Good video. On torquing down the clutch pack bolts, i recommend you go in crisscross pattern like you did when you tightened it down. Also, if the motor is still in the bike, its pretty hard to use the tranny input shaft as an alignment tool. Folks can get an old junk input shaft or buy/make a tool. good job!
wanted to ask..also have a 77..Clutch issue is that the lower adjuster (Bolt and lock nut) ..pull the clutch lever and have clutch ..after a few pulls the bolt backs off even after snugging up the lock nut..then No Clutch at all..clutch lever pull is Nothing..any ideas? Thanks
thanks for the video, does it differs in any way on the r100rs ´82? i´d like to do it, as i already have the motorcycle disassembled ... to center it, it´s enough doing it eyeballing?
Yes, the 1982 clutch and flywheel are different from the 1977 version. BMW lighted the flywheel causing a redesign of these parts. I have a 1983 RS that I plan to work on so I hope to have a similar write-up and video on removing the clutch and flywheel for the "clutch carrier" configuration. BTW, you can find all my documentation on 3 complete and 1 partial rebuild here: --> brook.reams.me You can also go to this page if you wish --> brook.reams.me/bmw-motorcyle-rebuilds/ Best. Brook.
First time I use an alignment tool, it still wasn’t quite centered because of the clearances of the friction plate “hanging” off the tool, which cause it to be off center, this transition method would be best... but it’s be difficult to do with the engine in the frame...
Roy, It depends on the year. Up to 1981, the BMW torque values are for "clean, no oil" on the threads. For 1981+, the torque spec changes and they call for well oiled threads. This is a 1977, so "clean, no oil" for the threads. Hope that helps.

Best.
Brook.
A universal clutch alignment tool works fine.
First time I use an alignment tool, it still wasn’t quite centered because of the clearances of the friction plate “hanging” off the tool, which cause it to be off center, this transition method would be best... but it’s be difficult to do with the engine in the frame...
In the dialog you mention cycle works or cyclewerks or..? Can you provide contact info on this shop?
