Its not that he hates blender this is the truth ik the sour truth even many softwares are used that are not made by autodesk! Get this: Hollywood Standard: Nuke and Autodesk UA-cam Standard: Adobe and Blender
Blender, while not prevalent in the VFX industry is definitely showing some growth especially in VFX houses working on TV shows and streaming content and also in many movies' pre-production phase. I point mainly to Tangent Animation and Man In The High Castle. So no, Blender is not there yet... but in the next few years, it may just be on that list!
That's not true blender performs great in every computer. Also you should have a good computer to use for VFX if doesn't hold Blender than Maya of other don't even open
@@MrArtBes bro blender does run on low end pcs but its performance is poor. But that doesnt mean it will run on a pc with like 1gb or less ram with no graphics. What is this guy has the same problem?
Redshift and Octane are taking far more popularity these days, I would call them a standard for people working in motion graphics. Star Wars Rogue one had some Redshift rendering from outsourced contractors for instance, and that's film.
just to add to my comment, apparently octane doesn't support ACES color space, which would go on to confirm why it is a step behind Redshift in terma of production usage, but Octane is perhaps the beat entry level renderer, I would suggest it as the best way to start learning... Arnold is an industry standard, also vray is not half bat but more archviz in it's primary usershare, so I would actually call the industry now as: Redshift + Arnold whereas Renderman is more Pixar. Finally in the end the process is handles by thousands of specialized cpus and gpus in production, by softwate like deadline
@@justshady Redshift is very likely the most futureproof renderer to learn if you use Cinema4d, they are going to optimize it and likely other companies will fall behind in compatibility on the long run, ofc people will use it in Maya as well but I start seeing why Arnold is going GPU asap....
Those who say blender sucks, it doesn't. It's just that the people are habituated working with industry standards. Trust me, I've gone all through that. When I first used maya after learning blender, the maya ui, hot keys and navigation was so weird and hard. I thought maya sucks. But, now I don't. I suggest to start with blender, and then move to other applications. The knowledge of 3d is easily transferable. BTW, I use all the major applications nonetheless I use blender the most not because it's free but because it's powerful.
Im an animator and from my experiene I can say that After Effects is utilized quite a bit but is probably found more commonly in smaller boutiques rather than a major vfx house. A lot of animation job postings will mention AE experience is a plus.
It is very sad..it is a hell of a promising piece of software.. however it has enough on the most recent version so people can try for a start. Still it's not the same as working with a software that has an active development 😔
Get your heads out of blender's ass... 😑 As a user, blender is a fantastic tool and nobody can doubt in its power ... But in business perspective, it doesn't matter if your product is the best. You need to introduce it the best way you can. Autodesk is spending a huge budget at marketing, and that's why Maya has captured CG world. If you wanna enter the CG industry, learn Maya or wait 20 years for your PRECIOUS blender to make place in the industry...
Used Maya and Mudbox for several years - loved the software. Then one day Autodesk got rid of their perpetual licensing options. Now I’m a Blender supporter! (I’ll give the Blender devs the money I would have otherwise spent on an Autodesk perpetual license.)
I used all most popular programs and I love doing vfx the most. So I choose houdini. Truly the best 3D program for me. I love the node-based workflow so much. Can see everything and control everything. I love houdini’s procedural workflow. Also I like that it doesn’t have any plugins and doesn’t even need any plugins. Its simply the most advanced 3D software. I like both houdini and nuke. They have same workflow. Nuke is high-end vfx software and houdini is ultra-end vfx software. Combining both together, gives very perfect result in vfx. Fusion is amazing too. Its used a lot in many films. But now over the years, nuke is getting used more. Great video btw. I liked it so much.
Kinda surprised After Effects is not used in the industry. Also never knew how inferior it was compared to Nuke. But I can also say that in the "youtuber industry" After Effects is the standard for sure lol
Nuke was my first touch to node-editors apart from maya's old hypershade. Until that I had only used After Effects for simple compositing. My god, how great Nuke is to use. Seriously, it's almost unbelievable how nice it is. I was able learn it in a month to a level where I could make my own "node toolsets" for purposes like wire-removal and removing green screen. It was amazing to me how I could take a lunch break and keep thinking about various different ways I could solve a problem I had with the composition, just in my head visualising the processes and connections. I'd often try out of the box-ideas, just because it was easy and fast to test it after you could imagine it in nodes. Still no other node-editor has been as good; It's one of the things I miss the most about VFX industry.
he said that photoshop is too limited for large projects like hollywood movies. but he also said that they use it in smaller projects. but for vfx its not good he said. in a comment he also said that they use it for other things like hud, ui etc. but not vfx...
It is not a suprise that After Effects is not used more in hollywood: Big movie production needs quite a more powerful system for compositing than what AE can provide. And nodes beat the pants off layers any day. It is more complex, but also infinitely more powerful. As you can see in this list, specialization always beats more general tools.
The main reason AE isn't and never will be used for large compositions, is that it's a 2.5D tool, not a true 3D, like Nuke and Fusion. Also it's hard to do complex scenes with. Node based software is more powerful and you get far better overview over a project.
Ok as i see here is alot of wariors who think 1 program is better then another. But truth is that all programs good , but for specifig field. Maya ,Nuke Zrbush.. if you wanna work in Studios or Game dev... Unreal Engine for Game dev also... Hoodini i think its most powerfull soft in FX and Particules. If you know Hood. you can work everythere. C4d + Ae... if you wanna work in TV. Or small studios ... And Blender + davinichi + fussion if you are freelancing ...

IF you have a ton of money and are doing feature films they are good choices but when your on a strict budget Blender and Gimp along with Inkscape and Krita will do almost the same.
The software isn't that expensive any more, certainly not as much as the payroll cost. Of course there are free (as in beer and in speech) alternatives out there, but the commercial software still has the highest range of functionality.
@@HerrFlachpfeife I find Maya clunky and every plugin is an addon $$$, A studio can afford to spend the money but if your learning 3D, SFX , Masking, Video tracking. and more then Blender 3D is the way to go for learning. in fact one can create their own plugins with Blenders API. I tried Maya, 3D Studio Lightwave and Cinema 4D all have their pluses but in the long run are out of my budget.
Very well put. I agree with most of your points. However you did not mention Maxon Cineman 4D. I think C4D is a great software package. Well, Blender is a non-profit organization, so that's never going to happen. Companies don't buy other companies for non-profit. They buy other companies so they can make even more money.
Go for a HP Z8 workstation, that's usually the hardware the developers test against. Stay away from custom PC's, stability makes for better workflows rather than raw performance. That new GPU or CPU may sound good on paper, but usually the software performs better on tested components. A stock certified workstation will give you the best results period.
@@ebadullah677 No problem at all! I used custom PC's for my workflows, and realized how much better it is to use pre-configured workstations for VFX. I even worked closely with Autodesk and The Foundry's support teams to find the best solution for workflows, and came to those definite results.

Blender was used to make the Nxt Gen film.
why most of movie's credit goes to actors and directors and not the sound, video and vfx team
movies are just green screen without them
But they do
Because this industry is mysterious and people don't have any clue how it's done, so it would be pointless to start credits with:

FX Lead Matthew Smith
FX TD Jack Smith Anthony Smith Sarah Smith
FX Artists Jacob Smith Eric Jacobsen Igor Zlavic Peng Chen-hi Kumar Nguyen

@John Rambo sorry bro, but you're wrong. I use Blender too, but I understand that If you want to be employable, you need to use industry standard shit like 3ds max or maya. For that no need to pirate those shit, just use Autoshit student license and use their shit to learn it and get a job in some studio. If you wanna be an Independent artist and be able to make money from freelancing, for instance, without paying to Autoshit, then Blender is the best way to go.
@@SlayerDUDE1993 Oh yeah, I completely forgot about the student licenses. Honestly, the more software you know how to use, the more hire able you are. If you do freelancing, but decide one day to try to get a job at a studio, then learning industry standard software makes you way more hireable like you said. For instance, I need to learn Maya for rigging, since that is what I want to do. Right now, im a freelance guy, but my goal is to work at a studio. So, I gotta do what I gotta do. Blender is what got me where I am, but I also need to learn other software. Most of the skills transfer over, its the workflow and pipeline that is going to change though. For personal stuff, im probably going to stick with blender, but yeah, Maya is going to be used more at a studio so gotta learn it.

Blender, while not prevalent in the VFX industry is definitely showing some growth especially in VFX houses working on TV shows and streaming content and also in many movies' pre-production phase. I love VFX but unfortunately, my PC can't even manage Blender. Very poor performance
Blender can run with very low spec PC

Redshift is used at the mill.
As someone that started in C4D who then tried Blender & thought the same thing before ending up in Maya, I can 100% confirm that.

As a user, blender is a fantastic tool and nobody can doubt in its power ... But in business perspective, it doesn't matter if your product is the best. You need to introduce it the best way you can. Autodesk is spending a huge budget at marketing, and that's why Maya has captured CG world. Awesome video! I prefer using 3ds Max, love it for VFX. But I’d eventually like to crossover to Maya at some point.
Used Maya and Mudbox for several years - loved the software. Then one day Autodesk got rid of their perpetual licensing options.
Now I’m a Blender supporter!
(I’ll give the Blender devs the money I would have otherwise spent on an Autodesk perpetual license.)
Ditto, former Max user
Lmao stop with Blender, it's a great program but no big VFX company uses it.
They will use it!
Barnstorm VFX used Blender for Man in the High Castle on Amazon. I work for an NBA team and use it daily for FX/Mograph.
The thing is maya is extremely expensive, especially for someone who recently graduated from school having used it during a digital media course.
Thank you so much for the detailed information. Love from Nigeria!
YOU FORGOT AUTODESK FLAME COMPOSITING
There is no real standard for youtube industry
