Something I learned about is some ‘u’ blends like ‘す’ and ‘く’ don’t have the ‘u’ sound pronounced (ex:です) and ‘い’ can change the sound for some sounds like ‘さい’, ‘かい’, ‘kei’, and ‘がい’ (which are pronounced as ‘say’, ‘kay’, ‘key’, and ‘guy’). Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, it works like that. Though i is technically a differenr syllable,
Kai, bai, sai can be pronounced as kay, bay and say because it's just easier to do so.

Killua Zoldyck Yeah ‘i’ is, it’s like ‘y’ in English, but ‘y’ can be pronounced three different ways in English. I used ‘say’ for ‘sai’ because it is easy for me to think that way phonetically. I do the same for my students. For example, with the word ‘area’ I show them ‘air-ree-ya’ or for the word ‘breakfast’ I show them ‘brekfest’. It helps my students understand how to pronounce English words.

Why there is Moscow?? I don't think that comes anywhere close to be top 2000 most used or must know (implying more important than most commonly used words), discredits the entire arrangement.
Country capitals should not be on this list (maybe except for Japan's capital), I am certain it is not essential worlds that is necessary to learn to understand Japanese.
And what is the point of learning it, exactly?
A big let down from Pod101. I thought you were one of the best, to make such a mistake. Shame.
No seriously I have big respect for the Pod101 and value their quality language guides and videos, but not only this list of words doesn't have consistency between each other but also it includes words like Moscow, Sloth, Finland, Berlin, Mexico City, Jaguar, Squid.
It is also incoherent how some countries and capitals are included and some are not, and also rather rare animals are included, but common ones are not, and it would be much better if animals and countries and capitals would have video of their own, instead of being bundled here

危ない and 危険(な) are the same words essentially. Their only difference is that 危険 uses Sino-Japanese readings and thus as a word is historically older than 危ない. They're synonyms however. やばい is colloquial Jap. and also means dangerous / risky. You would avoid using it in formal speech and writing.
