  • It was a tough couple of days in the shop painting the underside of the hood for the 1950 Chevy Truck but I persevered. We ran into several problems but taking our time and thinking them through helped get it done.
If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com

Wow! That color is so amazing!! It has to be so rewarding to finally get to that stage.

Thanks. Certainly glad to get past the underside. It turned out to be way more work and trouble than the top so far.

Yes it does but when you cause some of it yourself it makes it a little harder to take. The top side painting should be a breeze. It is a really nice color blue and I am not even a blue guy.

It’s gorgeous-and that’s the underside. Can’t wait to see the outside. I would like to see how you sand out and polish the runs.

Thanks Jeff. That video will be next and I have one where I showed in detail on the tailgate for this truck where somebody put several runs around the letters. Here is a link to that video ua-cam.com/video/XvjZez8Mkrk/v-deo.html

Thanks for pointing out when something doesn’t go well for you. It helps those of us learning this skill to see the pros fix small defects!
You used the term “control coat”. Could you explain that please?
    Thanks Mark.

Yes, new to me also. Control Coat, please explain. Thanks Mark

A control coat is to make sure the color is uniform. For solid colors it isn't needed but for metallics, pearls, iridescents and unique colors it is very important. I am sure all of you have seen tiger stripes and blochty cars on the road. That comes from being to heavy handed with the color towards the end of application. When I spray the top of the hood I will talk about spraying a control coat for you guys. Great question.

    Hey Mark
Man that hood is gettin the Super Lagera treatment.
Looks like twice as hard and scary painting the inside versus outside.
    Looks insane 👊
You used noncatylized base but I’m assuming that was catylized clear? Thanks

You are absolutely right Jack. The inside of the hood is way more difficult than the outside. Yes the base coat is non catalyzed but the clear takes reducer and catalyst. Polishing in there was a pain too...

Looks great, if you don't mind could you email me the color and brand of paint?
