Episode 15: Bairro do Avillez, Lisbon | Four Exciting Hotspots Under One Roof

“Spending time at the dinner table is a very Portuguese tradition. Nothing makes us happier than being in good company, sharing the dishes we like the most accompanied by the best wines and beer, and always with good conversation.” - José Avillez (chef, owner). Many years ago this venue was part of a monastery in the neighborhood Chiado in Lisbon. This hotspot is four restaurants inside one venue. The Taberna, Páteo, a restaurant for fish, shellfish, and seafood, the Pizzeria, and the Mini Bar, a hidden bar behind the big door in the back.
The Taberna serves traditional Portuguese flavors, reinvented in a relaxed atmosphere. For example, the red scarlet shrimp from the south of Portugal, grilled with our special sauce. Or cooked octopus served with kimchi sauce.
The menu changes quite a lot but the ‘bacalao al brass’ is a favorite. It’s flakes of cod, onion, egg, and fries, it’s delicious!
The Mini Bar is an intimate cocktail bar that serves craft cocktails and a bar menu. A few nights a week the bar turns into a club atmosphere with DJs and dancing!
The Pizzeria has a joyful and very laid-back atmosphere. The menu is great and perfect for sharing. Get the Grissini, thin and crispy house-made focaccia, tomato paste with mascarpone and basil, truffled butter, and marinated Galega olives. The pizza's crust is thin, and the ingredients stand out because of their flavor.
You can come here for lots of different occasions since the place has a lot to offer. Visit for a great time with friends and family or just have a nice dinner alone at the bar. You’re always welcomed with a big smile to have a good time and try delicious Portugal flavors.
