I've been using the Amana rc-2267 for about 3 years. Little to no tear out on end grain, and a great overall surfacing bit. Great job on the cutting boards
defiantly a game changer, the first time i surfaced a end grain board with a surfacing bit i was pretty let down lol

Would love to see your vcarve settings on that 6.2 degree bit.
As for my offsets they are irrelevant to your machine and bit. I have different offsets with the same bit on 2 different machines. For speed it’s machine dependent, I run full pass so .3 single pass so I go pretty slow around 30, I would slow it until you no longer get skipping/chatter.

Ever since I have gotten my CNC I have been wanting to do inlays! I have been nervous to try because I’m just not sure what wood to use for test cuts that aren’t gunna cost crazy amounts. Maple and walnut are def my goto’s! I might reach out and ask some questions if you have some time ! Loved the project thanks so much !
For sure play around with some hardwood scraps or cheaper hardwood. End grain inlays are more forgiving that face grain just way more work.

An inlay of a dog with funny labels for their parts like happiness meter for the tail floor cleaner for the mouth etc would be cool.

I really need to make some end grain boards. It's been about a year and I'm feeling the itch. I need to water pop more often. I'm so bad about it on boards.

😆 don’t make me twist your arm! I do still use easel for simple stuff, I have all my projects and stuff saved in there, it’s just easy. Anything past v bits and cutting out shapes and such I use vectric.

Man these looks great! I don't know if you mentioned it but what is the actual thickness of the lines? I guess maple, walnut are the best for these type of inlays? Keep up the good work!
pretty much any hardwood works fine. Maple and walnut just contrast well and are easy for me to get. A lot of people dont recomend oak and some hardwoods can be toxic but pretty much most domestic hardwoods are fine.
Amana Tool RC-2255-TG is a better bit for surfacing. It will reduce tearout.
Hey there. Amazing work. I’m just getting into this and am seeing huge carving times (a coaster says it will take 13+ hours ). I have the 1/32 but you seem to use and was wondering if you use a clearing tool. Also what kind of carve times do you see on the vcarves? Just trying to get a sense of whether I’m way off. Thanks.
Hey! Definitely use a clearing tool. Each one of these boards was less than 2 hours
What do you use to tint you CA glue? Its a great idea to know exactly where you've laid it down. Appreciate it!
I used black epoxy dye. Not the powdery stuff. Just add one or two drops and give it a good shake. Doesn’t work the best with other colors. Gel and think also don’t mix the best.
@@TwoMooseDesign AWESOME Thank you, yes I have the Epoxy dye from Rockler in black so I'll give that a shot. Have you tried Alcohol Inks? I use those in my Epoxy pours a lot of the time. Esp in shorelines with waves.
Why did you use tape & CA glue on the inlay cut instead of fence and pvc rails that you used on the cutting boards? I haven’t had any issues using parallels but I’m glad you mentioned that it doesn’t auto save. I haven’t tried inlays yet but would love to. Great video!
Because the center likes to pick up because you’re removing so much material.
What press do you use for glueing ?
Hi Jeff -- curious why you are using a 6mm shaft instead of 1/4"(46280) - other than the 6mm version has ~50% smaller tip? Does the standard ER20 (or are you using ER16?) collet handle both? Thanks -- keep up the great work.
Because it’s the smallest tip I can get and just happens to come in mm 🤷🏼♂️ i tried it with the makita and 1/4” shank and the bit slipped. Haven’t tried with my spindles

Which board is your favorite?
Overall, the Elk board is my favorite. I agree, if you get a starker contrast on the antlers on future inlays, they will pop right off the board. But the handles on the cow are nice - makes it look like a massive book.
Could you share what you use to do your pressing of the inlay? I was looking at a harbor freight Press or building something with a screw type press.
The harbor freight one is trash. I got one from a different hardware store and had to modify it quite a bit
It would probably be fine for a bit but I’ve heard the jacks go out real fast and there’s so much slop it doesn’t press all that even

@@brstoufer thanks I appreciate it, I’m not sure about those as I haven’t tried one but I’d definitely avoid a bottom of the barrel hydraulic press.
Grab a used thinkpad laptop a t480 or t490 is like 200 bucks and has windows installed, they are super easy to work on and parts are dirt cheap👌

Nice! In windows update settings, make sure to set your active hours when you'll be using the machine so it doesn't want to reboot when you're working.

How do you create the inverse of the crv file to make the inlays?
I just reverse the file
To make those kind of designs, what software do you use?
I draw in a graphic design program Adobe illustrator. Some people do it in their 𝙲𝙽𝙲 software

Hey Jeff I know it’s a lot of dialing in but could you tell me your ballpark speeds and feeds for the bit? I can tell your going much slower then I have been and I’m not getting good results. So that’s probably the issue. Any help is huge!
Odds are you’re going way to fast, I sure was when I started lol I think I run at 25ipm and 12-13k rpm’s?? I have it all in my presets I don’t even know anymore. I’m also carving end grain, makes a huge difference on bit capabilities.
If I buy the files you have with the vetric carve files. It should be all in there right? Least I can try and study it on these projects you have here.
@@LavinWoodworks yep, the crv file opens up how if I opened it on my computer. Definitely look over all the bits and everything before exporting g code. I can’t guarantee the offsets as they vary from each machine and bit but should get you close.

On the walnut boards, I would recommend their Titebond II Dark wood glue, less working time but the darker glue lines really blend in on walnut.
I have a Onefinity CNC but I've not tried an inlay yet, and would be terrified to try it on an end grain cutting board. By the time I have an end grain cutting board glued up, I can't imagine throwing it on the CNC bed to screw up.ua-cam.com/channels/oHIa8vLSGMnzaYhI-P3Z_Q.html
Definitely scary! A lot of time goes into just making the board lol I've only had to trash a few from mistakes.
Epoxy board for the fails
regular 1F has that function, MDI return to coordinates. Does not need to be Elite.
It’s not nearly as accurate I’ve tried, I have both machines
I would disagree. 4-5 species inlays that all line up perfect. Accuracy would be necessary from the reference fence. But since we’re using a similar fence style, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Might be easier in the Elite, but still very doable.
But anywho, like your channel.
