I wish more trains from NL/BE would go beyond Paris. The transfer between Gare du Nord and Gare du Lyon is a big hurdle (especially in case of delays) to travel beyond Paris.
You don't need to change in Paris! You have Thalys from Amsterdam to Brussels South and in Brussels South you have the French TGV (4 trains each day) going to the South of France (Lyon, Marseille, Avignon, etc). I did it plenty of times.
The problem with paris is that all 6 of its major stations are a terminus, which poses a really big problem for future high-speed rail connections between Southern Europe and brussels/Amsterdam. Currently trains from brussels to strasbourg or the French riviera go through either the airport or Disneyland without actually stopping in Paris. It's a big waste imo.
Liked your new introduction and Simply Railway flip intro. You’ve obviously spent a lot of time and effort on producing this slick new feature. Well done. 👍🏻🏴❤️
As usual, you make 'our' journey with you very enjoyable and invariably I smile at some of your light hearted ways...Merci friend...Greetings from a cold-wintry evening in Bangalore.🚋🚆🚋
Why do you think they will be removing the restaurant car on the new Thalys? It actually was my favourite part of the whole train. It's a place that allows for some social interaction, and to "break" a journey which would otherwise be entirely seat-bound. Especially love the fact that they have actual tables; not just a counter! It's the same on Frecciarossa. Frecciarossa(s) up to ETR500 have a proper sit-down area with wooden (lined) tables, and plush blue velvet seats (not silk-velvet of course, but some fire-retardant synthetic version of if I'm sure, but still it looks classy). All the newer Frecciarossa (above 500) seem to have done away entirely sit-down/table component. Some have a small handful of barstools with a miniature couter, but the top-of-the-line Frecciarossa 1000 doesn't even have those, just a tiny crammed stand-up counter with ta view of the bins on one side, and a wall on the other. In the early days of the Frecciarossa, its on-board restaurant was quite a feature... It gave it an element of class which is lacking on most modern services.
Vilain garnement 😂
Unfortunately we dont have this wonderful Transportations Systems here in Brazil. Thank you for share this video with me. I really apreciate to know little bit about pu lic transportation there in Europe. Thank so much.🌎💚
Love that retro composition board!! I can't wait to see your Canadian trip. I was super excited to see your recent cameo in Downie's short. I grew up just outside of Toronto. I live in the US now, but my brother works for the company that runs Toronto's GO trains
A direct train makes everything so simple. When I went from Paris to Chamonix, which could in theory be done with two trains, I had to take 3 trains and one bus and it took about 9 hours.
I don’t think the trains will be stopping in Kent for a very long time, SNCF miffed that British government offered no financial assistance to the service during covid. I believe that the trains are only running at two thirds capacity, brexit related matter?
Good video, we've missed you!!! I like the new intro, I just will add the average speed of the travel with the map when you indicate the travel time, the travel distance and the tavel price.
Some of these Americans might be soldiers who are off-duty in Germany and Italy. From here, how do you get to Aviano Air Force Base Vicenza Army barracks Italy & Clay Kaserne Wiesbaden Ramstein Air Base Germany by train. When it comes to 15kv 16.7hz AC DBAG Netze ÖBB Infra TGV PBKA POS et Euroduplex simply use DC 1.95m pantograph Metalized Carbon strip on 15kv 16.7hz AC Carbon strip 1.95m. On the other hand, a German Swiss and Austrian train running on French 1.5kv DC will drop its 25kv 50hz 1.45m Carbon Strip for a 1.95m pantograph Metalized Carbon strip activated with 1.95m Carbon strip pantograph lowered. You can see this on the rooftop of DB Baureihe 406-408 ICE3M ICE3 Neo where do they have separate pantograph strips for each voltage. From what I can see the French approach which is also seen in former Czechoslovakia does reduce the space for pantographs by using same length 1.45m Carbon SNCF CFF CFL 25kv 50hz/15kv 16.7hz AC work on Italian 3kv DC while a Metalized Carbon strip 1.95m pantograph can work on 3kv DC 25kv 50hz and 15kv 16.7hz AC systems that require Carbon strip
One should do some research on what's the longest trip in Europe without an intermediate stop. I once took Frecciarossa form Rome to Mestre and the first stop was Padova (it skipped both Florence and Bologna), but there's certainly a longer one too.
There used to be a Paris-Moscow sleeper before covid and the war. Now I would imagine that the longest journey (in terms of duration) is the Prague-Split sleeper train that Regiojet operate in the summer
Well, strictly speaking, you *can* drink a bottle of wine while driving a car. It's just a very, very bad idea. 🙂 The wine reminds me of an organised cycling holiday I had in my late twenties, around the Gironde area in south-western France. Cycling every other day, not too far, going to the beach and/or the obligatory piscine at the camping site, sitting down with some red wine in the evening and chat... In fact, to get to the south of France, my friend and I took a Thalys (leg space was so-so) from Amsterdam to Paris, and a TGV (leg space was terrible) to the south-west of France. Obviously, because the French can't imagine that anybody would want to bypass Paris, we had to take the métro with our luggage. Ah, memories...
I wish thalys didn't hold a monopoly on the brussels-paris line. The journey is only 1.5h but it's not uncommon to find tickets for more than 100 euros since there is no competition. So either that or you pay 15 euros for a 4h flixbus ride, hopefully with the liberalization of European rail we'll see some competition so that this line will actually be affordable

Great ride. It seems that the station would be on of the great places for train watching in Europe We definitely saw some great views on this one! Have you ever ridden the 'JR Central' that runs in Japan?
Just read that the Thalys brand will be removed from the trains this year due to the merger with eurostar. Also siemens stock is expected to travel between Amsterdam and Paris.
According to the news I read, both companies will continue operating different brands once merged into the Eurostar Group, at least for now. However, it is planned that the Eurostar brand will gradually absorb Thalys in the future, so we might start seeing PBA and PBKA trains converted to Eurostar in a few years
Great video, I've always wondered how this trip was from the inside, it's still a very special Thalys. Now the next goal would be to make us discover the other train, Bourg-Saint Maurice London by Eurostar to do but this is almost mission impossible 😅.
Such a shame you cannot take dogs on Eurostar otherwise this would be a great way to the Alps for dog owning skiers like me. Easy change of trains at Brussels Sud and then straight to Bourg St Maurice. As it is we drive from Calais down the A26 with all the other Brits - not very green and you arrived absolutely exhausted! Any other ideas how to travel with a dog from London to the Alps?!!
Great trip, finally you are back, and yeah you got brand new intro. Correct me if I wrong, but in the past, there's also Eurostar reaching that station. I'm curious, is that true Thalys will be merged with Eurostar?
Wonderful way to travel, the restaurant cars used to be very civilised, it’s such a shame to remove the restaurant cars. I thought the lines were high speed right into the Alps, obviously not if single track or standard track. Is it possible to explain the different voltages and the impact of the different voltages on the train? I vaguely remember that the higher the voltage results in less loss of power over distance, lower voltage requires more substations? I don’t really understand and why there isn’t a common European standard?
How much time do the skiers have to ski between trains before returning home. There is only one train on Saturday that turns around soon after arriving at the ski resort?
At 10:19 , I think you meant to say that Germany has 1.5kV (1500V) AC instead of France/Netherlands 1500V (1.5kV) DC You put 1.5kV and 1500V as different things
Is that 239€ one way or both ways? Their website cites 129€ for a premium ticket (at least for the Thalys Snow), which would be a bit cheeky if untrue.
So glad it's back but this intro... while the animation is great, the sound is similar to that of a brand account you tube intro with extremely annoying sound :/
I'd love to see a review of the South XPT Sleeper between Sydney and Melbourne in Australia. You have to book two tickets unfortunately, or your room will be shared with someone
Wow! €239.-- for a so-called "premium" experience, which boils down to over six hours (or over eight for the poor sods continuing to Amsterdam) in a not very spacious seat with no recline (no, a seat cushion that slides an inch or so forward is not the same thing) and catering consisting of a glass of water (not even a bottle!), and a single cold meal? I really had to laugh when that cramped and messy tray with all the items askew and a bread roll plonked on top was lauded for the "great presentation". I' also wonder how on earth a no longer very fresh salad can be delicous, but hey, not everybody has a discerning palate. As a bonus, those going to Amsterdam get to enjoy the privilege of arriving not only hungry but at a god-forsaken hour as well.
This service looks amazing. Something we are in Germany allways dreaming of.
We dream about this kind of service being here in Canada, too

Of all the European train operators I travelled with, Thalys has the most comfortable seats and the best service by far!
