@@UnknownCoatings quick question have you ever done a video on outgassing or how to outgas or what it is? If so is there any way you could paste the video here.ty in advance happy holidays 🙏
I have alot of people asking me to do their car and truck wheels but it just takes forever to blast them in my cabinet. Hopefully setting mine up with the pot blaster will make it easier. Keep on with the great vids!
Can you do a video and show how long each step of your processes take?! And how long the completion of for example a set of 2 tone wheels take. Maybe put the actual time on screen when you are blasting each wheel, cure, wash, etc. . Put the total hours. I feel people undervalue powder coaters because they don’t understand the time it takes. Thanks
@@UnknownCoatings I'm kinda nervous about it because it's for a ducati that has only been out 3 weeks and there's only 3 of these bikes in the pacific north west. And I'm not worried about the powder coating its accidentally damaging the part
@@evaneyeball7953 chances you are going to ruin the part are pretty slim. You may just have to redo them if they don't come out. Worth giving it a try! Let me know how it turns out
@@UnknownCoatings got it done it was a gas cap and it looks awesome there is just one spot in the casting that i tried to sand out but it is better and this is by far my best piece ive ever done i had to do it 4 times but came out great and i color matched the ducati red to astatic red from prismatic.
Hey man, love the vids. Can you give us a slow close up of the finish. I have been told it's almost impossible to get powder glass flat but yours look darn close. Many thanks keep'em coming. Congrats on the 1k
I noticed you said you were shooting “mirror black?” I also use prismatic powders but use the ink black. Isn’t mirror black Columbia? I noticed that when I shoot ink black, I will get a random small bump/pinhole here and there on bigger parts(wheels and thick flat steel) when I shoot small or round tubing I have no issues at all. Is your feeling the same or do you find using mirror black is better than ink black? Thanks for posting the videos. Keep up on the keep
Good one Sir! Always learned something new from your vids. Much respect from a noob here all the way from Brunei. One question- i dont have access to proper sandblasting equipment, will it still be ok if i strip and sand down wheels before powder?
I don't recommend that. But I say work with what you have until you can upgrade. Glad my videos help! Let me know if there is anything else I can do for ya!
Hey man, love the videos. Do you mount and balance the wheels in your shop ? I have a small coating Buisness and was thinking about get a changer and balancer. Just not sure if it’s worth the investment/ aggravation. I do about 2-3 sets of wheels a week.
Certainly worth it to have your own tire stuff in house. Just make sure you get equipment that allows you to be careful with expensive wheels or freshly redone wheels. A lot of the Chinese machines have steel heads with no cover and thats a risk when dealing with various low profile or stiff sidewall tires
Love your video's. When you mention don't coat over someone job what do you do with chrome parts. Ive seen a couple of coater hetch the parts lightly in the sandblaster and coat over that. Is that ok ? Or you need to have it unchrome thanks
Just out of curiosity, have you ever used an Eastwood powder coater? Every company I've received a quote for powder coating a set of wheels out here in Colorado has been drastically more expensive then the company I used back in Wisconsin, to the point where buying the equipment myself would actually be more cost effective (I already have a nice air compressor, and the space).
I actively avoid Eastwood as a company. I don't think their new powder unit is anywhere near as good as they claim it is based on videos of actual users spraying with it. I'm not too far (Utah) feel free to bring em over here lol
@@UnknownCoatings i am in Sydney and to start as a hobby, i purchased an eastwood system. God i wish i didn't. But live and learn. By the way, Congrats on the subscriptions as i tend to binge watch several of your episodes at a time. fantastic stuff
thanks for sharing your knowledge! do you happen to check for mil thickness after curing? we're always checking to improve consistency and was just curious to compare notes with you :D for ex I found gloss black needs to be between 6 and 10mil to be mirror smooth and NOT 2.5 to 3.5 like the spec sheet says. We use Tiger Drylac. Tried spraying cold like you but never seem to get smooth finish. Take care dude!
Very helpful videos I'm looking to do this on the side I have a big car/bike fan base and wanna order the stuff from a good company to do this in my basement powder coating gun, sandblasting cabnit, oven, air compressor I'll build my own booth
Hey, your videos are good tutorials man. I just have a few questions if you could... What PSI do you push to your gun, what PSI do you push from the gun and what KV are you set at? I ask because I have the Kool Koat 3.0 from Columbia... They're all basically the same insides.
At 10:17 I see that you bake the wheel with the threaded stud and nut still attached to the wheel through the air valve hole. Does this not bond the nut to the wheel and crack the finish when removed? And on other parts that are hung from a hook, is there not a witness mark where the hook is touching the part after bake out? Thanks
its mounted thru the valve stem hole so it doesnt leave a mark or cause any issues. there is always a chance to have a mark from the hook, ideally you want to hide them as much as possible.
Hello, I have a kk 3.0 and I have a good ground and still have sometime back ionizing doing Second coat or just shooting clear coat over a base I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, I turn Down kv and sometimes still
Depends on the project but it's rare for my oven to be off during the day. So everything pretty much goes into a hot oven. No recirc fan in my current oven but new one has one and once it's up I will be modifying my existing oven
It's identical to the harbor freight one that comes with the blasting pot. I can't remember the name of the one I use as it's just an off the shelf unit from my local supply place but it shares the same tips as the harbor freight one.
Hey bud what's the chem stripper called please I'm in the UK so not looking forward to ringing the us haha Also what temp and how long do you outgas for please :)

I can probably do that. On two tone wheels there are a ton of variables. But I'll try to document time in some upcoming how to's

This is froM Sherwin Williams Powdura line. Its MUCH better than ink black.
I always enjoy watching your videos. Did you spray the powder at 40 KV? Greetings from Serbia
40-45 I believe. And thanks!
Love the videos bud! Can’t stop binge watching them 😂 do you ever base coat the wheels with primer? Is so when would you?
Wheels with pitting or flaws I can't sand away. Or steel wheels. That's all I primer

After the chemical strip do you then outgas before the media blast?
i blast outgas and quickly blast again if need be
When you taped the back off then sprayed, what did you end up putting over where you taped at? Or did you leave it sand blasted
Just leave it sand blasted
Do you do anything to the wheel between sandblasting and coating?? Do you just blow them clean or do you whipe them off??
With green diamond I legit just blow em off I have sprayed water on em to see if there is dust or anything after blasting and there isn't
I've got a 970 scatblaster trying to do a setup like how you have I've got the same blast nozzle
oh nice.
Can you make a Video about Candy powder coating with chrome powder as basecoat?

#lmdb. Love it. Great video.
How does the wheel not shock you when you're actively spraying and touching it?
because its grounded properly
Great video, do you have fan circulation in your oven? and do you always put parts into a hot oven or do you ramp and soak parts.

Hey man. What is the name of the chemical stripper you use?
Rim strip. Information is in the description

I buy all my tape on Amazon. How wide are you looking for?
Like that width in this video.. was it 4" maybe? I'm taping some motorcycle hubs now with 1/2" and it sucks 😁

Hey bud what's the chem stripper called please I'm in the UK so not looking forward to ringing the us haha

Its called RIM STRIP, its Methelyne Chloride based so I assume you cant get it in the UK
50 degrees above cure cycle for 45 mins
I think it's the same stuff I bought before then did u have issues with BMW rims I it took top coat off but left a white primer
What brand powder gun are you using?
Hs02 from Columbia. More info about it in episode 23
How long does it take to cure when u spray it cold?
lots of variables. fully cured is typically 10 minutes after the part reaches 400 degrees.
