After spending a fortune and going thru a ton of knives and sheaths Iv found that winkler is the best edc knife for me. the sheath you get with it for the price is amazing compared to the competition. Seems like alot of companies can make a decent knife and completely forget about the sheath and when it comes to fixed blades if the sheath is garbage it wont get carried
I completely agree. Winkler makes a damn good knife and a sheath to match! Only downside for me is I wish Winkler would offer more steel choices other than that they are perfect. Don't get me wrong 80crv2 is excellent but I live and work in wet environments and the carbon steel requires more upkeep is all.
@@Bladeunion5716 I read a magazine article where they were interviewing an Army Special Forces NCO from the Vietnam war era. He said he carried a Randall made of O1 carbon steel for two years in Vietnam. He said he had a small piece of cloth damp with oil that he carried in his pocket in a plastic bag. Twice a day, he would unsheath his Randall and wipe the blade down with the oil cloth. He had NO problems with corrosion or rust on his Randall in two years of carrying it in a leather sheath in the tropical humidity and monsoons of Vietnam. Moral of the story: Keeping a carbon steel blade from developing corrosion or rust is not nearly as hard as many seem to think it is. An oily cloth, a quick wipe a couple of times a day and your knife is good to go. A Winkler has the Caswell finish, so the only places that would need a wipedown would be the sharpened edge and any places where the coating had been scraped or worn off. I'n not sure, but I think this is the finish that Winkler uses: ua-cam.com/video/1DlPwq4zlOw/v-deo.html
@allan4800 back then they didn't have super steels and carbon was the only choice for a hard use blade. Don't get me wrong if you take care of a carbon blade it will serve you well but some of the modern steels can do the same thing without the maintenance. I still love my winklers and I keep a little wicked wax on them they haven't had any issues. I wouldn't use it for a dive knife though!

They are so cool. I like the Winkler knife out them the most. I’d don’t ever wish to be in a position where I’d have to use violence. I would own it to carry more for camping and that sort. I just can’t stand the thought of hurting another person. It’s even hard for me to watch contact sports.
You got awesome collection of fix blades I have Cold Steel SRK 5 6 inch, and min tac Cold Steel I can just slip in back pocket where I have my wallet, Eafengrow 4inch . I really enjoy your reviews and always make it a point of following up on your post thank you again
very reliable top 5 edc blades. i like that you carry medium sized fixed blades and not folders or mini fixed blades. I also carry medium sized fixed blades either my busse, dark angel steel will, or my favorite carothers utility fighter.
Thanks for watching. For the things I do on a daily and my area of operations, the mid size fixed blade is the answer. It's the perfect balance of capability and ease of carry. I want to get a utility fighter and the basic field knife but they have been unobtainable. Someday you will see a review on the channel 👍🏻
I’m jealous of your Carothers blade...tried and tried to get one of their field knives. (My internet is to slow) I don’t use that style of knife much but I love my Hinderer Emmett.
Yes the carothers requires very high speed internet! I have been looking for a basic field knife for a while now as I think that's the best all around user they currently offer. I have not had thr opportunity to check out a hinderer but if it's anything like the xm18 I'm sure it's quality.
You have good taste in knives man and a nice collection! I carry a Spartan blades Ronin Shinto s45vn, I just recently finished my edge on it and it is extremely sharp! It will push cut through a phone book yellow page against the grain of paper! I prefer a fixed blade for edc carey also! Great video man!👍
@@Bladeunion5716 Well thanks man I appreciate it! I found Spartan blades a couple years back and bought the hybris too there work is very impressive no doubt! 👍🔪
Dude, Love seeing EDC'd fixed blades!! Almost roasted you because they look too clean and not used until i watched the whole video. Thanks for sharing!! Personally I carry a hard use edc fixed and a super hard RC slicey folder. Currently my favorites are a Winkler DP crusher and one of my PM2s in 15v or maxamet. Also been struggling to get a CPK to put in my edc rotation.. *sigh
Yes for me a fixed blade for edc is the answer. I'm the type that will clean my blade before it ever goes back in the sheath after using it so they do tend to look pretty good especially with the rotation. Thanks for watching!
What did you re profile your Toor blade to? I noticed mine was about a 28deg, and I re profiled it to a 20deg, and absolutely luv the blade now. Great collection you have there!!
That's a tough one as I like them all for different reasons but if I had to pick one I like the most it's the carothers but just by a little compared to the others.
When you own many knives the wear gets spread out. That said most of the blades I use don't have coated blades and are made of steel that doesn't show wear easily. Thanks for watching.
I cleaned them up for the video. You can see edge damage in the busse if you look close. They get used but I carry so many knives that none of them get a ton of individual use.
Ooooh Winkler,heck yeah

Nice top 5. I’m a fan of both Carothers and winkler myself.
I enjoy the winkler and carothers as well!

A tool is a tool. How you use it is up to you. Although some tools are better for certain things than others. Stay safe out there.
Absoulutely great fixies. Nice video. 🙂🙂
Thank you!
Very cool!
Some great ones right there. My fixed blade lately has been the hogue Ritter fixed blade. Works for what I use it for.
Very nice 👌🏻

I was going to grab a RAM but opted for the trail bacon instead (5.25” blade)

The Tops Cut 4.0 changed the way I carry smaller fixed blades. I like the cross draw position...

I like something with a good stopper from whenever you have to stab your fingers don’t get cut off
Me too. Most of my blades have this feature.

I almost always reprofile to 20 dps on fixed blades and that's what I did on the toor.
Of the 5, how would you rate them from favourite to 5th?
That's a tough one as I like them all for different reasons but if I had to pick one I like the most it's the carothers but just by a little compared to the others.
You try any spartan blades ?
I haven't messed with them much honestly. I do want to get a spartan harsey tt though.
great knives, but I find it very strange that none of the 5 has any signs of use. My Winkler Knives look completely different, with scratches, etc
When you own many knives the wear gets spread out. That said most of the blades I use don't have coated blades and are made of steel that doesn't show wear easily. Thanks for watching.
How much does the DEK-1 cost?
Depends what materials you get. For the example shown it was about 380 I want to say.
All the blades look similar
Darter didn’t make the list?
Darter resides on the plate carrier but would be an excellent option as well. In fact I did edc that one for a while and it was awesome.
It doesnt look like you used any of those.
I cleaned them up for the video. You can see edge damage in the busse if you look close. They get used but I carry so many knives that none of them get a ton of individual use.
