Its not about guilt, its about responsibility, I never felt guilt for it, I do however feel a deep responsibility to do my best to not let such atrocities arise from Germajy ever again.
this. most germans (who care at all) feel that way. the idea that we supposedly feel guilt and should just shake it off is a myth propagated by the far right to provoke a counterreaction.
No, pls don't belive those leftist BS. We, germans got indoctrinated to hating everything slightly german from little on and 24/7 from the media. You are a good case to show that.
Germany has the specific background to be reminded about their responsibility. But to be fair, every country should have a responsibility to not let a holocaust or world war happen again
As a German, "Happy anniversary for the liberation of Auschwitz" sounded very cringe to me. But fortunately you somehow noticed that yourself. It's a date to remember terrible things and to mourn the victims. Never again!
Some countries in UK can vote if they are residents, without citizenship. Eg. Poland. Not sure why only some can, but as Polish citizen and resident in UK for the last 15 years it was the first time we could vote in general elections
Just wanted to add that "local" means council elections. Scotland also let non-British residents vote on the independence referendum. But they don't get to vote in general elections.
I love your thoughtful, nuanced, and even humble approach to these topics. Through all these videos, you have probably already become one of the best-informed Americans about Germany.
Musk telling Germans, that the should 'get over their guilt', shows that he knows nothing about Germans. We - in general - don't feel guilty, we feel responsible to not repeat the same mistakes. There is a MASSIVE difference.
You are trying to virtue signal by "mincing words" ... and personally I am not responsible for what others did 80 years ago. I am only responsible for what I do now.
@@Muck006 Exactly! You are only responsible for what you do. That includes the things you do or don't regarding the way the society, you live in, develops. The actions you take (or don't) better be informed by past events, regardless of you personally partaking in any of the events.
@@Muck006 And you are responsible for avoiding the repetition. And here's the connection: there is a party trying hard in dehumanizing humans and trying to shift moral and ethic borders in language and thinking. There is a general feeling of disgust amongst my German frìends and aquaintances that Musk spoke at an AfD rally yesterday about stopping apologising for mistakes made years ago. That he spoke on the day world leaders (except Trump) had gathered at Auschwitz to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps was particularly upsetting.
Then your friends are weird. You should be happy he sides with the only party in the country that prevents us from becoming an islamic third world nation.
The thing is, we shouldn't apologize for what our ancestors did. It's more important that we don't forget and never allow something like that to happen again. Nothing like that should ever happen again anywhere in the world. That's why such commemoration days are so important and it's all the worse that people like Musk come up with such crap and make fun of it.
@@Amron-Lp Well currently it's the peoples of Europe who get kind of dissolved. A different sort of crime but still a crime. So we should vote AfD and stop this once and for all. It would also be a crime if we made Africa or Arabia white and replace the indigenous people there.
You need to understand that politics in most countries works differently than in the US. The AfD doesn't have a chance. Even if they would become the strongest party, they wouldn't have a majority in the parliament and no coalition partner so they can't be part of the government or appoint a Chancellor.
We dont have to get over past guilt...we are. BUT what can NEVER happen is that we forget the Horrors of world war II. Not just in Germany, but in all countrys involved. The r*pes of the victors...the japanese Camps in the US... The list is long and horrible. War is hell. Never forget. Never repeat

tbf I moved to saxony(for other reasons) and I stay to give at least one more vote against the AfD and my sib who lives in thuringia does pretty much the same. it's just moving between regions, but who's to say it has to stop at the country border? as long as it helps to stomp the far-right from growing more I honestly wouldn't even mind ... but the entire situation also has me rather desperate. plus the Musk man himself also took it upon himself to meddle in our election via the AfD. which is actually if I'm not mistaken one more reason to ban them as a party
You mean dutch-african? His family is from The Netherlands and if black Americans are called African-American because they originally came from Africa you should call him Dutch-African lol
@@psilovecybin5940 you are right by semantics. But as they are not even real immigrants and just came there by colonization, I will just call him that.
@@psilovecybin5940 that kind of misses the point though. He himself would hate to be called African American even though he technically is. Calling him Dutch just doesn't have the same effect. And if you only define it by where someone's ancestors are from then you could eventually call anyone African if you just go back in time far enough.
the reason why those poll numbers scare people is that there is a small chance that the CDU/CSU and the AfD could form an alliance and thus have a permanent majority for the votes in the parliament. They previously ruled a coalition out but you never know these days...
a small chance? Uhm, I don't think its that small anymore given how Merz is behaving right now. Lets hope that he grows a conscience until tomorrow and NOT propose those two law changes. As the AfD will vote yay and we will have the harbinger of the CDU/AfD Coalition.
There is not much the public could do in that case. A bunch of CDU politicians would leave the party and the public would demonstrate, but they have the majority for 4 years. But it's basically suicide for the party. In the next election nobody would vote for the CDU anymore, they either vote for the AFD because they liked the politics they made, or they vote for a different party because they never wanted that and feel betrayed.
@@CathrineMacNiel well, tackling the same topics doesnt necessarily mean they would form a coalition. Lets be honest, a lot of people want exactly those types of legislation being passed, so Merz is just snatching the low hanging fruits. Having all members of the parliament vote on a proposal is normal procedure and not anything to worry about per se. My biggest fear is the temptation of being the two biggest parties getting together, not whether the Union is doing the same politics, obviously a bunch of people want it...
In Sweden it's totally forbidden to keep strollers in stairways or other bulky stuff because of fire hazard problems. I like this rule actually. It not only is more safe it's so darn great for the feeling of clutter as well. And in a way it forces people with kids to try and find an apartment that can keep the strollers indoors. Most strollers in Sweden are also foldable to save up space. In the first months of an infants life I guess most Swedes use the stroller-bed as a bed in the apartment if you have too tiny apartment and wait for a switch to a bigger one.
Generally, this applies to germany too. Emergency exits always have to be clear of obstacles. This includes hallways. In many buildings, there is a bigger empty space on the ground floor. Putting something there does not violate these protective laws. "Hausverwaltung" is german for "property management". They know the safety plans and are the ones who need to make sure tenants follow them. Since they allowed strollers to be placed in that specific spot, it has to be a spot, where it does not bother the regular stair case and emergency exits. Considering the aggressive situation, this seems like it calls for a tenant meeting organized by the property managers. They need to make clear, that the strollers are allowed. I would also assume, that who ever put up the handwritten note, did not use gloves to write and put it up. So if the tenants find a police officer with some time, they could get fingerprints of everybody and compare to the note.. Considering personal property (the stroller) has been damaged, it would be a valid step to take if the owner of the stroller were to report this.
Stairs should be kept clear for emergency reasons- blocking the way. strollers/ pushchairs can be folded and I'm sure can also be kept in doors. Can't fully see from the photo though, how much space is around. However if it doesn't follow the community rules ...
@@NigolasyIt is no valid step to take finger prints from innocent neighbours. The Tennant should not allow it. If really a fire occurs and people press some in the trolley they might be hurt. And the stroller might even be pushed in the way of running people.
@@Nigolasy Its not only because of obstacles, its also because of fire hazard, but there is no clear federal law, every county has its own laws. But what is definitly not allowed, to chain a stroller to the staircase, anything stored in the stairways has to be moveable by anyone is nescessary.
6:55 It is an European Union thing. Every EU citizen is allowed to vote for local (city council and stuff like that) and EU elections, when living for enough time in Germany. They got used so much to being able to vote, now some are complaining that they are not allowed to vote on the German federal election. It is literally the opposite of what Muskievicz is doing. He meddles in other countries elections. They would like to be able to vote, where they live.

My problem with the public discussion of the stabbing incident: Due to election battle, politicians AND media focus on the aspect, that the offender is an asylum seeker. For my logic, we have to put the fact "diagnosed mentally ill and not in surveillance" on priority. How is it possible, that he was dismissed from treatment multiple times, although he isn't verifiably sane? The focus on the provenance of the offender is not the crucial topic to talk about (only for election campaigns). Or does anyone think, "mentally ill Germans" are behaving better than "mentally ill non-Germans"..? 🤨
Same with femicides - if a woman is killed by a non-German there are outcries about "Ehrenmord" and such things. Well, nearly every day a woman is killed in Germany, most of the time by current/former partners or family members, and there's no uproar, barely any attention is paid to that in media or the public.
No, the focus needs to be on that the asylum seeker already was under surveillance and ready to be deported. Our police just seems to be incompetent in that regard.
the only difference is that as German you have it way easier to get treatment. What did the police expect to happen when they release a violent man again and again. He should have been in the psych ward ages ago.
Well, in some cases, strollers being parked in stairways can pose a hazard in case of a needed evacuation. Imagine there is a fire and firemen try to make their up in thick smoke to rescue people and they trip over carriages. This is not the case here, apparently, especially since they have the building manager‘s approval, but, in general, these kind of obstructions can be dangerous depending on where they are…
While I agree, I think it should be the other way around. If you live here, work here and pay taxes here, then it should be way way easier and faster to get citizenship, which would then allow you to vote.
If you make this a logical "And" condition, that would mean that non-working people or people who do not pay taxes were not allowed to vote? That would mean that poor people can not vote?
@tobiasbayer4866 I dont know if it has to be easier or faster, but I agree that becoming a citizen will give them the right to vote. There is no need to give general access to everyone.
And whenever these days i hear Trump talk about "deportation" i also think "Ausschwitz" as the end target because that all also started as "deportation".
I really appreciate this fence, which in German is called “Doppelstabmattenzaun.” Adding privacy strips is a great way to make it more private, and you can find them in many different sizes.
To me they are looking like prison. Plants would level out the wierd look but this strips don‘t. No living animals there, only metal and plastics. No gateway for hedgehogs. These people are only demanding even more space and spreading death instead of giving back something for nature. I can see this all over my neighbourhood.
To become canceler you still need more than 50% of the vote. No party is even close to that, and that is a good thing. The result of the vote will lead to a coalition. Most probably CDU + SPD or CDU + the Greens. Both options would probably lead to Merz becoming chancellor. No party wants to do a coalition with the AFD. That is the reason for Weidel not having a chance. The problem of a AFD with a high percentage is that it could make many coalitions impossible. That was also the reason for the, now failed, traffic light coalition. No coalition of only two parties would have worked out. And getting three parties that have different interest to work together is a problem. We can only hope that more people understand that the AFD is a Nazi party and not just proud Germans as Musk seems to proclaim.
It's not a Nazi party, extraditing people is not the same as killing people, do you understand your own history? You will loose anyway, Merz already said he will do the migration laws together with the AfD, so keep crying, we will not stop until we successfully protected our homeland. What's your answer to migrant crime? "We have to stand up against everything right-wing".
Neiter black red nor black green have a majority according to the polls though. They would need a black red green coalition for that and in that coalition, the CDU will die. I even doubt that a black red green coalition would survive for 4 years and at that point, the AfD will be at >30% which basically means blue black.
The AfD doesn't have a chance not only because the lection is near but also because its a multiparty system where you have to have coalition partners and their limited voter potential. Voter potential means that voters have essentially a list which party they would support if they couldn't vote for their favorite party. A lot of people who vote for the greens might vote for the SPD. The SPD has a big overlap with the CDU in potential voters, same with the FDP. We have numbers on those potentials and the AfD is pretty much maxing out on theirs. This is true because their rhetoric is pretty much opposed to the existing parties on a fundamental level to attract protest votes and non-voters but this essentially destroys their potential for actual power. They would need to pivot to the centre over several voting cycles to achieve that but but they are still doing the opposite. In the US on the other hand Trump was able to capture one party and more centrist right wingers had to fall in line since it is a two party system. In a multiparty system centrist can just vote for a different centrist party if their favorite one moves to far in one direction.
A multiparty system doesn't protect against dictatorship, nor does the need for coalition partners because you "max out below 50%", nor do "centrist" parties. On November 6th, 1932, in what came to be the last free election in Germany before 1949, the NSDAP got 33.1% of the votes (and roughly, seats). Guess what: the Zentrumspartei and the NSDAP held official coalition negotiations. Which in the end didn't succeed. In the subsequent rigged elections of March 5th, 1933 the NSDAP yet again failed at obtaining absolute majority, they needed a coalition partner and got them. They mystified this as "Machtergreifung".
Some countries allow non-citizen to vote in a limited number of elections (generally mayoral) when they have lived long enough in the country without problems. Ireland allows it for non-EU members. But most EU countries limit it to EU-members citizen. Some cantons in swiss do too, even if they aren't in the UE. Commonwealth citizens have some voting rights in the UK, too.
The "joke" is that the guys from the AFD get offended whenever they get compared with the NS party from WW2 days. Yet the the heads of their party keep saying stuff like them. Alice Weidel said that Adol H. was a Socailist, which once again was a atempt to talk small that he was a monster who did horrific things.
To the Question who will be next Chancelor: The Chancelor is elected by the majority of a parleament. The majority is normaly the coalition who form the government. The previous coaliton was the "Ampel" of CDU/CSU, SPD and FDP. Right now CDU are predicted to achieve 30%, AfD with 19%, SPD with 16% and Greens with 14%. For other parties it isn't even clear, if they get into the parleament, because they might don't hit the necessary 5%. Since all parties with less than 5% don't get into parleament, At least 45% maybe 40% of votes should be enough to form a majority in the Parleament. No one (exept AfD) want a coalition with AfD. So CDU and AfD won't work, even if they have 49% of votes together. So other options are CDU and SPD or maybe even CDU and Greens. And the bigger party (based on votes) in a coalition is the party who will have the chancelor. And with 30% the CDU will have by far more votes than green or SPD --> There seems to be no other options than a CDU Chancelor --> Merz. I hope i could kinda explained it. A bit confusing
Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp because it consisted of several camps. It started with Auschwitz I (Stammlager) for Polish forced laborers. Auschwitz II Birkenau is actually the part that most people mean when they talk about Auschwitz. That's were they built the gas chambers to systematically kill people. There were also subcamps near enterprises who needed their own forced laborers. There were other camps in Poland that were only built to kill, called Vernichtungslager (extermination camp). Some only consisted of a train station and gas chambers (Sobibor, Treblinka).
German voting law is convoluted, to say the least. The report most likely shortened a fact for clickbait: EU citizens are, as of 1992, eligible to vote on a communal level (think city council and/or county level), as well as voting for the EU parliament. If they do for the latter, they're not elligible to also vote in their home country. On state level, they are not allowed to vote. Only people from outside the EU are not allowed to vote at all. So yes, if you are 18 years of age, have a german 'Personalausweis' and therefore are a German citizen, you can vote on any level.
1:09 when Auschwitz was built the region had already been a cultural part of Germany for a long time it was only after the second World War that area was given to Poland. The Poland that was occupied by the Germans was further east.
Ngl Elon Musk needs to effing keep his nose out of our politics and go back to managing his car company. When he did his Hitler salute and people were defnding it by saying there was context - yeah, this is the context! He's endorsing far right parties everywhere, what more do people need?
8:29 Why we germans love this kind of fense? This thing is build from several parts. All is covered with anti rust paint, and you put them together by screws. It is a stable construction. If one part gets damaged, you change only those parts. The costs are kinda low for this long life fence. AND if you want, you can mount privacy protection or even solar panels. This kind of fence is the best solution for anything. Even hording animals.
Strollers in the hallway of an appartment building are not a good idea. It has something to do with fire safety. In the event of a fire, everyone must be able to escape through the stairwell, wheelchair users too, for example. Any obstacle or tripping hazard can become a death trap in such a panic situation. These regulations were literally written in blood. People died because they didn't exist yet. It's not something that some crazy dude just came up with after a long night out. (Even if it sometimes sounds like it. 😂)
Thing about living in the EU is: We have freedom of movement. There are many familys in Germany, etc. who have been there for more than 60 years with another european nationality. The only difference is they can not vote in the country they live in, but the country their family comes from.
10:00 In germany, citizenship is not determined by jus soli (place of birth) as in the US, but by jus sanguinis (nationality of the parents). There are therefore people in germany whose families have lived in germany for generations who do not have german citizenship. These peope pay taxes, are part of the german society. Why shouldn't they be allowed to vote?
@@jbp246 They're registered here and everything. I don't see any need for these people to have German citizenship in order to be able to vote. The subject of citizenship seems a bit old-fashioned and out of date to me anyway.
I'm not German, but I learned that Auschwitz was not just a concentration camp, it was famous because it was the biggest death camp. These only existed outside the borders of Germany, for plausible deniability... I learned this from visiting Dachau 10 years ago, which was Hitler's model concentration camp, and all others should be based on it. It's the only camp still nearly entirely intact, and an absolute must see to anyone that has the opportunity to visit Munich.
It's a bit difficult with the strollers. They can't block the way in case of emercencys. Sometimes there is a little space to park them, at least for 1 person. I carried the stroller into the bassement when my child was small
I didn't watch your video yet, but I just read interesting news. European Coca Cola producing company just pull theyre drinks from shops. 6:55 i retract my former Statement as i read other comments and thought that there would be no optional text to it. But yeah, in this case, if the Property management allows it, that letter and the vandalism are absolutely a No Go and you have every right to report the person that did it. If it is a dead Space that doesn't obscure a person, its even fine and in line with the Fire protection reasons if that is the case. in This case, having the property Management look at it and potentially throw out the one yielding KNIVES in an APARTEMENT BUILDING.
I am a native german. In my school years (80s & 90s) i had to visit those damn WW2 museums, and honestly, we hate them. We were happy kids in that times, and had to visit those depressive locations. And today i hate that even more. The only museum that was kinda cool was on the Usedom Island of Mecklenburg Vorpommern. Honestly, remove all that old WW2 buildings and build something there, what we need today. That is the way to get over that guilt of that times. That is 4 generations back from me. 6 from todays. It's finally time to forget that WW2 crap. WW1 wasn't better, i know, but we have nearly no museums for WW1. That stuff is somehow integrated.

6:30 In germany certain kinds of doctors and buisnesses are allowed to be inside multi story residential buildings That sometimes causes the problem that if you have a stroller you need to park it somewhere before you are able to move forward But the problem is you cant really park it somewhere, so you put it wherever is space, which sometimes might be in the way This causes places to ban the parking of strollers, or tge instalation of special parking zones I think the situation in this video is that there is one of those places which attracts people with strollers, and they have designated that small area as a parking space But one of the persons living there consideres them "in the way" because they take up some space, even though they are in a unused corner of the stairwell, this thinking they are wronged
Regarding the terrorist and knife attacks in the past days/weeks. It is very obvious that we have a huge problem in our internal security structure. One department does not communicate information to another one (in kind of a centralized database) and it is very inefficiently gathered and stored locally in the City or state register of that particular branch (police/department of asylum/medical facilities/and so on). Also, no one feels responsible cause everyone is pushing the ball around until one of those loonies breaks and ruins it for all of us and the many valid and calm asylum seekers and war refugees, that are dependent on our help. People need to know who is responsible for letting one like him run around freely and without any supervision and demand action. But what is happening now is, instead of changing the order of communication, of reforming the digital government and how data is shared, they just go the easy way, we halt all asylum entries and send all back to where they came from. Problem solved...or is it? In the end what frustrates me most is, that real change is never going to happen as long as politicians just use those incidents for their gain and winning the next election. It cannot be a solution that is long term, cause they are only elected for 4 years! Imagine if another party claims the "victory" after the one in charge got booted again. Unthinkable!
I share your accessment. But even if all the clocks work together, germany does not deport to afghanistan, so either we send him to jail or push him over the boarder. We can not do either. So unless we start to deport there is nothing any department can do.
There was a debate about giving voting rights to non-germans with a permanent residency status, but honestly I can't think of a country that currently allows for that. More interestingly is that German non-residents have not received their mail-in ballots yet and the schedule for sending them out and returning them will be more than tight in some cases.
The problem with the Aschaffenburg attacker was that he was known to be mentally ill, but seemingly nobody looked in his case deep enough to determine the danger level to himself and others. We know that many people who fled from Afghanistan or similar countries or situations are traumatized by their experiences before, during and after their escape, but the authorities (not only in Bavaria) do allocate too less personnel and resources to provide medical examination (and help) for those people, which means that their condition is in many, many cases worsening until to a point they are becoming a danger to the general public. Instead they talk only of deporting them, which is often legally and technically complicated, takes time, and does nothing to reduce the danger posed by those persons (only maybe moving it for some time to another country, often still within the EU). This NIMBY approach (in Germany called Saint Florian principle after the patron of firefighters and the ironic saying: "Dear St Florian, spare my house, set others to fire") does help nobody in the end.
People like you, wo try to enpathize with psychopaths who shouldnt be here in the first place have blood on their hands. Its a muslim problem. 70 to 80 percent of prisons and crime are excusively them. they travel 3000km cause they see us as weak and easy to exploit. And you are proving them right.
My Oma is from Beuthen (Bytom) and had to flee in April 1945 when Germans were forced out. She and her brothers definitely did not talk about that time period.
edit: I just saw it was allowed to be there, so the person doing the damage had no right to do it. Just wanted to keep the original comment either way if someone might find that topic interesting. Original post: I don't agree with the violentact of destroying/damaging a stroller, but I want to explain the issue here: I guess they are in the pathway/corridor conecting several apartments, or in the stairway. Often these places can be really tight. For Example it's not possible to pass a "parked" stroller with another one. Often it's against the rules to put ANYTHING there. You can get problems, by just having a smal plant or decoration during holidays... (It's a rule, due to safety. In case of a fire or something else, the "escape routes" need to be free of stuff and open. So there are rules against parking your strollers. Sometimes, there is a wide space, where you can ask the homeowner, if you can park them there (I have a rollator and if I would wish to, I could put it right next to the entrance. But I prefer having it in my appartment). But in the image it does remind me of many tiny anf cramped hallways. So the issue might be, that people have to maneouver around the strollers, or have issues passing them, when carrying something or such. Of course you can't really tell. It's just my guess. I can understand why someone put a paper with the reminder on there (not the damaging, though!), but I know as well, that especially in big cities, the apartments are often tiny and there might be no space to park it there. So I can see both sides. It's just a bad situation for all parties... On the paper in the image, there is written "last warning" at the end, and the person being bothered by it, took it litteral with a knife. Don't think this is a solution. In an old appartment, I lived in the past, we had a similar issue and we solved it by keeping a space for strollers open in the room, that's especially for parking your bicycle. It's often outside the house and so seperate from the tiny spaces within. Like a garage, but with a normal door instead of a garage door and every one has a key to that room and can put their bicicles there - and in my case back then the strollers, tricycles as well
About the stabbing incident - I'm in no way saying that every asylum seeker is a criminal. But I think every psychiatrist can tell you, that people who grew up with completely different ethical values, who then witness war, death, poverty, etc which comes with PTSD and other emotional trauma, need extensive therapy. Living with others with the same struggles, no therapy, no distraction by working, experiencing a culture they can't understand is a receipt for disaster.
The problem in many German residential buildings is: it is not allowed to leave anything in the hallway because of the risk of fire. I guess this is the case here with the strollers. Some Germans live very strict to the rules... some overdo that really hard.
All EU citizens living in Germany can vote in local elections and also in state elections. To vote in the national elections you have to be a German indeed. But the Scholz government relieved the option to get german citizenship enormously. Living 5 years in Germany you can moving for a german passport. In special cases even after 3 years. And if you want you can retain the passport of the country where you come from. This "double citizenship" however is definitely controversial in the german citizenry, and if the CDU will win this election at least they may reform this statute. And the far-right AfD was and is strictly against the opportunity of double citizenship and would cancel it at once. They say, 'you can't serve two masters'. And about the half of the people think so too.
In Germany, the chancellor election is usually predictable, as the chancellor is appointed by the strongest party in a coalition. Ideologically impossible coalitions, such as the AfD with the SPD, Greens, BSW and FDP, make it almost inevitable that Merz will become chancellor - even with a strong AfD result. The few percentage chances for another chancellor would likely only arise if the AfD forms a minority government or achieves an absolute majority.
The more critical (and some say illegal) part is that basically all Germans outside the country can't vote by mail, because of the time frame being too short, although it could have been organised weeks ahead. Besides people living and working abroad this includes also military personal on missions (field mail can't do it), ship crews and basically everyone who is not present on election day or four weeks prior.
You need to get a new perspective. Germany is still among the safest countries in the world. In a country with 84 Million people, crimes happen every day. Statistically, someone gets murdered in Germany ever one and a half days. That sounds a lot but it isn't. Interestingly the news only pick up the case when foreigners are involved. Did you hear that a German man just killed two children with a car? Or that a mother killed her own 6 and 7 year old children? No you didn't. Cause big news outlets don't pick that up. You should either stop following news so much or dig much deeper and look up statistics.
I agree that these things are all very sad. But what about Magdeburg? An obvious mad person. Fancying AfD ideas. Living in Germany for about 20 years. Working as a psychiatrist....
You said (with Musk): "maybe he would move to Germany". For me it´s a nightmare to put a child into politics, No, I don´t want him here! He´s acting like a toddler 😱
Regarding the stroller topic: This is the perfect moment for you to learn about the words "Korinthenkacker" and "Blockwart". Two words for a particularly negative and nasty type of German. 😓
another thing i get worried about with such incidences is the instant utilisation of antimuslim racism, often paired with the thesis that antisemitism is imported in the form of muslims. While in truth we no difference between antiisrael and antisemitic, which prevents the government from adressing the actual hate against jewish people.
No, strange is the opposite: Eg you are American living abroad and being allowed to vote in a country they do not live in. Whereas people allowing to vote where they live independently of having a passport from that country or not.
Zeg nooit nooit.
Well in Germany you have to be a citizen to vote in Federal elections. But there are other countries that handle it different. The question is, what should be the basis to a right to vote. For example, should a person that is German citizen, but lives and works in another country for 15 years be allowed to vote, while another person, that is not a German citizen, but lives and works (and pays taxes) in Germany for 15 years is not allowed to vote?
The Bavarian state is at fault for not deporting the Afghan. He didn't get accepted to stay, he wanted to go home, they didn't let him go, they basically held him hostage and now this happened. The blame is clear.
At this point, you are more informed about Germany than most Germans. Will we see a move soon? There is a lot of English-speaking jobs here for a potential partner. 😂
Well Ryan, to your words at 3.50 min, "when you are good to Asylum seekers as a country, and some....does something like this!" It´s not just "some"! We don´t know at all, who is in the country, the age, which country are they truly from without papers! How many "sleepers" are we giving refugee? How many of them are crimnals fleeing their country because of that? We don´t know! All the cases are summing up more and more to show, that they are not unfotunate individual cases anymore, like they make us belive! Most of the "smaler cases " are not even reported, only in local news with two sentenses! And for the "word for sunday"... I think of myself as a decent woman. You don´t need to be too inteligent but someone who has common sense and speeks out what went wrong. Exactly that is, what is not wanted right now! Critzise some laws who obviously make no sense anymore and you are shoved to the far right, or even been called Nazi! This is the way to silence people if you don´t want to discuss obvious mistakes or can´t endure rightful critics! Exactly such a quote is too easy said and shows that you can´t have your own opinion, without beeing right winged! I might be bashed for that, but that is my free opinion! We stil have this, doesn´t we?
10:20 I think if someone really lived somewhere for a long time and pays taxes there, why shouldn't they be able to vote? I have lived in Germany for a decade now, I have a full time job. I haven't given citizenship a thought because I'm from another EU country so it wouldn't really give me much more benefit. So it is kind of funny to me I'm not allowed to vote here, while I am allowed to vote in a country I left 10 years ago and only go visit once per year on vacation.
If i understood correctly Australia has decided officially to limit the amount of money than can be " donated" - i imagine to try to avoid influence on their elections re Musk. If this doesnt exist in the EU yet, it should and unfortunately ' tracking' on these donations should be strict. Persona non grata/ sanctions against lobbyist companies etc?
I have lived in germany since I was 4 years old. I for a long time I didn't want to be a German Citizen because of my abusive german stepfather. Now I am 29 years old and have been on a waitlist for citizenship for 3 years. I can't vote even though I have been paying taxes in germany for half of my life. This election could end up changing my life and I have no control over it. Best I can do is educate people and promote the party I support. There are a lot of people like me in germany, with a slightly different story but nevertheless
Why should people not having the citizenship of the country be able to vote. Good question, this is a topic in Luxembourg as well, I know we are a tiny country, but we a) have a lot of residents not having the Luxembourgish nationality and b) thousands of cross-borderers from France, Belgium and Germany coming to work every day (to give you a number, about 230.000). Currently only residents with the national citizenship have the right to vote, at least for national elections.
Why are you sorry about Musk "meddling" in our politics? You are also publicly presenting your opinions about german politics, just in a different direction. You are a hypocrite.
the usual procedure after a Federal Election in Germany: after the results are definite, one of the parties will have the most votes. This party usually is declared the "winner" of the election and has leadership claim. Yet in most cases this majority is but a simple majority and not an absolute one, which would be needed to get the majority of seats in the Bundestag and become the exclusive governing power. That means this party needs to form a coalition with at least one other party to get more than 50% of the seats. Hence this party will then have exploratory talks with other parties to find out whether or not there's enough overlap in their ideas and few enough compromises they'd have to make. If these talks are not successful, they'll try their luck with another party. Sometimes all talks fail and the runner-up gets the chance to become leader of a potential coalition. It's a rare occurence and I don't think it's ever happened on a national level but it is possible. Another possibility is the formation of a minority government, tolerated by some of the parties of the opposition (always risky). If no coalition can be achieved, there'll be new elections yet again (much to the disdain of the electorate). So far, none of the traditional parties have expressed their willingness to coalise with the AfD, so even if they get the second highest amount of votes, they'll most likely be excluded from any exploratory talks and the CDU (most likely the winner of the next election) will try to talk to the SPD and/or the Greens. (this is not taking any political stances but rather trying to predict what's gonna happen, so spare me the commentaries)
Of course this happend. Under chancellor Schmidt from the SPD they formed a coalition with Genschers FDP, although the CDU/CSU had almost reached the absolute mayority. The Bundestag had only this 3 (4) parties back then.
There are two different polls going around here in Germany. The one where they asked X people who should be chancellor and the one where the voted party is asked. Merz from CDU loses votes to his person being chancellor but with CDU being the most voted party in the polls, he will be chancellor. E.g. the candidate from the greens has like 20-25% votes for being chancellor but the party itself doesn't have the votes so he won't be chancellor.
Im pretty sure he could technically be chancellor, as far as I am aware the party with the most votes doesnt have to get the chancellor, its just very very unlikely they would agree to let someone else be chancellor. But not theoretically Impossible.
looking at chanceller probability does not make too much sense as people do not vote for a chancellor directly, but vote for parties who have to form a coalition. the actual interesting question is which coalition will be the next government. probably cdu-spd or cdu-green. if it ends up being cdu-afd then that would be a huge win for the afd, even though the chancellor would still be friedrich merz. this is very unlikely but not impossible, and is a VERY different election result. but in that poll youre looking up that is just listed in the same 95%.
Well if you are legal resident and you pay your taxes just like everyone else, why wouldn’t you be allowed to vote? In UK for example you can, if you meet certain criteria (have a required residency status and are from certain countries in EU)
In my opinion, people with permanent residence permits should also be allowed to vote, at least at local level. I mean, you've often been in the country for a long time, you're influenced by politics (e.g. when it comes to tax matters) but you're not allowed to have a say. As I said, at least that's my personal opinion. And you can keep Elon in the US, let him interfere in your politics as much as he wants, but keep his nose out of here. That would be fantastic. I really despise him for his actions, he's totally nuts.
Please take Elon back to the states.. is’t their some minister position waiting for him 😌 It’s so sickening that Auschwitz survivors speak in the Bundestag about their horrors and Elon Musk almost at the same time to people that want to deport migrants ..again!
Musk is not wrong. This country needs a drastic change. Absolute every aspect of a country got worse in 15 20 years. From infrastructure, the economy to everyday safety. And i will vote afd. I am sick and tired of all the other partys doing the exact same politics. Politics that destroyed this country to a point where people have barely any hope left.
Also, AfD isn't winning, not this time and not in 2029. If we still have the current issues after that.. then maybe but currently AfD at almost 20% is about where the line is I think, all the others that vote are aware enough of history to not let these opportunistic demagogues
imo: No taxation without represantation right? Migrants who live here, work here, pay taxes and social security they should definetly be able to vote. I would even go a bit further probably but thats an easy point to accept imo. If you work and live here like everyone else and pay taxes then you should be represented. Even without citicenship.
Why should non-citizens not be allowed to vote? I have lived in Germany for 30 years but because of political reasons I cannot get the German citizenship. Why should I not be able to vote but some 20 year old without any kind of understanding of politics should? The right to vote should be determined by more reasonable factors than what passport you have.

I think with "non-german" citizens they mean people who are here for work or as refugees who still havn´t a german citizenship. They mean resident not citizen. Maybe google translator fucked it up... As soon as you have your german passport you can vote here.

In many countries, non-citizens who have been legal residents for years can vote in local elections.
Not in Gemany. However, you can vote for local immigration board members (if you are not yet naturalized).
In which countries? In Switzerland there is only one state out of 26 where this is possibly and the others voted against it.
@@MrsStrawhatberry In the UK you can vote in local elections as a non-British resident.

Btw. nobody is apologizing for what happened 80/90 years ago. But we will not forget and we will take responsibility that it will not happen again.
Then your friends are weird. You should be happy he sides with the only party in the country that prevents us from becoming an islamic third world nation.
The thing is, we shouldn't apologize for what our ancestors did. It's more important that we don't forget and never allow something like that to happen again. You need to understand that politics in most countries works differently than in the US. The AfD doesn't have a chance. Even if they would become the strongest party, they wouldn't have a majority in the parliament and no coalition partner so they can't be part of the government or appoint a Chancellor.
I'd fully expect CDU to kiss up to them if that is the case though. It would be more likely to happen than them working with the left.

the reason why those poll numbers scare people is that there is a small chance that the CDU/CSU and the AfD could form an alliance and thus have a permanent majority for the votes in the parliament.

Yeah, we in Germany remember the fallen ones instead of celebrating. In war no one wins except those who profit from it
In Sweden it's totally forbidden to keep strollers in stairways or other bulky stuff because of fire hazard problems.

Every murderer is "mentally ill". So what's the point here?
Thank You for saying that I was so mad for sec
The best thing about that fence is the name:
Doppelstabmattenzaun.
Now try to say that word 3 times, quickly! 😂
Even a German may struggle with this!
Well, in some cases, strollers being parked in stairways can pose a hazard in case of a needed evacuation. Imagine there is a fire and firemen try to make their up in thick smoke to rescue people and they trip over carriages. This is not the case here, apparently, especially since they have the building manager‘s approval, but, in general, these kind of obstructions can be dangerous depending on where they are…
In my opinion if you live here and work here and pay your taxes you should be able to vote. You‘re part of it just like everyone else.
While I agree, I think it should be the other way around.
If you live here, work here and pay taxes here, then it should be way way easier and faster to get citizenship, which would then allow you to vote.
no
@@tobiasbayer4866 Either way would be fine with me.
We have one of those. We planted some climbing plants that serve as privacy protection and I really like it that way.
"We have to stand up against everything right-wing".
mittlerweile bin ich mir da nichtmehr sicher das die CDU nicht mit der AFD Koalieren würde -.-
Neiter black red nor black green have a majority according to the polls though.
Fritze disagrees.
Well considering the last muttering of merz, it is still possible to get a coalition of cdu and afd.
@@vuhdoo7486that would be fraud to the CDU voters. He said there won‘t be a coalition with the AFD and CDU voters have trust on that.
Members of the Polish government already denied the existence of extermination camps in Poland.

Thing about living in the EU is:
We have freedom of movement.
There are many familys in Germany, etc. who have been there for more than 60 years with another european nationality. The only difference is they can not vote in the country they live in, but the country their family comes from.
This has nothing to do with the EU. That’s all around the globe the case. Canadiens also live in the US and cannot vote.
They can apply for citizenship if they want to vote. Especially now that dual citizenship is possible for everyone, I don't see the problem.

That sometimes causes the problem that if you have a stroller you need to park it somewhere before you are able to move forward
But the problem is you cant really park it somewhere, so you put it wherever is space, which sometimes might be in the way
This causes places to ban the parking of strollers, or tge instalation of special parking zones
I think the situation in this video is that there is one of those places which attracts people with strollers, and they have designated that small area as a parking space
But one of the persons living there consideres them "in the way" because they take up some space, even though they are in a unused corner of the stairwell, this thinking they are wronged
Here's my reaction, as a german, to what happened in USA in the past week: WHAT THE FUCK?!

Born and living all my life in Germany, if (but it will NOT) the AFD will win the election, I would be ashamed and possibly leave the country.
And you are proving them right.

edit: I just saw it was allowed to be there, so the person doing the damage had no right to do it.
Just wanted to keep the original comment either way if someone might find that topic interesting.
Original post:
I don't agree with the violentact of destroying/damaging a stroller, but I want to explain the issue here:
I guess they are in the pathway/corridor conecting several apartments, or in the stairway.
Some Germans live very strict to the rules... some overdo that really hard.
and to keep the escape route free from obstacles, same here in Vienna
Generally true enough. But the poster explicitly mentioned that they have the permission of the landlord.
@@enoiladoe there are some neighbors who don't care about private agreements. Rules are rules and need to follow!

Dude you know more about whats going on in my country than I do

Aschaffenburg was very very sad !!!! 😢😢😢
Magdeburg , Solingen, Berlin and and and 😢😢😢
You need to get a new perspective.

Why should people not having the citizenship of the country be able to vote. Good question, this is a topic in Luxembourg as well, I know we are a tiny country, but we a) have a lot of residents not having the Luxembourgish nationality and b) thousands of cross-borderers from France, Belgium and Germany coming to work every day (to give you a number, about 230.000). the usual procedure after a Federal Election in Germany:
after the results are definite, one of the parties will have the most votes.
(this is not taking any political stances but rather trying to predict what's gonna happen, so spare me the commentaries)
lets see this prediction after tomorrow when Merz will push his two proposals with FDP and AfD.
