prince on EVERY instrument on this album, except horns. genius. wb didn't want him to come out with a jazz album, so he made up 'madhouse' and it took him only 5 days to record the whole thing according to his engineer at the time, chuck zwicky. thank you prince.
His drumming is all "feel" and not a set pattern. It's so funky yet warm and worldly. He just killed drums during this period. It' was his best drumming period.
Prince plays more than drums, he played EVERYTHING on this record except for the horn, he even wrote all the tracks. Genius. I play this album for my hard core jazz fans and they cant believe its Prince. Thanks for posting this extremely rare record!
Ramon Gooden Morris Day never played on a Madhouse track. Sheila E played on 3 tracks on the 2nd album but the 1st album is all Prince (on everything except sax and flute).
so, when Prince wasn't writing producing and performing music he was writing, producing and performing music. R.I.P. Prince Rogers Nelson. I think I can get through another day now.
I used to play this album nonstop...it made me feel so sophisticated and smooth even though I was only 17 and had just graduated high school. To this day I never knew anyone who had any idea this album even existed. This song was my favorite, I been using the number 8 as a password because of this.
At least 52k people know their shit. Still to this day every time the bass solo comes in, I am cleansed. It digs so deep into my soul it actually hurts, as it should. #nocolourlikepurple #RestInPrince
I love this! Prince was so talented and I'm not suprised because his parents were jazz artists. Also being a jazz lover, its sad the radio never promoted him as a jazz artist. This song once again proves he could do anything perfectly. 💜💜
As the rumor goes, he purposely didn't attach his name to this project because he said he wanted people to like the music because they (authentically) like it... not because it was him. Prince was a genius.
This hardcore Prince fan bought this album when she was seventeen and I absolutely love this song! Prince was total genius of music there wasn't anything he couldn't do, man was amazing! R.I.P. genius!
back in the day when i was a teen, david sanborn used to host a radio show that came on sunday mornings in chicago on the station that eventually became wnua. one morning he played this. i was a huge prince fan at the time but had no idea this was prince. it led to me delving deeper into jazz and jazz fusion. then i found out it was prince on everything but the sax and i was like, "yup, i'm not surprised".
I admit I didn't like the other tracks on this album, but ONE may be one of the best instrumental numbers I've ever heard. Incredible drum play. Can listen to it over and over. Thanks for uploading!
It would be easy to guess that with Madhouse and his love of jazz, would come the Vault:Old Friends for Sale and The Rainbow Children. I love Prince's jazz music too. He was so brilliant at covering all the genres, talented beyond words!
I remember Madhouse, However, I had never heard 'Twelve' until today. This man was a wealth of Music: Jimi, Mick, James, and Miles all rolled into 1 man
What an incredible artist...finding new treasures I never knew about Prince. Huge regret I never took time to see him LIVE when I could have so many times. Genius - what a gift to us, so many gifts ....he's left behind.
Thanks for posting this. Absolutely LOVED all 3 of these albums. Seems like almost knows about them and even fewer know that its Prince doing everything but the horns.
very rare. a hidden treasure to the general public. they would never believe it...this is prince sorta jazz trip. fool alot of people with this madhouse
@@TheSteveSteele Mostly different kind of keyboards (synth, organ, piano, e-piano, keyboard bass etc) and guitars (12 string, electric, accoustic, bass) :-) But impressive none the less. He even played Harp himself on one album.
I bought this album off of hearing 6 on the radio. I knew it was Prince from the rip. This was also the first album I owned with the actual Paisley Park label on the vinyl
Benji Reid you are not alone... This my first experience with any of the madhouse collection. Very Nice & to say he playing everything except the horns. WOW I hope the estate will release the madhouse collection again
Thank you so much for posting this!! I had both albums 8 & 16 along with some 12" remixes on vinyl (I have nothing to play those on now). Prince was more amazing than most people can even fathom with all his secret or 'side projects' like this, mazarati, the family etc...
I no longer have the records, iive got the record player,,,feeling blessed all my childhood music keeps appearing here ,puts my thought of. My days of physical freedom and dancing to the music kept me alive,,it reduce my pain a bit...thank u for sharing
Seriously great album no doubt but Prince produced it and Sheila isn't even on it. I love her don't get me wrong and she played on the second Madhouse album but credit where it's due Prince produced them both.
Just passing thur💯 Rick James and prince. was never friends rick james was mad at prince for Vanity 6 because Rick James have the Mary Jane Girls and Prince was beating Rick James on stage every night Rick James always hated Prince also for making this album fun fact
Actually he plays all drums not drum machine on this album. On the other madhouse album he plays drums on some cuts and Sheila E plays on the others. He did utilize drum machines but his first four albums it was primarily drums. Just saying

You're right! He was a man of many talents. As a drummer. I emphasised that he's on drums. Thanks for filling the rest in.
+Mark G YEPPIR..Prince and Eric Leeds
Mark G I've always felt that Prince's jazz compositions were slightly underappreciated. Miles Davis even endorsed Prince at one point.
I wonder? Sometimes its Prince and Sometimes it's actually Morris day. IJS! lol This one does sound like Prince though, I think.
Ramon Gooden Morris Day never played on a Madhouse track. Sheila E played on 3 tracks on the 2nd album but the 1st album is all Prince (on everything except sax and flute).

This is my favorite Madhouse track.
There's never been nor ever will be any musician who is all that Prince was.
At least 52k people know their shit. Still to this day every time the bass solo comes in, I am cleansed. It digs so deep into my soul it actually hurts, as it should. #nocolourlikepurple #RestInPrince
same, this bass solo is among his best work. i always come back to listen to it upon random. he being only 29, with that kind of finesse. is beyond.

Prince was a genius.
Mother Nelson acknowledged,, Good ☺️ 🎵🎶

Laid back track
Give Prince a lot of credit because jazz don't get the air play like it should.
Fantastic song 4:02 PM in Milwaukee''s today ❤ Isfree.

Eric Leeds on sax and the Purple one on everything else.

Some of His,Very Best Drumming and Bass
This dude here. Straight fire on all these instruments. Pure fusion. Wish he'd brought Miles in on this one.

Favourite track in the entire Madhouse Series…. Resonate in Perfection Prince Rogers Nelson.
can listen to it a hundred times over and never tire
how can he be gone? need more of this. 😢💜🎶That bass line is kicking. and eric- wow.
not a lot of people know that this is a Prince Band and recorded in Paris France.
it's funky with a slight James Brown drum lick. Nasty.
What a gem! 💜
Thanks for posting this. Absolutely LOVED all 3 of these albums. Seems like almost knows about them and even fewer know that its Prince doing everything but the horns.

I used to believe my favorite drummer was John Lewis. Turns out it was Prince.
Made in Pittsburgh. RIP Genius!

And MJ 😂😂😂😂
Music Producer: Sheila E. Serieusly great album!
Seriously great album no doubt but Prince produced it and Sheila isn't even on it. I love her don't get me wrong and she played on the second Madhouse album but credit where it's due Prince produced them both.
