  • French possessive adjectives, such as :
    - Mon Ma Mes
    - Ton Ta Tes
    - Son Sa Ses
    - Notre Notre Nos
    - Votre Votre Vos
    - Leur Leur Leurs
    are a big part of French grammar. They are more complicated than the simple "My, Your, His, Her, Its, Our, Your, Their" in English because of the rules they follow.
    In English, possessive adjectives agree to the person, and it's only a bit more complicated when we talk about "His, Her, Its". In French, possessive adjectives agree to the gender of the noun that they follow. But it also depends on the first letter of the following noun. Even if a noun is feminine but it starts with a vowel or an H, we will use MON TON SON.
    On top of that, you need to remember that we have a formal and informal speech in French, aka TU and VOUS. This means that if you address your teacher, you will need to use "Votre, Votre, Vos" and not "Ton, Ta, Tes".
    Watch the lesson until the end to see each French possessive adjective in a sentence.

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  3 роки тому

      Sorry Naveen I didn't get a notification for your reply. So here in Canada, if you want a job related to French, you will have to live in the province of Quebec, there you can find any jobs with French.
      In other provinces, English is the first language and unless you are a European French speaker and a teacher, you will have a lot of trouble to find a French speaking job only.
      There are French speaking communities all over Canada but not for jobs.

    I just saw a title of a video on UA-cam that said “Fabriquer son fromage maison” and wondered why the third person possessive adjective was used instead of the second person “ton”. Is it because the video is referring to “on” or to mean “making one’s own homemade cheese” and for “on” the rule is to use third person possessive adjectives?
    Thank you for all your videos and help.

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  7 місяців тому

      Sandra that's a common struggle among French learners ;) But you are looking at it the wrong way. In French, a noun has a gender and nothing around it changes it. So for voisin, if it's a man, mon voisin, if it's a woman, ma voisine. It never changes :)
