seen
Daniel Stefanov Krastev Im not experiencing any lag, it's just that it takes 30 fucking minutes to get in a 2v2 deathmatch.
this hurts so much after seeing what happens in the last of us 2
Cried three times during this, brought back major memories from the last time playing this game
I cry every time... even parts that aren't in this video make me teary-eyed
Sarah's death was the saddest scene i've ever seen in a video game :(
The memories are too much, I miss this game.
I miss it all, it makes me wanna cry all over again
Anyone else notice that Joel sorta wipes his broken watch when he talks about "You keep finding something to fight for." ?
Fuck, this game, this story, these characters. It's all blended into this well manufactured story and I never get enough of it. The Last of Us 2 has some big shoes to cover, but with the same team at the reins, I have complete faith that they won't fuck it up.
I'm crying right now… ._. like no joke...
Awesome still makes me cry great job!!!
HUGH JACKMAN FOR JOEL IN A TLOU MOVIE PLEASE
No Troy baker he’s in everything he’s also Joel’s actor
Who knew a 14 year old girl saying “okay” makes me cry.
Anyone else relate
this game has me speachless, it is something special and gets me emotinal everytime and i cant describe it
Well done, you made some beautiful work , I like but just because it is done properly otherwise it is sad
rip joel. we all miss you
Oh man 7 years is the video
5:23 to 5:50 is really intense and I could feel my body vibrate weirdly and it scared me so much the first time I watched it when I played
6:58 gets to me every time :'(
The feelings are strong with this one
If the beginning didn’t make you cry at least the first three times you saw it, you’re a sociopath
I love how the soldier says “but” as if he doesn’t want to follow order, but has to anyway.
Naughty Dog: hey how about we kill the main character you cared so much about?
During watching this i had shivers all over my body. One of the best game i've ever played.
One of the best games i ever played and especially the music. This game and halo are my most memorable games.
The david scene was really the saddest.
"He tried to"
"Oh, baby girl"
Fuck mannn.....
Haha, This was posted on my birthday, Thanks man!
The Last of Us = Adult, heart-wrenching, R-rated, emotional ans scary expereince.
Uncharted = Disney-like, bright, happy, lighthearted, PG-13 popcorn fare.
Go figure.
My god, that rasping sound around 1:20 when Joel spits through gritted teeth really gets me. The acting is insane.
I played this game so many times and Joel losing Sarah like that still hits me hard to this day.
Is it just me or do I cry every time I see Sarah dying?
This game is so good. It gets you in the emotions and everything. Seriously needs a award or something ♡
FIRST PART OF VIDEO: number one saddest part
rarely a game made me feel emotions like this one ...truly a masterpiece. The acting and the story line we're extremely good .
This game had lots of detail minutes honestly I think is one of the best games ever made it was an emotional roller coaster
the acting man, its so good
