- There have been numerous times I wanted to reference this clip from Father of the Bride but it seems to be nowhere to be found. Here is it after all these years!
This is one of my favorite scenes in all of movie history.
Kimberly Williams said in an interview they did 50 takes of this scene before the director was happy with her crying.
Yep! As I'd said in my reply to daughterofolaf: "Have you read the story behind the making of this scene? Kimberly Williams wasn't a big star and was worried about the director's reaction after dozens of failed takes. She just couldn't get herself to cry. Finally she pictured herself failing at ever getting the scene right and the shame she'd feel. That was enough to get the tears flowing for the final take."
Great interview!
@@rogerhaun9340Yup.
Steve Martin’s facial reactions are epic.
I got a blender from my boyfriend as a present. I was so excited !!
I think that everyone who watched this movie and got a blender as a gift thinks about that scene !
I wouldn't flip out and cry like her at all(she's crazy) but an appliance isn't exactly the best gift IMO. A present is supposed to be just for that person, and something they WANT, not need.
I never heard of an engagement breaking up over a blender! I'm glad they apologized and got married after all. And you know the day came when they were cooking and she had to use the blender.!!!
I wouldn't flip out and cry like her at all(she's crazy) but to be honest a kitchen appliance isn't exactly the best gift IMO. A present is supposed to be just for that person, and something they WANT, not need.
They had to shoot this scene more than one time because her acting wasn't convincing enough. Then she really burst into tears and that's what you see here
Yep. And she was so convincing on the final take exactly because she was getting so worked up about never getting it right thus far.
His reaction are comedy gold😂
Father of the Bride is the best comedy of the 90s and is one remake that tops the original. Wonderful
2:18 🤣🤣🤣🤣 This has to be one of my favorite parts in the whole movie.

@@rogerhaun9340 I did not know that. Thanks for sharing! :)
I would have loved to go to this wadding. 💅🏻💁🏻♂️
Lol probally wont marry brian
I was reading a book and something about what I was reading reminded me of this scene.
He should’ve gotten her a Vitamix.
this is one of those stupid fights you have to have before you get married the stess is real and youll find yourself fighting over the dumbest shit.
I understand the part about going through someones things, no one believing the story, and loosing their trust can be one good reason for calling off a wedding, but I never understood the whole blender thing. If it was a leg lamp from a Christmas story, or something X-rated that would be something to over react about, but a simple blender, I just don't get it.
I think it's a "getting cold feet" scene in part, but the main idea was that she saw a blender as a sign that he would expect a 1950s stay-at-home housewife instead of a more modern egalitarian marriage. So she got scared. And, like most of this comedy, it's performed a little over-the-top.
@@rogerhaun9340 I guess that makes sense.
I think us as an audience “not getting it” was the point. The entire scene is to illustrate that she is overreacting to something that is nothing. The entire build-up is for us and George to think she’s going to pull some super horrid thing out of the box and it’s just a blender. This whole situation serves to give George perspective on his own over the top emotions and behavior. Maybe I’m thinking too much about it but I do believe that all of this was behind the scene.
It means she’s batshit and he should be grateful she called it off
@@rogerhaun9340yeah I get it but (granted I didn’t exist when this remake came out). But I’m pretty sure not too many young people thought of receiving a blender like that at the time.
30th anniversary of Father Of The Bride coming up
Hey Everyone !!! I love this movie.
The hell’s her problem? I’d love to get a blender!
The point made in the next scene is that Annie overreacted. Bryan gave her a useful appliance, and she misinterpreted it as a misogynist statement.
To give the little wife a blender lol
Her name is not Annie her name is Kimberly Williams Paisley
Yes, and it's hard to believe young Kimberly is now 50 years old! Having seen her in some other things (like The 10th Kingdom mini-series), we know the actress is Kimberly Williams-Paisley. But for many of us, she'll forever be Annie from FOTB!
@@rogerhaun9340 50 y/o holy crap! She will always be a sweetheart!
I love Kimberly Williams when she’s younger
She's also great in Hallmark movies.
How in the world did Brian even know about what George did?!?
Never even got the blender just the youtube channel
But the indignity in this day and age of receiving a Blender is like receiving a set of cook books back in the 60's!!! Can only mean one thing and everyone knows what that is.
“The indignity...” good lord. 🙄 Talk about overreacting.
I never want to get married is that weird or normal ?
Well, what is “normal”? It is definitely not typical but there’s nothing wrong with it. I don’t want to get married. Not getting married is becoming more socially acceptable so that’s good.
It's your life. Nobody has to get married nowadays. Anything can be "normal"
Maybe she was expecting something different
Over react lol
Lol the man lies
I hate this scene w Annie. Shes 22, engages this guy she barely knows, and expects her dad to pay for the wedding. Then she has the audacity to complain that Brian will try to make her a housewife. UH HELLO?! Look at yourself!
What hells wrong with a blender? It's a kitchen appliance it's still useful to this day you could make homemade picante sauce, fruit drinks, margaritas, shakes.Whats wrong with that? 🤷 Atleast he didn't cheat on her.
There is nothing wrong with a blender. That is the point of the scene. 🤣
The point is that she's overreacting. She misinterpreted the gift as a misogynist statement.
This scene made me not like the daughter character.
Sorry, I loved her from start to finish. I see what you mean if this scene is viewed alone. I think the scene is supposed to represent her last-minute jitters and doubts before the wedding. Have you seen the full movie?
Lol youd hate mine
Aside from this ONE scene, she is a very level-headed, nice person. This scene has several points to it, it isn’t meant to make her seem like a bad person or anything and it is clear that she is not. If anything her character is so delightful that it might make one want to roll their eyes at the movie in general. Not MY eyes, of course. Lol. :)
The wedding is off i didnt get the grandstand dove n swans lol
Thats why im never getting mairred
Well, givin ur soon to be wife a kitchen equipment is kinda offending. Remind me of women on ancient history who always cook at home only
First world problems🙄
