I sang Isantim in 1996 with my dormitory choir at our Interhouse Music Competition at FGGC Owerri. It was so sweet to hear this again. Its amazing that it was done via Zoom by singers all pitching in from different locations. The harmony is flawless!❤
Learnt and practiced this song as a member of the school choir at FGGC Benin in 1986. One of the houses had presented it in a choral competition at the School Arts Festival with a dance performance by my friend and classmate Andem Duke and Joyce Ntuk ( now deceased). I understand Isantim means crocodile.
I've been looking for this song ever since I came across it on Wofai's page. I'm Igbo and I don't understand the language, but it's as if this song is speaking to me. Beautiful melody❤❤❤
I sang Isantim in 2001 with my church choir (Holy aTrinity Catholic Parish World Bank New Owerri, Owerri) for a cultural night program that we had then. I was partly raised in Calabar , I schooled at FGGC Calabar, and a bit familiar with some Efik folklore songs like “Ekpri Ekanem”.
A good tutorial for kids both at home and diaspora on our culture, and a reminder of what we could be losing in a few years unless we take concrete steps to ensure its preservation
Parol has a nice voice in singing, people walk, goats also walk; see hippotamus has come into the land and other animals start racing, hippotamus is a bad animal, etc. This is the little I can get there.
This is Efik Ibibio of Calabar in Cross River state cultural heritage. Your friends who are Ibibio are from Uyo in Akwa Ibom state and there is nothing like Efik/Ibibio tribe of Igbo/Ibibio tribe which would be more appropraite since Igbo Ibibio are related and are cousins from Cameroon. There is Efik, Igbo, Ibibio, Hausa, Yoruba tribes etc. Please learn the different tribes of Nigeria and that should not be hard to do and encourage your Ibibio friends from Akwa ibom state who are known culture thieves. Ibibio and Efik people are not related.
Thanks for sharing! Really beautiful! Took me back to my secondary school days at FGGC Benin City between 40 and 34 years ago. Lovely memories from our choral groups and arts festivals. Anyone who went to some Unity schools in Nigeria can relate and also know this song. I sang it then and sometimes sing/hum it even though I don't know the meaning. We have such rich and beautiful mix of cultures in this blessed Nigeria. It would be great if we can have the lyrics of the song and the meaning. Thank you!

Why are men wearing the mpkat etim and doing the supposedly female dance moves? Have you guys LGBTfied my culture? There better be a good answer by the time I come back
@@nenebenneth6556 You're lucky I'm not back yet. When I do, all that nonsense will stop. In my culture, men are men and women are women. Our dances and arts are binary. But you foolish young people infected and remote-controlled by neo-colonial doctrines want to change everything to suit the whiteman's "sameness" narrative. You better not be one of the idi0ts directly involved in this. Pray hard that you're not
@@nenebenneth6556 I saw many videos online of men dancing Abang and ekombi (predominantly female dances). I cannot stand it but I'm yet to know who exactly is making those decisions. If you findout anything, let me know
