David Morse Thanks for the tech review. This car looks really premium to me, I'm glad they stayed away from the two rising character lines so many others use that make all cars look alike. This is head and shoulders above the 2019 Elantra refresh that looks like it was doodled by a fourth-grader in detention.
I’ve been set on a Niro for some time Peter, however the more I learn about the Forte the more I think it might be a better package for me. I was in a friends the other night and I was impressed! The CV.. cough cough** i mean IVT felt so good! “Shifts” were quick and smooth in sport manual mode and it felt fun too drive! I think all the added tech in the EX premium and the pretty impressive fuel economy and not to mention the lower price tag just might make this my next car! Decisions decisions though! I’ve been working with Garth, he seems like a great guy and your dealership seems to be a place of honesty and integrity, I felt in no way pressured or taken advantage of like I have at so many other places unfortunately. Keep up the good work on the videos and I look forward to purchasing my next vehicle from Brantford Kia! Cheers!
Thanks for writing! Yes, the Niro, the Forte, and so many other cars in our lineup are fantastic cars blending a great driving experience with good fuel economy and all kinds of technology! Thanks for acknowledging Garth as well. We really work hard here to treat people correctly. It's nice to know that customers feel the difference in working with us!
You know, when this redesign came out, I was like, damn, that's beatuiful, then the GT comes out, with that amazing exhaust! my god KIA that was a clear surprise that it has that crackle and pop sound to it! EX is great, GT, most def fun! KIA really showing their A-Game! thanks for the EX review!
Oh for sure! This car jumped onto the scene as a class leader, it immediately won best compact car in Canada, and nearly won overall Canadian Car of the year as it was a top 3 finalist and ended up losing to the Kia Stinger. The Forte is an awesome car!
Great video as always! How come the EX Limited doesn't have fog lights though? Also, I've heard some reviewers say that the ACC won't work under around 30km/h. Is it true? I've actually been to my Kia dealer yesterday to test drive the new Forte (they only had an EX) and I noticed a few things: - In a previous video, you mentioned that only the first 500ish EX Fortes will have dual zone climate control, fog lights and blinkers in the mirrors. It's true! The EX I tested didn't have fog lights and only had manual although it had blinkers in the mirrors. - I was worried about the IVT but it felt quite normal and appropriate for day to day use. - I was even more worried about the rear suspension not being independent. I didn't mind it at all but then again I only had less than 10 minutes to test drive it thanks to my wonderful and very helpful dealership which couldn't give me a tank with more than 20km of range... Anyway, the suspension is much better than my Forte 2017! - The belt line is significantly higher and you feel much more confined inside. - Curiously, the design line running from front to back shows up really nice in the side rear view mirrors. It looks really nice and it makes the back look like is has wider haunches! - The base sound system is very good! Compared to the premium Fender sound system in a relative's 2018 VW Golf, there isn't that big of a difference! - The heated steering wheel is a joy!
So the fog lights aren't on this car, and to be honest, that's my ONE issue with the 2019 Forte. The cars that ARE equipped with fog lights have a halogen style bulb which makes a yellow light compared to the crisp clean lines of the LED headlights. I don't think they look right when they're on, because they don't match the nicer lights, and I question if they actually put much usable light on the road. The LED headlights are so good, I don't think the halogen foglights add practical, on the road lighting. With that in mind, I'm ok with them leaving them off the Limited trim, however I'd love to see white, led fog lights in this trim line. As far as the smart cruise control, yes some of our vehicles have this system with "Stop and Go" the Forte does not. Would it be nice to have the full system? Sure. But where do you stop? This car is LOADED with technology and it's still a very competitive price. Regular cruise control on almost every car doesn't work at slow speeds, so this is still a significant upgrade to standard cruise control, and leaves room for us at dealerships to move people up in our product line to the Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go. Thanks for your comments!
@@BrantfordKia True, those are some really good points! I wouldn't mind halogen fogs since you can easily swipe the bulbs for LEDs which would make your car stand out just that little bit more in comparaison to the other Fortes with yellowish fogs :P I swapped the back turn signals for LEDs on my 17 Forte and it was surprisingly cheap! (Around 40$ for the parts and installation in a professional garage). If I am to get the new one in 2020, I'll swap everything for LEDs, including the license plate lights and I'm sure the after market will have an LED light bar which connects the rear lights (replacing the current non functionnal red bar).
Do you have any info on the Forte5? My dealer says that Kia will bring the european CEED like Hyundai brought the i30 and renamed it Elantra GT. I doubt it though because I think it will be too expensive (the CEED is designed and built in Europe) and the interiors aren't the same. I'm hoping they won't bring the K3 GT though! Look it up, it's quite ugly and looks like the spawn made by a Civic Hatch and a first gen BMW 5 series GT 🤢... but then again, it shares A LOT more parts with the sedan than the CEED does...
@Gamers paradise Epic I agree, but those were proper yellow lights. European vehicles did this for years. My statement was that the halogen bulbs don't produce enough noticeable light to be beneficial. I drive a 2020 Kia Soul right now, and it has white LED headlights, and white LED fog lights, and they work exceptionally well together.
Great video! I currently have a 2010 Forte and I’m looking to get into a new one soon. I’m hopeful that the Forte GT makes an appearance in Canada. Any info on that yet?
The Forte5 made it's debut at the Montreal Auto Show recently. I expect to see it at the Canadian International Auto Show this month. If there's any way for me to get a video of it, I'll do that.
Oh no! I hope your friend is ok!! The camera doesn't save a video file, it's only used in real-time to assist with safety features. So the short answer is that it does not record video to be used like you're hoping.
Can you describe in detail what Smart drive mode does? My theory is that Smart mode drives like Normal mode unless you press the accelerator hard and then it will drive like Sport mode. I'm not sure if it drives more economically than Normal mode if you're easy on the accelerator.
I may have to make a video on this, but essentially, you've simplified the answer to be correct. The Smart mode learns how you drive, and if you're driving economically, it will leave the car in eco mode, as you begin to get more aggressive, it will shift it into a sport mode. In the past, if you had the car in eco mode, some would feel that it would delay downshifting when, for instance, getting on to the highway. The smart mode allows the car to drive in eco, switch to sport, and switch back again with no intervention from the driver. It also changes the way the IVT transmission works. To put it simply, most people should drive this car in Smart mode for the best driving experience for most driving conditions.
@@BrantfordKia Thanks for the info and a video would be awesome. :) I've always driven manual transmission, so I just want to know how the car will respond to my inputs.
@@ybarsabal The car does have a manual shifting mode too. You can slide the gear lever to the left and it can change between gear ratios by tapping up or down on the shifter. So you always have that option. Test driving the car is the best way to know if it's right for you.
I just bought the EX Premium! Though quick question, how much different is the sound of the Harman Kardon speakers with the regular EX premium speakers?
On a scale of 1 to 10 the sound system is excellent. :) That's such a difficult thing to answer on UA-cam comments. The best thing to do is to bring your favourite music to us and sit in both cars back to back and see what YOU think of the difference.
The question about fog lights actually stumped me. Several of the launch edition models did have fog lights, but I don't believe any current Forte has the fog lights. The LED headlights are excellent, and the fog lights that were on the car were halogen, so perhaps they decided the fog lights didn't add enough extra light? I'm not sure.
Yes. Use your steering wheel controls to go to the settings menu in the centre of your dash. Scroll down to "other" and then you can choose "Temperature" settings, or temperature units (I can't remember the exact wording of this menu off the top of my head) and from there you can choose the unit that you prefer.
I work for Kia, I'm biased towards the Forte. Having said that, drive both! Ask questions! The Canadian Automotive Journalists called the Kia Forte a finalist for Overall Car of the Year after it won the Best Small Car category. The only cars that the Forte lost to were the Kia Stinger which won overall car of the year, and a Jaguar.
In Canada, if the car is equipped with an automatic transmission, it does. So that means every trim except for the very lowest level standard transmission has it.
Then you don't. If you're referring to the Smart Trunk feature, it's very easy to avoid tripping the system accidentally, and if you're still concerned you can turn the Smart Trunk feature on and off quickly from the driver's seat. It's a feature that you can choose to use, or not, at anytime.
This seems to be a common complaint, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence to support this. People see a blinking light, they know which vehicle it is attached to. Insurance rates for Kia are often lower than many of their competitors. I think people see something different, as dangerous, when there's no evidence to support the theory.
That rear view is very clear. I'm liking the value of this car more and more. Appreciate your videos.
Thanks for watching!
I got my forte yesterday. And I have to say that I am in love lol
Nice!
