On behalf of all your viewers who, like myself, are stuck on the bank 95% of the time, thank you! I'm on the bank right now with two catfish pro combos active, dropper loop rigs with 3oz bank sinkers and chicken on both
So you'd like to see more bank videos???
@@DieterMelhorn I would. I enjoy your videos where ever but being a bank fisherman (aka turtle feeder) I would appreciate some pointers or tips in that area.
I put off buying into the portable power stations for a long time. My wife decided to order 2 Jackery 240's on prime day last year, they were about $150 each. I found I use them all the time! Fishing, hunting, camping, even while road tripping to have more power outlets for charging phones in the car. She just ordered another bigger one a couple days ago on prime day. Definitely worth the money.
When I just have a couple of hours to fish on a work day, I put my gear in a milk crate that I have attached to a Milwaukee folding hand cart with bungee cords. If I plan on being out longer, I haul my stuff in a collapsible wagon/garden cart that I've mounted PVC rod holders to, attached with hose clamps at all 4 corners. Very useful.
I put a minnow bucket in bottom of 5 gallon bucket and an organizer that sits in top of five gallon bucket. Rod holders on side. Great info and vid!
I have my gear selection narrowed down to where everything fits into a backpack so all I have to carry is my rod's and bait bucket
Great video. As a bank fisherman I appreciate the tips. Thank you.
Bug repellent. The electric ones that emit a vapor are great. Here in WI at night the skeeters can carry you off!
Where I fish here In Madison I have no skeeters ever only those annoying gnats. On the river I just fish away from the woods and no skeeters either. One step in the woods and they swarm me.
Thanks Dieter for the helpful tips for those of us who mostly do our fishing from the banks these days. Like you, I carry a tackle bag and have number of small tackle boxes within the bag with all my terminal tackle that I need inside. In addition to items that you mentioned during your video I've also found it useful to carry small towel to wipe off my hands or dry things off & I also carry a small first aid kit, usually with assortment of band-aids, antibioctic ointment, etc, which you never know when your going to need it. Thanks for sharing your video.
I probably could have done "37 Things You Need for Bank Fishing!!"
Great information Dieter , people starting out to fish can greatly use this...😊
I take the milk crate from my kayak and use a bungie cord to tie it to a dolly cart with big wheels. The PVC pipes on the crate carry my rods and net, i can fit a lot of tackle and supplies inside the crate, and i can still carry a bucket and or chair quite easily. If you opt to carry a small tacklebox over your shoulder, a well built crate will even fit a 5 gallon bucket inside and still carry all your rods. That puts the weight of any fish you take home on the dolly instead of on your shoulders.
Great list of items. I have them all but the last on but, I have several power packs that I bring with me. I just have to remember to charge them before hand. Great video Dieter.
Always good quality videos
You could use a Ryobi light, which also has a USB port on it and you can charge your cell phone from that or run your bubbler if you get the right one. This way you’re caring only a couple Ryobi batteries and the light itself which weighs next to nothing.
I added some stuff onto my mountain bike to carry everything for me and the backpack i have is my tackle box and cooler works really good
Walmart sells a universal 5 gallon bucket lid by Frabil with an aerator. It also has some loops built into the sides to keep some things handy like a bait net, pliers etc. Seems worth the $14 for me.
It's definitely worth the price, ran mine for 3 days in the back of my truck on a 5gal bucket with out it dieing
I remember when I didn't have a boat I used to have pretty much everything you say all in a cart it was fun but I love the boat don't have to take all my stuff out
The bubbler a great point I found one on the side of the road and I fished a week and 2 d ds lasted alll week used it for the fish and bait
and a soft sided wagon to carry it all!
Bank fishing 99.9% of the time still saving for a boat are a kayak. Would love to see some more bank fishing videos from you.
Night trips lite. 3-4 tiki torches I put on the ground around me burning mosquito repellent fuel. Works great, except? Windy nights. Used cooking fryer oil with about 15% charcoal lighter fluid will work too,but will eventually clog the wick with fats. Wicks are cheap.
Up to now ive used 3700 plano type boxes in a ruck sack, now im thinking about those rig rap bags and voxes, everything stored indidually, can't kick it all out ob the ground by accident, lol, uad a few of those nightmares, thanks for the video, awesome stuff💯🎣
Dieter you rock much love from Oolagah Lake
Rechargeable aerators are the best type that's the new thing these days
and lanterns, spotlights, headlamps, etc. I run an 80yo coleman gas lantern for nostalgic reasons, but everything else is USB rechargeable, including the bubbler.
Only thing you need for bank fishing. A pole, line, hook. Now you can go fishing. But honestly get a tackle bag,a pole holder, good multipurpose pliers,a small net,an extra pair of socks.
Try a Tidycat cat litter bucket. They're square & you can cut a notch on the rim for your pole to rest in (I know you said done rest your poles on your bucket, lol).
I like to use a piece of Paracord to tie a safety line on my pole. Just in case in distastes when they bite.
I use my bike to ride to where I'm fishing.
I lean the bike down and actually have ropes and catabiners (clips) to keep my rods on shore
I just unclip the rod when I have a fish on.
Everything else I have in a large backpack and carry it all down three flights of stairs to start with.
The top container in the pack is where I carry bait and pop in a small cooler with ice packs. I usually fish all night and this stuff works well.
I can strap a chair to this whole thing really easily if I want
My deer hunting backpack I have straps to hook a bucket to it and I can flip the bucket upside down and put my stuff in in to keep my jacket dry and not sweat on the way to where I go hunting. It takes me at least a half hour of walking uphill. Good thing is that it is downhill after I get a deer.
You got a set up kind of like mine let the bike carry everything other then backpack that's a tackle box and cooler 👍
@@Beech303 I have a bike trailer downstairs in my storage area but I don't use it for fishing anymore. I used to have a monster tacklebox and carried a net but just too much trouble putting it all together and worrying about people ripping stuff off in the two trips I take outside. I don't have a giant tacklebox anymore because I just fish for carp and catfish. If I fish for anything else I just put a small tacklebox on my pack.
@@madtownangler Yeah i have to bike over a mile from my truck works pretty good
I took a bit of material about 1.5" wide by roughly 24" long and put some reasonably heavy snaps on it to carry my rods. It just wraps and snaps on both sides of the reels to make an effective carrying handle. I typically carry 4 rods. 3 and a spare. Just in case. Pretty cheap way to ease that load. Been working great the last few years. Thanks for your Tips Dieter! There's mine!
And not catching 💩 bc you’re on UA-cam
I try to make one trip to my spot, cooler, chair, tackle and a couple rods, walking river rocks along the way. Cheers!
Hey another idea for #8... I have my bubbler set up to run solar OR by a phone charging battery bank. It's a USB bubbler and I've ran it for a day and a half just on a battery pack. Solar runs it all day and another recharges my battery pack. Small setup, compact, and will let you run a bubbler 24/7 with no batteries or electricity. Camping for a week on the river bank and I always keep bait alive n ready!
I bank fish a lot pro tip buy a backpack tackle box it’s a game changer it’s made my life 1million times easier
I carry two 5 gallon buckets. 1 has the bait with two bubblers other one has rod holders, hooks, sinkers, swivels, spool of big game I use for leaders, and bobbers for Santee Cooper rigs and rattles, I put my reels in the bucket also makes carrying rods easier, that bucket works as my chair also, and stick my frozen drinks in the bucket also. My son has a stool seat with a strap he takes with a pouch he sticks snacks and what not in
How many bank fisherman use throwable sonars similar to Deeper Chirp +2? Scan the bottom to fish near structure and help prevent snags?
Cannot go wrong with the Multi Bars ....
A pair of snips are useful too.
Yes they are
Watch 1 video on carp fishing over in europe. They will have all the tricks for this.
Well deiter you left out a lantern also as a catfisherman you know that cats feel vibration in the water a generator running makes the cats leave great tips but there are loop holes in this and bad ones you run a motor or anything that gives off an electric pulse it's over before it begins small cats are dumb big cats ain't. Make sure your reels have clickers after dark can mean caught fish and fish you didn't even know bit. White tipped or high vise rods after dark ever try to see a black rod in the dark not happening. Great video tho just throw in the right stuff for beginners also bait is a good thing to tell about dead or live it all works in the dark. Chicken livers and stink bait maybe but not very often bigger fish hunt at night not little ones cause they are food also. Plus dont forget that big baits equal big catssometimes the biggest bait in your bucket catches the smallestfish and the smallest bait catches the biggest fish put outan assortment of big and small baits as for tackle bring lots of ityou may loose a lot to snags from the bank
I’ve never used a generator….that sound would get annoying…..LOL!! 😜
he means Riverbank people I found they look at you really strange when you walk into a Bank with all of your fishing gear
Can you post what model you are using for the portable power supply?
Everything I carry to bank fish fits into my 5 gallon bucket. Both hands are full, but if the walk isn't too far, I'm fine. A chair is a must!
I use a "tackle bucket". A 5 gallon bucket with a bucket boss or similar tool apron. So if I were making my "top 10" I take a cast net and a landing net, and leave the chair and power supply behind. C'mon Deiter, a bucket and a bubbler but no way to catch bait?
If fishing from shore was this complicated, I would never go.
Well, if you're going to be out there for a while, want to target several species, and have to venture more than a few hundred yards from your vehicle, you're going to want/need a whole lot more than if you're just dipping a line in the water for a few minutes.
@@chuckschillingvideos I go all the time and fior years without all that. Tackle. Bait. Something to eat. Something to drink. I'm good for eight to ten hours.
@@peterolbrisch8970 Well, Mr. Wonderful, your fishing pursuits may not resemble those of the rest of us. Some of us need more gear because we're pursuing different fish. Some of us would like to sit comfortably while we sit. Some of us don't enjoy practicing minimalism for its own sake.
@@chuckschillingvideos I prefer to be unencumbered, mobility is key for where I go, and most places are treacherous to some degree. Like having to navigate a 12 foot drop to shore. This isn't lazy seaside fishing. It's not for the faint hearted.
I went 10/10. How did you all do on this pop quiz?
11. a bank to fish on. 12. fish
I tried bank fishing. I did not catch anything because the vault doors were closed.
I have a question can you use a drifting weight for bank fishing
Yes you can 100%
Would you know where you can buy ells
Usually bait shops near the coast have them....
cant go fishing without at least 2 beers its actually illegal 🎣😾🍺i think
That guy had more than two rods set up which is illegal where I live.
Glad I don’t live there!!!
@@DieterMelhorn Having that many rods can make things extremely complicated once you hook a fish, all those setups as shown are too closely placed. I keep it to one live bait and one lure most of the time. Lot of pike by me so you need the side snips in case of a deeply hooked fish. . Anyway, this was a good video in general, Most of the places I shore fish are treacherous just to get to, so you have to keep it really simple. And this video did get me thinking about fishing at night and made me think of some adjustments and improvements I can make. Thanks!
Really love that neon sign and that booty it's a sign most fishing gear is meant to catch fishermen not fish
Deter I thought you where a real fisherman. What real fisherman keeps their phone charged while out fishing? Hell what real fisherman takes their phone with them? That’s just more opportunity For the better half to keep asking when you’ll be home 😂. That being said I’d be lost without my Melhorn fishing videos while waiting for a bite 😂😂🤣😂😂
