- Yeah yeah, another video on the cheap Ozark Trail folders.
But man, Walmart got this right, and white plastic scales open a world of possibilities for those inclined.

I like knives but I'm more of a full time multitool guy the past four years. I'm a huge Leatherman fan. I really like these knives you can't beat it for $5 dollars. I bought both the white and orange handled knife for $10 dollars, and I'm impressed. I like the comfort, blade profile, easy deployment and closing of the blade. Its nice to see these knives at a very affordable price. You can keep one in your jean pant the other in your vehicle, shed, tool or tackle box etc. I had to sharpen the white handled knife with my Lansky Blade Medic, it was very dull but it sharpens up nicely. Great video, I like the blue dye. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the review! I've seen a few YT videos mentioning this new knife, so I may have to check out my local Wally World and see whether they have them in stock or not.
When you were comparing the OT and the Bugout, stop the video at 8:00 or so, with the knives shown side-by-side. On the lower, outer screw, notice that the inset texturing pattern on both knives deliberately indents to avoid the screw on both knives. Now THAT'S copying without really "copying" at a world class level!
Also, you mentioned that since it's an unknown blade steel on a $5 knife, you'll probably have to sharpen the knife fairly often. That's not really a bad thing, especially for a novice; learning to sharpen the blade on a $5 knife is a lot less nerve-wracking than trying to learn on a $120 knife, or around $200 for some Bugouts as a price I've heard mentioned! If you screw up and ruin the blade, so what? Go spend another $5 and learn from your mistake! It's not a major problem, like it would be on a much more expensive knife.
Before the orange knife sold out their website said they were selling 1,000+ a day.
The white handle feels like a cheap copy of the orange handle. But still not a bad knife for $5. I dyed my white scales black last night. Knife came out really nice.
I was lucky enough to score a handful of these and im loving them,i have one that the scales glow in the dark.
How’s you make it glow in the dark?
Stormtrooper knife just needs an empire decal
Could be beefier with D2 steel like the earlier orange one but definitely worth $5.
I just got the ashgrey stormtrooper today
I got one a few days ago...crazy how inexpensive this is. I don't see how Walmart is making money on these...
Volume
i got one yesterday. i was surprised by the action on it. i took it to dad and asked him how much he thought it was worth. he said around 40 bucks. i said nope it was 5 bucks
I have a video on this knife and more. This was a good video. OZT is doing their thing
Mora can still compete thankfully.
I got a couple of these 10 days ago and went back today to get a couple more and the white ones are sold out !!
I bought 3 on wednesday they had a large supply, today friday i walked in and bought the last 2
None of the 5 local Walmart stores have this in stock. Out of stock online as well. I guess Walmart needs to focus on providing more stock on these types of knives and putting them in more stores. These same stores used to have tons of Ozark Trail knives in years past but not recently.
Check online first thing in the morning, seems like they add stock every morning and the white is available online right now. In the morning the orange one should be available too, just keep checking until they're available because I've ordered several lol.
@@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 Thanks for the advice. I will keep trying.
Seems American companies are charging waaaay too much. If Walmart can get it done for that price, why can't others at least come close? Because they don't want to, then lie saying its material costs...horse hockey.
😳😅😂
Except the American's designed everything, bought patents, collaborate with knife designers, and pay at least 20x in labor/overhead. This knife is obviously a knockoff and wouldn't exist if they couldn't "borrow" every design feature.
@Brian-rj5rl a knockoff of what? It's not identical to anything I've seen. With that logic, hasn't every person copied a knife other than the very first person in history to make it? There is a reason most knife designs can't be patented, but im sure you knew that 🤣. You can make all the excuses you want, but greed is the cause....
@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 it's obviously changes by about 10% to avoid being an exact copy. This couldn't be the first time you've seen china reverse engineer and put something out that is an obvious knock off. Even in the video he said the scales look like they would practically screw on to the bugout...guess that's just a coincidence
@@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548did you even watch the video? He says it’s the same as the bugout.
I bought 2 of these and today at my local Walmart, they are sold out.
That bugout isnt worth 120$ just cus its made inthe u.s. Now ... 25-30 i would pick one up. Got the d2 orange ozark and its a champ for months now.Glad i bought 4 orange d2s when i had the chance
Also thanks for the idea of dying the scales on this $5 knife… do you take it apart to dye it or dunk the whole knife ?
@@kymindalehman4300 I took it apart and cleaned the scales with rubbing alcohol first. You could just dunk the whole knife though. Just lube it up afterwards
Where we live, these knives are online but not in the stores! 🤔
I kept asking and one day, our store got in about four boxes of the orange ones. When they get them, they keep them
Behind the knife counter to keep people from buying 10 or 20 at once.
@CowboySurvival I went to a Walmart about 40 minutes from me and I have not seen so many of the orange handle ones b4. They had a ton behind a glass case. My 2 local Walmarts have none.
You're the first to compare these two. Others compare the orange one and say they are different cause of the liners.
Did you have to disassemble it to dip the handles?
@@JWeiss-qr3pl I did, but you don't necessarily have to
is this too cheap or are the others too expensive?
Some of both...the OG orange knife was a pretty good knife with metal liners and D2 steel and is now hard to find
Pretty much, the others are WAY too expensive 🤔
With SO many Chinese Amazon knife companies doing stuff like D2 or 14c for $15-25, a company with the volume of Walmart can do that stuff for $10 allll dayyyy. This is the golden age of pocket knives
Its not a great or even good knife objectively. Its only good for the price.
20 years ago, a 5 dollar knife new would have been sturdier but maybe uglier. Its also too small for a crossbar lock. But its good to be able to hand to someone and not care if it breaks.
@metamorphicorder you're wrong on all accounts my friend. Is linerless for a purpose, that was lightweight great EDC. Its more broad than the Bugout even, the best on everything you mentioned you think the bug out is an absolutely terrible knife. The only downfall on this OT is the blade seal
He works for Walmart
Sometimes Walmart has special Buck knife editions for Christmas
I looked at the buck gift sets at Walmart and the fit and finish was not the best. Some where scuffed up.
Why didn’t you post a link? I don’t see it on their site.
@@deanhopkins4117 in person only
Their heat treat is all over the place
It’s fine for a $5 knife
Is this the same as the orange one that they had a couple months ago??
@@AdventureGuy369 different model
my walmart doesn’t have these $5 ones. they have the holiday gift sets shown in other videos, but not the individual knives. I wonder if they are holding them back for Black Friday…
In my experience if they do not have them out now, they will not have them in the stores. I was able to get most of the ones I wanted online this year, but the Walmart's near us just do not have them. Last year I had a hard time finding them in either place. It is probably the store managers decision to sell them or not.
Did you remove the handle before dying it?
Yes, I took it apart. But not really necessary.
I have this knife. It goes dull in a matter of hours.
Grail? 🤔
Good video overall but honestly there are probably 300 other videos on this same topic. I think we can go ahead and move on now.
🤣
How about this Hmmmm maybe both manufactured by the same company🔔
That's what I'm thinking
Nowadays I wouldn't be surprised
Grail and we don't know the steel?
4 walmarts near me and none has these forget walmart it used to be kmart sucks well now its walmart sucks
That knife sucks, it flexed and breaks in middle handle and by blade, so if u needed to use it for defense, good luck.
Knice cusomizatio, crap sreel
Should be illegal to own this is part of the problem
Yeah, the dye is toxic if you are not careful, and it causes cancer in the state of California.
I agree, although blister packaging presents nicely, reducing plastic and offering these knives in all cardboard can be much more friendly to compost and keep from the issues that plastic brings to land fills.
Yes, make all pocket knives illegal! Great idea!
@@CoyoteEDC😂
@@CoyoteEDC So if you live in another state, you are OK!!! 🤣😁
Not on the bandwagon, that knife will always be garbage,I've had several but I don't care for them, they feel cheap cause they are cheap,id rather spend a little more and have quality, that being said I get what there doing,I guess good knife if your a broke joe.
Spending $120+ on a brand name that is made just as cheaply with better steel isn’t impressive. “A fool and his money” sort of thing.
Clearly you’ve yet to use one 😂 myself and many others are questioning buying the bugout. Just like when I questioned my yeti cooler after Rtic came out. Being broke is irrelevant when the price is a fraction and you’re getting the same if not better performance for price point.
@mrRoverkane I have actually and it was stiff, the thing felt clanky, and cheap.Never liked the bugout either, not a fan of either of them tbh.The bugout blade was sharp and cut through good however the steel in this blade sucks and dull after cutting up one box, doesn't hold and edge .
@@WickedKnivesandThings well that’s my point. You mentioned you didn’t like the bugout either… that’s way more than this and both feel subpar to you. So when buying one, you’re better off getting the $10 one, ya know?
@mrRoverkane I suppose
