Turning back the pages of film music history, there are few instances where you can listen to an entire score and smile with the knowledge that you’ve just experienced a true masterpiece. This is very difficult to achieve, of course. The score has to carry the story to the point where the two seem inseparable. It’s hard to imagine 1986’s The Mission without Ennio Morricone’s score.

One of the best music (not only in a movie) works of the modern time. It feels so above many other works I still love.
I appreciate this video a lot, this score always needs to be acknowledge more.

The Grand Maestro sits securely in the Pantheon of the Masters and I've a feeling he has applauded your fine effort and tribute on more than one occasion. For me, perhaps The Maestro's greatest achievement was his God given Gift to be able to meld music so beautiful that the heart cannot help but be moved while the images it accompanies so often presented the truth of humanity's inhumanity, pettiness, vindictiveness and sadness. This gift, this art of music and cinema gave to me a beauty so profound it could reduce that most horrible to a pathos reserved only for a creature who possess's the ability to be so much more and yet too often settles for the basest and cruelest of endeavors.

Ennio Morricone is definitely one of the most influent composer of this century and not only about film music , he also has composed really a huge amount of music touching all kind of genres from Italian pop mucin to jazz orchestration ( see Baker ), able to write also real contemporary music and innovative orchestration , analytically we can find in his composition many news never heard before in MUSIC !! We are so lucky to live in his same period to one of the best composer of history of music ,nothing to envy to any other composers in history.❤

Morricone is gold. Music is a dimension that can turn average work into art. Like Jeff van Dyck soundtracks in the TotalWar series did.

Wonderful video desribing Morricone's masterpiece, I'm a bit sad, though, that everybody forgets about the beautiful Brothers theme from this film, it has such a simple, but such a powerful melody.

I saw the film a few years back and will have to watch it again. Funny that I've been looking for that song for years and yet it was right infront of me the whole time thank you for your hard work. I too made that mistake focusing more on the story than the actual movie itself

When De Niro lies down dying he certainly doesn't look at J. Irons expecting to be saved through some kind of divine intervention, he has already gave up all expectations for own redemption and life, he fights only for the Guaranies the children and the tribe, and out of respect for the priest he admires and who gave him a chance to dedicate himself for a higher purpose This last look is more like a metaphore of their two methods, completely opposites but searching for the same result, and finally dying together in the same way and without any chance of victory, one using weapons and killing and the second one walking like a lamb giving himself to the invader but still facing the same ultimate faith. This look was the last eventual illusion remaing for De Niro (could the father be right?) and that finally faded too.

Maybe you like it, I am sure you will understand the complicated plot and enjoy the grand messages. To me the levels of swordsmanship, and the political motivation out of each party's scopes, are very teaching. Making you understand your falsely percieved biggest enemies just by understanding their scopes. Also the movie itself is pure art with it's soundtrack, colors and battles. Best chinese movie I know of, and also a traditional aspect with the "weird wuxia flying".

On a historical perspective and with the benefits of hindsight, the tribe should have compiled with Portugal as the 'imaginary boundary lines' in that area would change. But this is something they could not have foreseen.
