I really thought you needed more safety sand when you were replacing those shock saturated shockabsorbers, but you managed it anyway! Awesome job again!
There is a gasket on the front driveshaft because the U joint is fed gear oil from the transmission. Note there's a hole drilled thru the center of the bolt that holds the flange to the output shaft, it has a felt plug inside to limit that oil flow. (This is why 404s lose a little oil down the torque tubes, by design.) If you run stock length shocks and have 12 driveshaft flange bolt holes put a bolt in every hole! With longer shocks you can leave the two bolts out that the U joint ears could hit at full droop to increase the U joint's angle of operation.
Great video! I learned stuff that might actually help me someday. Yes, my 404 is still napping out in the woods a couple of hours away from me... Maybe this year will be the year?
Yea the chicken leg shack also has disappearing gearbox oil. Thing is the boot nor the axles leak. My guess is its leaking into the diff as well slowly filling up all parts below the gearbox.
Your welding table is much better than my plast sawhorses. They both melted. 😢
Great job guys 🤙Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱 🇱🇺

"Only leaks when you drive." 😂❤
If you are worried about alignment, drink a few beers, and everything will look straight. 😊
Tom and Odin long time no hear from you guys, hope winter is gone and sunshine is on the way you to stay safe
We hope to pick it back up with more content coming soon. The weather has been terrible, so not a lot was going on.

When you get done rebuilding (or feel like doing something else), we'll give the old chicken leg shack some much needed tlc.

Could you plese tal what part number for new shock obserbers?
Mercedes nr: A4043230100
NSN: 2540-12-136-1070
for standard shock, on the rear of the radio box we put heavy duty and those are after marketed.
Where is gearbox rebuild video?
Sorry for the confusion but we did a gearbox replacement, not a rebuild.
