    The great Lennox Lewis.. the last great Heavyweight. It was a pleasure to watch this man fight and see him use the sweet science for such a large dude. In such a risky division, where its do or die, Lennox Lewis with his appreciation for the sport, not the fight, prevailed. Best heavy weight I ever seen in my lifetime.

      Good old nostalgia , I don’t remember at the time thinking he was the best ever , he was great in his period and a good solid fighter , but the real stand outs of all time are Ali and Mike Tyson that everyone remembers for a reason , maybe the difference was the charisma of the two I mentioned which was also standout .

    The lack of a jab is why Wilder is struggling now against other fighters. He is so reliant on his right hand that he just wants to go head hunting. Both Ali and Holmes had excellent jabs.

    • @serenityinside1
      @serenityinside1 11 місяців тому +1

      Huge Ali fan here but let’s be right about his jab : he had ONE jab with no variety . A fast flick to blind an opponent for the right cross mostly. No body jab at all / no ‘ ramrod’ jab etc etc. Larry Holmes / sonny liston etc etc jab wise he was not !!

    • @acetofresh1
      @acetofresh1 11 місяців тому +3

      @@serenityinside1Nonsense you never watched Ali. He had a very smart and one of the best jabs in history. He could throw swivel jab, flicker jab, and he varied the timing of the jab. He also threw the body jab often since Olympics 1960. Nonsense. You can watch Fayz Boxing breakdowns and see that’s not true. When he won gold he jabbed the body, one of the most prolific body jabbers.

    • @johnniea4684
      @johnniea4684 10 місяців тому

      I agree though I'd say it is just one reason why Wilder struggles. He took boxing up relatively late - around 18 iirc and if you start at that age you're not going to become a well-rounded fighter. Wilder has attributes and is a huge natural puncher, but he does so much wrong - he's too tight, bad footwork, shaky defence, poor combinations, lunges and - as you say, no jab. It is the most important punch in boxing. Without it it's tough to establish control of an opponent, for one.

    • @nicklubrino2606
      @nicklubrino2606 10 місяців тому

      In the 2nd Fury-Wilder fight, Wilder constantly jabbed to the stomach. It should have been a left hook to the ribs.

Train speed and no wasted movements and no notice. He is remembering to move and train upper body movement with bigger range of motion and faster. He is relaxing more In his neck.. and including his head much better. But there only were a few seconds. Getting close to Tyson, pendulum movements and instead of a Mike Tyson's strength and hooks he will use speed and straight and short and fast punches. Precise like a snake. Tyson I haven't seen yet, but he will train equally efficiently. Both have weaknesses but will they see each others?

    Bivol uses the jab better than Lewis ever did. Lewis' jab was effective because of his huge reach-advantage over everyone else. Bivol's jab has to be more skillful because he has short arms. He uses timing, footwork, setting traps, and perfect technique to jab his opponents' faces in for 12-rounds.

    • @Jimbo8012
      @Jimbo8012 11 місяців тому +1

      That's not strictly true. Lewis threw his jab in a pretty unusual way. He held his left hand close to his opponent's face and never brought it back to guard so the jab only travelled a short distance when he threw it. It was thus an extremely fast and accurate jab. Also, it wasn't telegraphed because it was thrown over a short distance and yet was still surprisingly powerful despite the lack of leverage. It was much more than a range finder jab.
      Lewis of course used his height and reach advantages but he also leveraged them further with unusual technique.

    Steve Bunce is right about Lennox, there is something regal about Lewis. He hovers over the ground rather than walks. And when he finishes walking you half expect him to be seated on a throne somewhere.
    It's really strange because he was not particularly loved in the UK when he was making his name. It took him a very very long time to get respect, but I'm not sure he ever felt the love.
    But far more important than all that? Physically he looks great. Boxing is a unforgiving sport with a history of sending so many of its great fighters to an early grave. Lennox looks radiant.
