Hello, I don't really know how to say it but my mother was reported like the following and doctor says a surgery is needed is a surgery really needed? is my question Report- -there is straightening of lumbar lordosis. -the vertebral bodies are normal in height and signal intensity. - L4-5 and L5-S1 discs are hypointense in T2WI. - L4-5 discs shows posterior bulging and left paracentral extrusion causing spinal canal stenosis. - L5-S1 disc shows diffuse posterior bulging with bilateral neural foraminal narrowing. -No osteophytes seen. -No evidence of spinal canal stenosis is seen. -Spinal cord, conus medullaris and filum terminal appear normal. -Longitudinal ligaments and ligamentum flava are normal. -Posterior elements appear normal. -Prevertebral soft tissue is normal. Impression: features are suggestive of- - Degenerative disc disease. - L4-5 disc posterior bulging and left paracentral extrusion with spinal canal stenosis and neural foraminal narrowing. - L5-S1 disc diffuse posterior bulging with bilateral neural foraminal narrowing. Is a surgery really needed? I would be grateful to you if u answer this Question. Thank you.
I have been diagnosed with L4 L5 disc bulges for the last 3 years, but my GP and Consultant never told me that my disc can heal and get better. Glad to find your channel. Appreciate your work. M
Hi Bob! I've been suffering from L4 & L5 disc bulge for last 8 mnths that happened at gym. Pain from lower spine goes to calf muscle. I consulted doctors, took therapy and did your shown exercises since beginning. But, it's still there. Will it ever go and I get back my normal spine again? All doctors said it will stay forever. Can't I get back to gym again or play football or go hiking?
Hey bro, can u plz suggest the best sitting position for person suffering from l5 S1, especially during studying where u have to sit for longer durations

Great information Bob, I’ve gained some weight due to life circumstance (that I’m working to get off) in the last year and I know my muscles are weaker. Because of it I have developed the worst case of sciatica that I’ve ever had! This video (and others you posted) have helped alleviate some of the pain while I work to get my strength back! First night of rolling and stretching and it has already made a noticeable difference. Thank you so much!

Thank Bob for your informative video, I have L4 L5 disc herniated and this information is really helping. I have one question, is disc herniated can be in the family. My dad and uncle both had them. Thanks.
Hi sir, i have a lower back pain for almost three years now, I did the mri last month and I the results was (L4-5: There is asymmetric loss of disc height and circumferential bulging with endplate spurs, with more prominent protrusion on the left side. L5-S1: There is slight disc desiccation and loss of height with mild bulging on the right side causing minimal right foraminal narrowing) I workout for 7 years and I have a strong core. I have pain when I sit for more then 10 minutes, and when I stand for a long time, and I do sometimes get like electric shocks in my lower back. Is decompression treatment/ therapy good for me??? However I don’t have that much pain now.
Sir can you put do, don't do position daily activities for cervical bulge and lumbar disc bulge problem .so that we can't develop further pain and complications sir thank you
Please watch this video and follow my tips, I have a video that I've recommended couple of rehab exercises for L4L5 L5S1 disc bulges have you watch that video? Bob
When you say that a disk bulge could heal by itself in 8 or 12 weeks , this not consider herniated disk with extrusion ? . I read that could take 1 to 3 years , depending if you have a correct fisioterapy . Thats right ???
Actually what study has shown so far the biggest the herniated or bulge is the quickest is the recovery !! I’m not only talking about research, my online and in clinic clients are recovering within 8 to 12 weeks, some even quicker. Having said that, you will recover no matter you believe or not :) I’ll be happy to help if you need any customised plan. Bob
Hi Doc, how are you? Its a great video but I needed to seek ultimate answers which I can't find in the UA-cam. My challenge is bulging on L4 and L5. I have few questions. 1. I need to compete for iron man in 2 years time, can I do that? 2. I always do sit up, crunches, etc for my abs before. Can I still do that? 3. Can I do push up and other exercise for chest? 4. Cycling? 5. Tennis? It has been 2 weeks after I was diagnosed with slipped disc. When is the best time for me to get on my daily routine.? For your info I do my physio exercise at home 2times a day/2 hours per session. Doc, I need ur expertise on this matter. Thanks a lot and glad finding ur video. Take care.
Hi Airul, I would be happy to help you with your questions. You can definitely do any exercise like push up and chest routine. My only concern would be if any number initially bother your back, don't try to force it and keep trying them. Slowely build up movement and gradually progress. I have a core strengthening exercises routine in my channel that you can use as an example. You can cycle and run !! again make sure you have a plan, progress gradually and step by step. Let me know if you have any other questions ? Bob
@@bobthephysio Thanks Bob for the reply. It meant so much to me. Currently I am on daily medication which I have to follow. Otherwise I could not tolerate the pain. I could say is sciatica. The question mark is if I follow the Dr description my body manage to absorb the pain and I can perform my indoor cycling and do eleptical machine exercise + other workout. However, if I don't consume any medicine the sciatica come and attack me which I have to lay down to make me relief. It is OK to push urself lightly doing the exercise when the pain absorbing by pain killer given by the Dr? I wonder and worry if it could damage my body cause the pain is taken temporarily away. Anyway, I will watch the core strengthing exercise from ur video to gain more knowledge. Thanks again, hope to see more video from you and wish u all the best and God will repay ur kindness.

@@bobthephysio yes I already seen the video. It really useful. Anyway my routine on physiotherapy is OK. In fact now every week will go for aquatheraphy session. Somehow the pain is slowly going off. For now only physio, nothing much. Next 2 months I will see my progress if can make a comeback for the tennis.

Hi there, thanks for the comment and I'm glad you find the video helpful :) that's a good question since many people my experience the same thing. I was told to stop all phisical activities .. no more yoga, no surfing, no cycling, only walking.. I am worried to be stuck with this in my future, I am only 20.. you mentioned swimming is good? I also have an inversion table at home ( doesn't go all the way to 90° but almost), would that help? or is it too soon to do it? im worried to worsen the situation. any suggestions would be so much appreciated. thank you for your help🙏🏼

I am 22. 4 months ago I was doing deadlifts, Flexed spine and got a warm liquid like sensation inside the right side of lower back. MRI reporting showed. Suffering from mild diffuse disc bulge and partial disc desiccation L4-5. Symptoms haven’t gone yet. What should I do?
How does a bulge heal? Does the disc go back to its place? Or what happens exactly? My Dr. Told me it doesn't go back to its place and exercises only reduce the stress on the spine and he told me that you should try non surgical decompression.
Hi Nasar, I will make a video to show you how disc heal itself!! the reality is that disc will prepare itself and get fully heald, and that reduce the pressure from the nerve !! you could try the non surgical decompression, however it's not gonna give you a permanent releave !! it's a short term!! the most effective thing that study has show is exercise and time !! it will help your body to repair itself 👍 Let me know if you have any questions. Bob

I have a diffuse disc bulge at l4 l5 my pain is just getting worse and recently I noticed sciatica pain to my left leg, I have seen 3 chiropractor and have done 6 sessions on traction table plus 4 sessions on Laser Class IV and one spinel decompression plus been doing physically therapy for over a month and my pain is getting worse I don't understand why, It been 5 months of constant pain

Hi Zubia, I would be happy to help you. That's a really difficult question, usually below 6mm diameter is considered as serious however many people might have no sign and symptoms but in some stage in life you get your MRI of your back and see the changes. You may have this for a long time without any problem but what orthopaedic suggest to prevent the serious side effects and go for surgury. My advice to my patient is to see what type of activities and sports they are going to do ? and based on that make a decision. Unfortunately you can't make the diameter bigger with rehab exercises, however exercises can help you with strenghynonh and mobility of the muscle around your back. Let me know if you have any questions. Bob
It just broke my heart that I cannot reverse this or make the diameter bigger😣 my orthopedic advised me to not bend forward and lift weights.. I fall from the stairs and then the back pain started so I get my MRI and bang I think m doomed.. so m really in a serious condition doc?? What would u suggest me to live a normal life again

Hello,
I don't really know how to say it but my mother was reported like the following and doctor says a surgery is needed is a surgery really needed? is my question

Impression: features are suggestive of-
- Degenerative disc disease.
- L4-5 disc posterior bulging and left paracentral extrusion with spinal canal stenosis and neural foraminal narrowing.
- L5-S1 disc diffuse posterior bulging with bilateral neural foraminal narrowing.
Is a surgery really needed?

L5-S1: There is slight disc desiccation and loss of height with mild bulging on the right side causing minimal right foraminal narrowing)

When you say that a disk bulge could heal by itself in 8 or 12 weeks , this not consider herniated disk with extrusion ? . I read that could take 1 to 3 years , depending if you have a correct fisioterapy . Thats right ???

Its a great video but I needed to seek ultimate answers which I can't find in the UA-cam.
My challenge is bulging on L4 and L5.

2. I always do sit up, crunches, etc for my abs before. Can I still do that?
3. Can I do push up and other exercise for chest?
4. Cycling?
5. Tennis?

When is the best time for me to get on my daily routine.?

Is it common to have constant foot numbness even though the pain has subsided? I have a disc issue and the numbness never goes away. can you comment on how long it takes for the numbness to go away? Really nice video. thanks for that.
Hi there, thanks for the comment and I'm glad you find the video helpful :) that's a good question since many people my experience the same thing. The good news is that when pain has been subsided it is an improvement in regards to your recovery, but in regards to numbness it can improve based on what you do daily and what exercises you are doing in a daily bases. My question is are you having any daily rehab program? and if yes do you mind tell me what are they ? Thanks. Bob

Hello Bob, I had an accident 6 months where it got hurt my lower back. So, I went to the doctor and had me done xray , it says that its that big deal just a nerve problem so he gave me medications. And I got healed a little for like 3 months but I hadn't picked any heavy objects though even after that healing. But seriously now it really hurts again now than before. Also I can't sit or stand much longer cause it lingers on my back. So this time I had an MRI. Idk, the report says something about L-4/5 asymmetrical disc bulge. I haven't met an appointment with any doctor though yet. Also Im scared what if the doctors recommends me to do surgery. I don't want to do it. It would be really hard for me right now. Hi bob! I would deeply appreciate your opinion on a couple things please.🙏🏼🙏🏼
I have a disc bulge located at L4 - L5 & L5 - S1 .. I first injured myself while doing Martial Arts back in April 2021, I didn't think it was that bad so never got it checked, the pain was getting better slowly and I thought I could get back to my regular activities, I then recently all of a sudden got all the pain back even worse, I had to stay 2 full days I bed, unable to move without extreme pain.
now it's been about a week, I can walk now and even drive my bike but still have to be extremely careful, pain is still there, even laughing too hard or caughing hurts ..
I would be happy to help. My question is have you done any rehab program or exercises for your back and what kind of symptoms are you having at the moment ? Bob
I haven't done any rehab yet, and the symptoms I'm experiencing is simply pain on my lower back, mostly on my left side, as I mentioned above even when I laugh or sneeze / cough too hard it hurts, I have pain in the morning when I wake up, and during the day if I drive too much I notice it's affecting me, but also if I stay still too long haha, when I stand too much it hurts also, it's also very energy taking, I feel like I need to focus my energy on important things only and then I feel like lying down .
in conclusion I have pain most of the time, someti it's very mellow and others its more.
hope this helps?

M just experiencing pain in back only not in hips and legs
You can definitely live a normal life, just you have to get a clear report what are the does and didn't and make sure to follow a rehab plan to improve your core strenght and overal movement, in my opinion.
Beside that, I would suggest you to watch this videos that I have answered 10 common question about disc bulges and back pain.

Hi Sathya, I would be happy to help you. There are couple of things I need to know before I give you any advice.
Does your back get sore or stiff, or does any special activity aggravates your pain?
What type of rehab exercises you are doing at the moment? and how long your have been doing this routine? does this exercise helped you ? Bob
IAM doing many exercise for lower back like bridge, Superman ,plank, stretches, abdomen strong making exercises, etc. It is helping me really. After doing those exercises my back becomes strong. I don't get pain if I be simply. But I can't workout like before when I run the nerves get irritated. Before it was paining more but after doing back pain exercises the pain has reduced. But I want to become like before. I miss my karate tournaments , workouts.
